It struggled to not be annoyed with itself but it knew to listen. Winterpaw looked at Seabreeze. Scenting seemed simple enough, and it managed to spot something using it;. It couldn't recognise it but it had spotted something (13). Dropping into the crouch more simply now (18) it padded towards whatever it scented. Downwind, as its mentor had said. The walking wasn't wonky at all this time (20), in fact it was almost perfect. It saw it. The tiny creature. It tried its best to leap but wasn't ready, a paw out of place made it feel unbalanced (5). Winterpaw pa(w)used before the thing spotted it, and the weak thing looked startled and tried to run. Shoot.

But with some odd elegance(?) or pure luck, it locked its eyes to where it was trying to run and made a leap for there instead.

And as if by magical powers of StarClan, it realised the creature was under its paws. (20!) It sighed as the body was limp and it realised: it was so far behind but it had done it. DONE IT. FINALLY. It stood there for a moment, still puzzled, and then picked up the prey and walked over to Seabreeze. Smiling, for once.

"Very good, why don't you bury it somewhere while we move onto the next section of your training?" The tom motioned to some of the nearby brush that Winterpaw could hide the catch under for the time being but otherwise didn't move until the apprentice had done so, "You're self-assigned work for this evening is to practice your stalking, at least twice around the perimeter of the clearing, and tomorrow I'll take you out for some more hunting." The former lionheart then focused onto the next section of the lecture.

"Fighting, tell me what you know of it?" Surely, given how old the apprentice was, he had some experience with fighting. The Riverclan Drive out, the Thunderclan raids, more... Surely, even without proper lessons, the apprentice had picked up some natural know-how in those experiences.

Winterpaw scrabbled at the dirt and bush, placing the prey inside. It was so proud still. It nodded at Seabreeze, right, practice the jumping prey thing. Fighting. Just the thought made it feel icky with thoughts of that... thing, nono, it would not think of that place again. Nightmares. And the WindClan fight. Urgh. Winterpaw shuddered, it didn't even know how to fight then, why did it try?

"Nothing. I'm- I'm sorry. I just- My mentors did nothing. Before you."
