PumpkinToes watched as Lightningstrike began following a scent, hmm what will we find, a vole? Squirrel? Water Squirrel? amused she turned away and began creeping along the trees sticking close to the ground as she kept her ears perked for sounds...
〔D10=6〕
A small flutter catches her ears, a Robin at the base of the tree several tail lengths away, she pauses dropping to a hunting crouch and wiggles her self into position slowly.
〔D20=14+0〕
She leaps, catching the bird by its wing as she bats it's flapping wing a few times before biting down on its small head, purring she circles around to find Lightningstrike burying a mouse, nodding to the shecats question she buries it next to their prey. "good! Plentiful prey, must be some Dandelions seeds near for goodluck yes?" she purrs, satisfied at the good hunting.
Lightningstrike nodded. "Yeah, sometimes there are rabbits here eating the dandelions. Don't think there are any today, though." She flicked her tail as she saw the mouse. "Now we're halfway finished! Just need one more each. This will be easy!" Ohhh Lightning. You jinxed it. She never learns, does she? She trotted off to go find more prey. Sure enough, there was a frog hopping along. She quickly dropped into a crouch, but the frog had already seen her and was hopping away. She tried to grab it, but it slipped out of her jaws and disappeared into the undergrowth. She sat back on her haunches and sighed, the frog was probably going to go tell all the prey around here to run. She walked over to Pumpkintoes. "You having any better luck?"
@Wolfpawz
PumpkinToes nodded as Lightningstrike mentioned rabbits, she could almost smell the yummy scent...
〔D10=3〕
oh! Quickly she ducked under a bush the scent stronger there as it led on, quickly she scrambled out from under it leaves still in her fur as she found Lightningstrike nearby, "shh, quickly I've caught the scent of a rabbit and more importantly possible Dandelions! Come come" breathlessly she circled the shecat and began nudging her with her head enthusiastically.
Lightningstrike was a bit surprised that a rabbit would be here, but it would definitely help get them out of trouble. She followed Pumpkintoes to the bush that she had been under. "If I go round that way, you can chase the rabbit towards me, and then we have a greater chance of catching it because rabbits are very stupid," she whispered. This was something she had seen the older warriors do, and it didn't look very hard. She cautiously got into position, waiting for the rabbit to come running at her.
@Wolfpawz
PumpkinToes nodded, leaving Lightningstrike under the bush as she creeped around, tiptoeing forward she gave the air a sniff, luckily the breeze was blowing across, both the cats scents drifting away.
There next to a log was what she was after, a small grey rabbit sniffing about, gently she snuck forward, trying to find the right bush before she held her breath it's easy just make it go forward right?
She jumped forward!
〔D20=15〕
She leaped and ran to chase the rabbit catching its leg by a claw before it went tumbling into the bush.
Lightningstrike breathed in and out, settling her mind into a state of hyperfocus. She had one shot at this. She could not mess it up. The rabbit burst through the bush, and she was ready. She leaped at it, managing to get ahold of it with both paws. She held it still, and quickly and cleanly broke its neck. She picked up her kill and went to Pumpkintoes. "That was some good teamwork, right there! Rookfire's going to be less annoyed with us now. We just need one more piece of prey. We both caught the rabbit, so if one of us can't find another thing we can take the credit for it."
@Wolfpawz
PumpkinToes nodded at hearing Lightningstrike, although she didn't quite catch the words her nose to the ground around the log intently sniffing at its base, searching for something. "Rats" she cursed "the rabbit ate all of the Dandelions before we got here!".
Her tailed puffed and lashed, angry at the loss. we must hunt all the rabbits from now on, we must preserve our dandelion patches. with a determined look PumpkinToes began sniffing around, set on catching another foul rabbit.
Lightningstrike nodded, satisfied that Pumpkintoes was doing her job. She continued scenting the air, and caught the scent if a pidgeon. It was in a tree, but Lightningstrike could totally climb trees. Thunderclan could do it, and they were all mousebrains, so it couldn't be that hard. She waggled her hindquarters, and then jumped at a low hanging branch. By some miracle from starclan, she caught the branch with her forepaws and pulled herself up. Now she just had to reach the pidgeon. She looked down from the tree, checking on Pumpkintoes. Wait, this was actually pretty high up.
@Wolfpawz
PumpkinToes kept sniffing, small scents but none of the cursed rabbits, she looked up at hearing small little scratches in the tree above her, the rabbits have learned to climb! You will not evad me! she was only slightly annoyed to find no rabbit in the tree but Lightningstrike peering down at her.
She opened her mouth to say something but caught sight of the pigeon that lay a few branch lengths away, nodding towards the shecat, PumpkinToes lowered herself into a crouch and creeped away from the tree, careful to avoid alerting the bird she sniffed under bushes and over roots but couldn't find anything much less rabbits.
Despite the streamers of sunlight, it was muddy. Perhaps it would always be muddy, maybe the dirt and the ache would never leave her. Mudslide ducked away from honey colored rays, weaving through shadow, paws quiet through calculated practice in her stealth.
Large ears caught on sunlight as she stepped from the limited shade, addressing the two cats with a look. She didn't say anything though, she knew that Silentpaw of all cats should know what he's doing, and that Wildstorm had ears.
With that second of confirmation, Mudslide busied herself with work, multicoloured paws trotting along the muddy woods, tail high to keep from tracking mud. Sooner or later, icy eyes caught onto a bright yellow flower, possibly more saturated than marigolds, even if they lacked their gradient hues. Her striped tail twitched as her gaze fastened onto the stubby plants. Coltsfoot. She mentally prepared herself for their taste (no herb tasted good, ever).
[mudslide rolled a 5! fumble...]
Her tongue was littered with yellow petals, bringing them up in a relentless spring. Plus, they tasted absolutely horrible. Mudslide silently spat out the herb, seeing now that she'd pulled up by the flower instead of the stem which was rather thick. Mudslide suppressed a growl. This may prove to be difficult...
Regardless, her jaws aimed for another stalk, with no more confidence than her last pull. If anything she was more cautious.
[mudslide rolled a 6! fumble...]
Wow, again.
Mudslide was starting to get sick of her chances and whomever may be laughing at her up there. The oriental slowly edged away from the plant and beelined for some burnet. Their red color was striking along with their tall stems and pointed leaves. Hopefully they'd be easier to gather.
[mudslide rolled a 16! slightly damaged...]
Even if the herb didn't release without some scruffing, Mudslide had got it.
[+1 burnet]
Given she wasn't fortunate with coltsfoot, she figured she just stuck to what she knew what get her good results. Thus, she aimed for another one of the flowering plants.
Wildstorm trotted in behind Mudslide, flicking her ear as the patrol-leader wordlessly set to work. Good. She liked it that way. It looked like Mudslide had a good gathering of burnet, so she decided to set out for the chervil and coltsfoot.
-d20: rolled 16-
She found a little bush of chervil, but Sleepysunrise asked for it to be uprooted. So Wildstorm carefully dug around the plant to bring it up along with the roots. This kind of delicate work was not her strong suite, but she managed to make it work. She was a warrior after all, sometimes this kind of work was necessary. Even if she'd prefer fighting.
+2 uprooted chervil
Good, that was done. It looked like Mudslide was having some difficulty with the coltsfoot, so she figured she'd look for that next.
-d20: rolled 20!-
Jackpot! She found a nice little gathering of some of the flowers Sleepysunrise had showed her. She chewed a few of the stalks at the base and gathered the flowers scooping them up along with her chervil. There. Now she had her bundle, all that was left was Silentpaw's. And if Mudslide wanted more too of course.
