Caught off guard by Ravenpaw's sudden advance, Sunheart narrowly dodged the she-cat. However, he clearly didn't do so well enough that he staggered. Catching his footing, he aimed a heavy paw at the she-cat, heading for her hind-legs as if to knock her over.

Her plan kinda worked. She didn't knock him down like she wanted, but that was fine. She kicked out her targeted hindleg to try and block the attack, though it still took her off balance a little. Staggering slightly, Ravenpaw quickly rallied, turning to lunge at the lower part of one of Sunheart's forelegs.

Eyes flashing with brief triumph as Ravenpaw slightly staggered, the deputy immediately aimed for her flank- however, she recovered quicker than expected, knocking his front leg out from under him as he leapt and causing him to stumble forward.

With a grunt, Sunheart bit back a hiss as his paw caught in a root, twisting it awkwardly. Pulling it back, he signaled with his tail for Ravenpaw to halt with any advancements as he examined his paw for a moment. "I think it's safe to say you passed." He mewed, a teasing twinkle covering the slight pain in his gaze. "Let's move on. Hunting first. I want you both to bring back at least two pieces of prey." Sunheart instructed as he sat now, carefully keeping weight off his injured paw.

Rae first smirked in her victory but then her heart sank when Sunheart caught his foot. He didn't have to signal her to stop, she was already lunging forward to check his foot. "A-Are you okay?!" She looked up at him, her eyes wide with concern. And guilt. She hadn't meant for him to actually get hurt! She just wanted to prove her strength! She took a few steps back when he instructed them both to hunt, flicking a white ear in acknowledgement. Though the guilt still showed in her eyes. She dipped her heard wordlessly, and turned, glancing at her twin briefly before heading out.

Two pieces of prey each eh? Sunheart had said they'd be tested in land and water hunting. So...what if she just beat 'im to it? Rae puffed herself up, determined now to prove herself. This was Rain's area of expertise, and she still managed to fight well. So Rae needed to do the same. Show the same growth. And make it up to Sunheart somehow... Her decision made, Rae first turned her attention to the land prey. Rae lowered herself into a crouch, tasting the air in search of prey.

Nothing here. Drat! With a hiss of frustration, she moved on to another area.

Rae froze, then immediately lowered herself. Squirrel! Cautiously, she moved forward. Her sights soon set upon her target... *snap!* Oh no. For a brief moment, Ravenpaw's eyes and the squirrel's met, and even though she lunged forward it took the squirrel all of two heartbeats to beeline up the nearest tree. Tail lashing, Rae spat with frustration. I'm sure Rainpaw's having a better time than this! She tried to calm herself down, she had to get it together! She'd still need to find and hunt 2 pieces of land prey and at least one fish! Slinking off to another area, Ravenpaw opened her mouth to taste the air and try again.

Finally! Ravenpaw lowered herself, spotting not one but two water voles. She checked her paws and then plotted her route. Ensuring this time, no mistakes. If I land juuuust right... The two water voles had their backs to her, and were standing closer together. Busy looking for food, and unaware that they were soon about to become dinner. The irony. Rae crept forward slowly...slowly...until...BAM! She pounced on her quarry, landing with one paw on each target. Ravenpaw quickly dispatched with a sharp, well-aimed bite to their necks, silencing their shrill cries quickly. And bonus: they were near the water. This is literally perfect! Chuckling softly at her good fortune, Ravenpaw quickly buried her catches not far from her, and looked for a good spot near the river to fish. She found an area where she didn't cast a shadow, and waited.

There! As soon as she spotted it, Ravenpaw's paw lashed out with a snap. Sending the fish flying towards the bank near where she sat. It wasn't big, but it would do. She quickly killed it and set it behind her. Turning her gaze back to the water. Just one more...

Stars...this is why she hated fishing. Eating fish? Wonderful. Fishing? Terrible. Would not recommend.

Great StarClan Almighty! Finally another shadow! Again, not a big river trout, but enough. Ravenpaw promptly shot a paw out, once more scooping the fish out and flopping it to the shore. She quickly killed it, then picked up both her fish and returned to where she buried her water voles. Setting her fish down, Ravenpaw unburied her voles and lifted them by their tails, then picked her fish by grabbing firmly onto the bases of their tails. Trotting happily back to where she left Rainpaw and Sunheart. Surely this will surprise both of them!

Rainpaw winced visibly when Sunheart hurt his paw, leaping to her own in case any kind of aid was needed. But he seemed alright. Rae on the other paw? She seemed traumatized. Rainpaw tried to cast a comforting glance at her twin, but it wasn't received. She heaved a sigh, knowing full well that Rae was going to go into her "gotta prove myself" mode to try and make things up to Sunheart. Stars willing she wouldn't hurt herself in the process. She looked back at Sunheart and dipped her head before going off, opposite to where her sister went. She didn't want them to accidentally bump into each other, or worse accidentally hunt each other's prey! As it was, she still needed to find the time to take Ravenpaw aside and talking to her about Riftpaw... Not now Rain! The black-and-white she-cat shook her head to clear it. Got to focus!

It didn't take long for Rainpaw to find a scent. She lowered herself into her hunter's stance, confidently and smoothly moving forward. Rabbit! It seems a rabbit wandered into the more wooded area of their territory for their burrow. This one looked like it woke up from leaf-bare relatively recently. But it's since eaten well. Rainpaw smiled to herself, this would do nicely! She knew rabbits would see her before anything else, so as soon as she was close enough she lunged forward, claws extended, and made quick work of her target. Rainpaw walked a little ways and buried her catch for later, continuing her hunt.

Rainpaw tasted the air, ears perking happily. Water shrew! She stalked forward, spotting her target close to the riverbank. Checking her position, Rainpaw carefully moved forward until she was a comfortable distance. Then, she shifted her weight and pounced. Landing squarely on her prey. Rainpaw killed the shrew quickly, sending a silent prayer to StarClan. She looked up at the river, flicking her ear with thought before shrugging. Might as well. She quickly buried her shrew, before finding a good fishing spot. Eyes narrowed in focus as she waited...

There! Quick and sharp, Rainpaw darted a paw out and scooped up her fish, catching it expertly, the muscles in her jaws tightly holding onto her fish as it flayed. This one was big! She set it down but didn't let it go until she secured it with her claws, then delivered the killing blow. Turning back to the water.

A more...normal-sized shadow drifted by and Rainpaw quickly took advantage. Shooting her claw out and scooping the fish out of the water. She caught this one in her jaws too, taking a slap to the face from it's tail fin in the process but not letting it go. She repeated the process with this fish, ensuring it didn't escape. She waited a little longer, but nothing else seemed to be coming. Shrugging she slung the big fish over her back and carried her water shrew and the other fish back to her rabbit. She struggled at first to pick the three of them up, but somehow managed. Returning to where she had left Sunheart and Rae. She was already waiting for Rae to return when her twin showed up, and it looked like they had the same idea. Rainpaw smiled, but her smile soon fell when she saw the look of disappointment on her sister's face.

Rainpaw sighed, realizing that Rae probably had hoped that her catches would outshine Rain's. But...this wasn't a competition. Rainpaw blinked slowly at Rae, hoping to convey a congratulations or something but her twin only turned her gaze away sharply. Deflated, Rainpaw turned her gaze, searching for Sunheart. Who no doubt had followed them to supervise.
