Pondlily flashed Cuckookit a smile whenever he complimented her. ''Thank you, Cuckookit. That's sweet of you,'' she purred, leaning down to touch her nose to the kit's ear. She watched as Mushroomkit, Houndpa--

Houndpaw?!

Pondlily's eyes narrowed. If she recalled correctly, the event was for kits. Houndpaw was an apprentice, not a kit. Might as well let him participate, though, otherwise Dawnstar might have her tail. So, the warrior didn't say anything. Instead, she called out to the Clan again.

''Kits! This is your last chance to gather if you want to participate in the race!''

Mushroomkit frowned, her light mood falling ever so slightly as she watched Pondlily greet the other kit before Mushroomkit and then completely ignore her very important question. Dovekit’s important question. Why was it that so many cats ignored Dovekit even when Mushroomkit speaks for her. With her floppy ears flattening against her head and the narrowing of her heterochromia eyes, Mushroomkit called to the warrior. “Pondlily! Pond! Dovekit asked a question! Don’t ignore her!”

''Nope, there'll be no injuries here,'' Pondlily responded to the kit. ''Sorry, Mushroomkit. Didn't mean to ignore Dovekit.'' There wasn't a Dovekit at Mushroomkit's side. Pondlily knew that. But Mushroomkit didn't, and Pondlily didn't want to upset her.
