Irisfrost side-stepped to escape the trajectory of Breezepaw's swing. Her muscles tensed briefly before she leapt at him, eyes darting around so he couldn't see from them where she was aiming. She had gone for his shoulder, as it was pretty much directly in front of her. Hopefully it would either knock him over or send them into a roll, both of which were situations where she would be dominant.

Her leap hadn't landed, but Irisfrost didn't let herself be distracted by disappointment. It was probably better anyway; if she had managed to pin him the fight would be short. She only had a brief moment to muse on that, though, as Breezepaw pounced on top of her. She felt his weight on top of her, but he was not yet heavy enough to be able to slam her to the ground. In another fight, she might have rolled onto her back to squash him, but she didn't want to do that to her apprentice. Instead she reared onto her back legs to try to dislodge him- without claws, he would slide right off.
Helping he jumped off feeling his claws sliding before he fell. Thinking fast he ducked under her chest and swiped his (paw) along her chest and belly, before jumping back and sitting down, panting. He REALLY wanted water.
@kittycatburmise he’s been in 2 events now I wonder if that counts for something.
As she felt Breezepaw slip down her back, Irisfrost made to turn and attack him. But then her apprentice was under her chest, faster than she thought he'd move, swiping a paw along her chest and belly. If this was a real fight, she'd have a nasty wound. Before she could counter-attack, he jumped back, panting as he sat down. Clearly, he wanted the fight to end. She let him rest.
"Good job," Irisfrost praised. "Especially with that last move. You think fast." Breezepaw's skills had exceeded her expectations; with practice, she was sure he would be an exceptional fighter. "Come on, let's go back to camp. I bet you're tired." With that, she turned and started to lead the way home.
Irisfrost was quickly learning she could never have a rest day with Breezepaw around. Not that she minded; it was good to go out and do something, to know that she was helping the clan- maybe not by catching prey (although that was the result of some training sessions) but by shaping a cat who would be able to hunt and fight and serve the clan.
A small smile played on her face when Breezepaw came to her, wanting to learn hunting and tracking. "I'll teach you how to hunt, and if we have time we'll move on to tracking." Not that Irisfrost doubted they would; Breezepaw had caught prey before, they weren't starting from scratch. In fact, the hunting lesson would likely be over quickly.
Irisfrost led her apprentice into the territory before turning around to face him. "Show me your hunter's crouch," she said. With her last apprentice she had shown him the correct position, but Breezepaw knew how to do this, even if his crouch or stalk needed improvement.

Irisfrost watched as Breezepaw shifted into a hunter's crouch. She could see no obvious flaws, but then the crouch was the easier part. Once he was moving, maintaining the correct technique would be much harder.
"Good," Irisfrost told him. She then walked to a spot about a tree-length away and pushed some of the snow into a hard, compact pile, about the size of a mouse. Unlike a mouse, it wouldn't run away, but it was a good way for her to assess Breezepaw's technique. "Stalk the snow mound. And remember to keep your weight even, your paws close to your body and your tail straight out behind you." There were lots of mistakes that could ruin a hunt, but those were some of the main ones. Best to remind him of them now so Breezepaw could adjust his position while he was stalking.
@Songtail (It's fine! Also it doesn't matter what time you post since I probably won't reply straight away anyway)

Breezepaw breathed in, and whipped around. He followed the instructions, near perfectly, and leaped at a mouse. It was small, but he had caught his second prey.. he remembered his first. He had given it to Stormstar a week before she died.
