Cloudedpaw sighed as he trudged through camp. He noticed a flash of golden-yellow eyes that he knew all too well. Mantispaw. His heart fluttered as he turned away, fighting the urge to go up to her. She doesn't need me anymore. The young tom blinked back tears, flexing his claws. No need to think about that anymore. It would never happen. Another familiar ginger pelt came into his corner of view, one he knew as Stagleap. Great. Another cat that he simply couldn't avoid interacting with. The gray-furred apprentice made a noise that sounded like a sigh and grunt mixed together before slowly making his way over to the older cat.
Stagleap. He greeted, his expression neutral as he stared into his half-brother's eyes. How might you be today? He asked, doing his best to sound bored, although he was quite intrigued. Stagleap was a cat he cared about, even though he didn't want to admit it. Cloudedpaw shifted awkwardly, his tail flicking ominously. You seem well. He added before the older tom could answer his question. It was just the way things worked. He'd ask a question, then he'd answer his own question, allowing the other cat to add simple details. It was how he kept conversations bland. The apprentice waited for Stagleap to answer his half-question, his deep amber eyes flickering impatiently.

Stagleap watched his half brother turn away from Mantispaw. Ah. Of course. But he didn't mention that. "I'm doing fine, how are you today, young one?" He asked in his rumbling purr. Though he didn't often speak to Cloudedpaw, he did care for the young tom. "I trust you've been well." He added.

Cloudedpaw didn't return the purr that his half-brother's purr. I'm fine. Good. Better. Fine. He mewed, his words clouding together to form different parts of different sentences. I'm not young. He added, narrowing his eyes.

Cloudedpaw let out a huff of frustration. Ten moons isn't that much younger. He muttered, flashing his half-brother a fond but angry look. He thought about Stagleap's statement for a while before replying with a lash of his tail. You're pretty young. He smirked, sticking a cold nose at the warrior's fur.

"I suppose I am still." Stagleap accepts with a laugh. "How has your training been going?" He was enjoying their conversation. "And how are things with.." He trailed off.

Cloudedpaw let out a huff of frustration. I haven't started training. I've asked Bumblestar for a reassignment. He mewed, a hint of anger in his voice. It's not fair! I had Bluemoon, then Raggedear, and now Risingstorm. He sighed, his perplexed feelings easing as he inched closer to Stagleap. Risingstorm's a great cat, he just doesn't have time for me. He breathed, flexing his claws into the freezing cold snow. He shifted uneasily as he met the gaze of the warrior. Weird.
What do you mean? Cloudedpaw narrowed his eyes suspiciously. With who? He glared at the ginger warrior with dark amber hues. With who? He repeated, a growl rumbling in his throat. He'd better not be talking about Mantispaw. No cat was to talk about her like that. He'd protect her, for sure.

Cloudedpaw flexed his claws, the heat of his anger radiating off of him. He knew exactly who his brother was talking about, but he wasn't about to show it. Stagleap. Who the hell are you yowling about? He hissed, doing his best to keep his face from scrunching up with internal pain. Who is 'her'? He grumbled, biting his lip. His tail lashed irritably. He had to work real hard to contain his anger, that was for sure.
