The Moon and the Flea

Moonkit trots through the nursery, one of the feathers that Embershade brought for her clamped proudly in her maw. The rest had been stuffed into her nest for safe keeping, but this one was the prettiest of all!
And she wanted to give it to her bestest friend!! None of the queens or warriors seemed to ever give him special presents, and that made her sad!
Her flea-friend deserved many many gifts!!
So she was going to share hers with him.

Her tail raises straight in the air as soon as she sees her striped flea, and bounds over to him, like a bouncing little moss ball.
This time Moonkit does not crash into him, not wanting other nosey cats to try to steal her friend again. Ugh, friend stealers.
Her whole body wiggles as she tries to show him the feather.
Thing! Have thing, want show!

Fleakit and Rapidkit are having an important conversation. Very important. They're discussing how Fleakit probably could not make a high jump, even though he swears he can. Rapidkit keeps insisting that the little runt will get hurt, which he does not like at all. Fleakit is stubborn though, and keeps persisting. All until Moonkit arrives. Fleakit's ears perk up, his eyes going wide."Woah!! Pretty feather!!"

Moonkit's eyes immediately lock onto Rapidkit the moment she sees him.
Bully! Thief!
Why was flea-friend hanging out with him? He was so mean to the both of them!
She has to fight the pout that threatens to sour the whole thing, and looks back to Fleakit.

For you! she motions.
Her eyes slide back to Rapidkit, expecting him to do something mean. She didn't even know if he could understand her signs, but she half expected him to lash out anyway. Like he always did.
Moonkit pats the ground, insisting he sit for her. She wanted to tuck it into his fur so that no one could steal it while they were playing.

Fleakit hesitates but does as he's asked. He sits in front of the owl-like kitten, his front paws tapping on the dirt excitedly.
Rapidkit just watches them, an odd sense of longing corrupting his mind. He doesn't like being separated from Fleakit. He doesn't exactly understand why, but he knows he doesn't enjoy this feeling.

Moonkit sits on her haunches and then carefully lifts herself up, precariously balancing on her hind paws. She doesn't have to stretch to far up, considering how much smaller Fleakit is in comparison, but she wants her paws to be free for her task....
Mostly to avoid knocking into him when she leans forward.
She carefully tucks the feather into Fleakit's fur, cautious about accidentally poking his ears or skin. It wasn't too dissimilar from weaving them into the nest.... She just.... Had to go slower.
With the feather firmly in place, she leaned back, allowing her front paws to rest on the ground once again. Her tail curled around herself in satisfaction.
Pretty feather, for pretty friend!

Moonkit felt her fur prickle under Rapidkit's baleful glowering. She wanted to rip his stupid eyes out to make him stop looking at her.
He obviously hated her, so why didn't he go away! His hateful presence would hardly keep her from her friend.
He could find someone else to be mean to, so why didn't he just.... Go away?

Fleakit turns to Rapidkit with his usual mischievous grin, his eyes sparkling with delight. "Well? How do I look?" The little runts paws tap on the floor eagerly.
Rapidkit can't help but let out a small little purr of appreciation. A warmth blossoms in his chest, something he has no experience with. Fleakit looks absolutely adorable with the feather, but Rapidkit is far too proud to admit it. He immediately feels embarrassed by his purring, and tries to hide it with a scoff. How dare Fleakit make him feel things he doesn't understand. "... You look.. fine." His ear twitches with faux annoyance.

Moonkit watches Rapidkit, eyes narrowed as she studies his reaction. She is quite displeased when all he can come up with is "fine". Fine??
Flea-friend was not simply "fine"!
She frowns at him, making her displeasure known as she continues to stare him down for a few seconds. Just to really drive home her disappointment with him.
Not just fine! she enthusiastically signed.
Pretty! Lovely! she encouraged.
The colours of the feather contrasted quite nicely with his fur.

Rapidkit immediately picks up on Moonkit disapproving glares and wild gestures. Being put on the spot like this makes the large kitten crumble under pressure. He turns To fleakit with herculean effort, the feline trying his best not to make direct eye contact. With a heavy groan, he gives a more appreciative statement."You look.. cute.. b-but don't read too much into it. You're lucky I tolerate you."
The small runt eyes go wide with a nervous ear flick. He's never been given such a direct compliment like this before. It's weird, but it's making his heart beat faster. Before he can stop it, he starts purring. Oh no! How embarrassing. "Shut.. shut it.. I'm not cute."

Moonkit cannot help but frown at Rapidkit and his scathing words towards Fleakit.
But he admitted to how pretty the flea-friend was, so she didn't chastize him further.
Her tail and ears waggle.
Flea-friend is very cute! she defended. She wouldn't let anyone say anything disparaging to the beige tabby— not even himself!!
She tapped her back paws against the ground.
Wanna scavenge-hunt in the snow! she declared.
Before snow melts and takes fun away.
There was something soothing about uncovering hidden things from a layer of frost.

Fleakits ears flick, a wave of excitement hitting him. He eagerly bats his tail, a big doofy grin etched on his kitten face. All fangs and teeths. "BUG HUNTING!!"

Rapidkit looks absolutely mortified by the sheer mention of bugs. The first emotion he's shown other than distaste and irritation. He goes to back away, before the tiny runt that is Fleakit pounces on him.
