Climbin' The (Tree) Of Success [SHC TRAINING EVENT]

Having had a tree climbing lesson from Flytail before, Cougarpaw easily hauled herself up onto the lowest branch. She dug her claws into the bark, the branch swaying a bit under her weight.

The apprentice leapt up to the next branch, Brackenpaw and Eaglepaw following suit in Cougarpaw's steps. Brackenpaw leapt up onto the lowest branch first, and then Eaglepaw.

Starrypaw glanced back at Owlthroat, listening to the enforcer for a moment before turning away. No advice for ol' Starrypaw. The apprentice latched their claws back into the branch, scaling the tree, with relative ease. A few (more than she'd like to admit) mistakes here and there.


If Starrypaw learned anything, it was that climbing trees wasn't their thing. It was okay, skill wise, but Starrypaw did not understand why the Squirrels did this for fun. Or the animal, for that matter, though they were far smaller than cats.

Starrypaw spotted a branch above them, and they were tempted to jump to get to it, but he knew that was quite the stupid idea. He climbed a bit more before planting their paws on the branch, pulling themselves up. Starrypaw grinned, and looked down at Owlthroat for guidance or feedback.

The tom watched the exercise with a expressionless muzzle. Finally, he picked a tree and followed his mates instructions. Hauling himself up onto the first thick branch with a huff. Looking back down to his mate, he would roll his eyes. "I'm a bit rusty at this, hun. Oh woah is me, I cannot go on." He would dramatically flop onto the branch, but flick his tail in humor. "Oh but I must go on! I cannot let anyone show me up, now can I?"

With a grunt, he continued to climb the tree, making it up two more thick branches before looking down again. "Everyone, just be careful and don't go too high unless your fully comfortable and confident with being that high up."

AH - He'd failed to notice Littleblaze's almost fall - hopefully Briarsplash's encouragement had been enough for him - not that he was terribly high up.

Either way, the other three apprentices were getting involved now, so he made sure to keep eyes on them. Cougarpaw was doing exceptionally well - it was pretty clear that she knew what she was doing. It was good to have someone setting an example. "Good job you three," he commented, as he made his way over to the base of the tree, still keeping an eye on Newtpaw. "Cougarpaw, if you're confident, you can try going getting to the next branch - I take it you've had a lesson before?" The other two seemed confident, but maybe they were just following Cougarpaw's lead. "You two - feel free to start climbing how Briarspalsh demonstrated, but take it slow, okay?" He took a rather serious tone - he wouldn't want them to start falling - he could catch one apprentice at a time, but two at once? "If you're unsure, of anything, let me know. I'm happy to demonstrate."

Newtpaw started up the tree, latching his claws onto the bark. As he reached the first branch, he looked down and shivered. Hiii! He called proudly from in the air. He had gotten to one branch! An accomplishment! He turned around, readying himself to climb to the second branch up.

Muddypaw hoisted herself up onto one of the lower branches, hearing the shout of the enforcer to try other ways to get up. Yea! She'll have to try it next time! However, Muddypaw looked down. Wuh oh.
She gulped, claws imbedded into the bark of the branch. Why did she feel so weird and panicked?! This is just like when everyone on that patrol went in different directions! Augh! She hated this feeling! Her chest tightened, but she tried to look as if nothing was wrong. She didn't want anyone to have to help her down... The issue was, if she was told, she had completely forgotten how to get down.
Muddypaw inched her front claws down the trunk, chest seeming to collapse in on itself by the second. She was no kit! She could do this! Maybe... STARS why did she feel like this?! How could she be a fearless warrior if she got herself stuck in a tree?! Yea, she's gotta be a fearless warrior! Muddypaw inched as far as she could down the trunk. She felt her claws begin to unhook from the bark, and so she launched herself from the tree, landing clumsily, but safely, on the ground. She sat, covered in cold dirt and dead leaves, taking a moment to breath.

Cougarpaw nodded down at Newtbelly. ''Yes, I have; Flytail took me out.''

The young, marbled apprentice hauled herself up onto the next branch, sinking her claws into the bark. Brackenpaw and Eaglepaw followed and jumped up to the one that Cougarpaw had just been on.
