To plant a garden is to dream of tomorrow [p]

- A large dark brown tom with a darker back and lighter underbelly, a missing hind leg -
Wolf is not out as demi yet !! The brown tripod had searched out the medicine cat apprentice and hobbled up to them, a smile on their maw. "Hey hollows!" Wolfhawk purred, laying down across from the younger tom. "Probably thought now that things have settled down we could get a start on yer training," the young medicine cat said. "Could ya tell me what ya already know n maybe we could go from there?"

brown, masked classic tabby w/ low white; titanite eyes
About as normal as any day around here could get was interrupted by something new - the promised lessons with Wolfhawk. So, they were finally getting around to this, huh? Okay. Sure. It only took forever but that's fine. Whatever.
Hollowpaw knows, of course, that a large part of that is the fault of the illness and not his nor Wolfhawk's fault, but putting the blame on the medicine cat sure feels good. Seriously... why is he acting so... chipper? So friendly. It's nauseating.
Starting with what he already knows would be fine. That way he isn't learning something twice. With a twitch of his whiskers the only form of acknowledgement aside from duel colored eyes on the older tom, Hollowpaw shifts his position to be seated now. "Boneset, borage, marigold, poppy, broom, burdock, burnet, catmint, cobweb, coltsfoot, comfrey, elder, goldenrod, honey, juniper, moss, stinging nettle, sunset rose, thyme." He lists. Most of this he's never even had to use in practice, but he knows what they do and what they look like at the very least. "Coneflower, too, I guess."

Wolf is not out as demi yet !! Alright, that was a good amount of herbs that hollows knows, so less teaching for Wolfhawk. The tripod actually didn't know bonset, but he'll ask the medicine cat apprentice after they know the same stuff.
"alright, you know a good amount of stuff, and we'll do a few herbs at a time. First one I want ya to know is Blessed Thistle. They're a ground shrub with red or red-yellow spiderlike flowers n prickled leaves. They can be used to relieve indigestion - whatever the hell that means, spring didn't tell me a lot about what it is they cure for some reason - improving appetite, annndddd.... oh, helping the liver function (dunno what a liver is tho, i know it helps)! They do have a bitter taste however. They can be chewed into a poultice and applied to boils or... abscessses - again, spring didn't elaborate... for some reason - ta help em heal, but the poultice stings, just a warnin for any cats who might complain. when the leaves are used in a poultice, they can reduce swelling for wounds.
To find some blessed thistle, try n look around drier dirt and where sunlight hits, best harvested from newleaf to leaf-fall." Wolfhawk paused for a moment, allowing the tabby to ask any questions they may have before moving on.
"Next one's celandine. For some unknown reason, spring failed to describe this herb to me, but when you crush the petals, you can gently apply it to an eye ta help if a cat has a scratch or somethin stuck in it. It'll help reduce swelling n keep infections away. She warned me the juice from the stem can sting if not prepared properly, so she said to always test a little first ta make sure its not too strong." That was two herbs down. Wolfhawk took another pause to allow Hollows to ask any questions. They were... annoyed to say the least. Sure, spring taught him a whole lot, but she had failed to elaborate on some parts. But the tripod had always had to kind of... make do and wing it.

Honestly, the way Wolfhawk had confirmed Hollowpaw already knew a decent amount of herbs sent a shudder of relief through his bones. He'd been thinking that he knew practically nothing, but listing them out like this and actually having someone confirm his knowledge was gratifying to hear. And only doing a few herbs at a time was probably a good thing, less of a headache for him - how Wolfhawk had taken it all in when Spring infodumped onto him Hollowpaw could not even fathom.
First, the medicine cat told him about Blessed Thistle, a ground shrub with spider-like flowers that are red or yellow-red and have prickly leaves. Relieves indigestion and improves liver function - which Hollowpaw doesn't know what that means and neither does Wolfhawk so, cool, great, awesome - but the more tangible thing it does is improve appetite. Maybe they could have used some Blessed Thistle during the plague to help the cats who couldn't find the strength to eat...
But Wolfhawk is continuing, and Hollowpaw snaps to attention. They're bitter, but they can be chewed into a poultice and applied to boils or abscesses. It stings, though, so warn a cat before hand. Or don't if they're annoying, Hollowpaw adds to himself, like Risingstorm. Reduces swelling when used as a poultice and they can be found in dry sunny areas from new-leaf to leaf-fall.
Next is celandine, which does not have a visual description because Spring was useless, but it does have a medical description. It's used for eye injuries, like if a cat has a scratch on their eye or something stuck in it. It reduces swelling and stops infections, but if it isn't applied properly, it can sting.
"What goes in the poultices for blessed thistle? You said the leaves for reducing swelling, but what about on boils and abscesses? You didn't say if that was the flowers or the leaves." He asks, tail tip flicking absently by his side. He wished they actually had the herbs on hand so he could look at them and put a name to the plant.
