Embercloud smiled and purred, nodding at Midnightpaw. "Excellent! You're a bright young cat so I'm sure you won't have any trouble. But if you have any questions in the future, please don't hesitate to ask me!" She purred, reaching out to touch her nose to Midnightpaw's ear. "Now then, stealth! What do you think the most important aspect of stealth is?" She asked them, swaying her tail against the pine needles underpaw.

"Well I know stealth is like not being able to be spotted. You have to be careful and look around at your surroundings. Stealth is what our clan is. Shadow is like stealth," Midnightpaw says, with a flick of their ear, looking at Embercloud, their head slightly tilted.

Embercloud nodded with a smile. "That's correct! Stealth is a useful skill both for hunting and combat, and ShadowClan in particular is known for stealth. So it's important for us to pay extra care to it while training." She mewed. The black and tortie feline then waved her tail as she rose to her paws. "Now then, I have already seen you hunt, which is a part of stealth as I just mentioned. So now I want to see if you can sneak up on me." She meowed, giving Midnightpaw an encouraging smile.

"I'm going to turn around. You will use what you've learned already to try and successfully pounce on me, okay?" Once they acknowledged that they understood, Embercloud would turn her back to Midnightpaw and walk forward, pretending to sniff at something interesting among the pine needles.

Midnightpaw nodded at their mentor's instructions and watched as she walked away. The apprentince lowered themself, their paws pressed gently against the ground. Their eyes darted around, looking for any leaves or twigs they might accidentally step on, which could blow their cover. The moved forward, slowly and silently. The closer they got, they slower they breath, hoping to not breath so loud. They came close to Embercloud and quickly jumped at her.

At the last moment, Embercloud’s ear swiveled at the sound of something brushing against the pine needles. She stepped to the side smoothly and looked up as Midnightpaw landed next to them. Embercloud offered an encouraging smile. “So close! Try again.” She purred.

Midnightpaw looked up at Embercloud and hissed in a playful tone. They went back to their original spot, waiting for their mentor to turn back around. Once done, Midnightpaw crouched down again, their tail slightly above the ground, so not to touch anything on the ground, their paws softly pressed against the ground as they padded forward, repeating their previous steps, extra carefully. They got closer to Embercloud and watched her for a moment before pouncing again.

Embercloud purred and flicked her tail-tip across their nose playfully.

The black and tortie she-cat turned and padded forward again. Casually walking and observing the forest around them. This time, she thought she heard something but when she turned, there was nothing there so Embercloud continued on. She didn’t know Midnightpaw had pounced until she felt the apprentices weight on her back. When an “oof”, Embercloud hit the ground. She struggled to get up to see if she could throw Midnightpaw off her, if not then this would be considered a successful lesson.

Midnightpaw dugged their claws into Embercloud's fur, not too deep as to not harm them. They clinged on, hoping to not fall.

After a moment of struggling, Embercloud let her muscles relax. A purr escaped her, she was proud of Midnightpaw’s determination to hang on. “Excellent work, Midnightpaw!” She purred, waiting for her apprentice to step off. Once they did, Embercloud would sit up and turn to face them. “Another strategy while pinning a cat down is that you can immobilize their shoulders and tail. This will severely limit any cat’s flexibility.” She nodded, satisfied. “One last thing,” she mewed, lifting her tail so Midnightpaw knew they weren’t done yet, “I would like for you to try and hide. If I am unable to find you, I will consider this lesson complete!” She purred with a smile, nodding encouragingly at them. “Hurry! I’ll give you some time. But be careful not to wander too far!” She mewed as she closed her eyes and flattened her ears, wanting no hints as to where Midnightpaw would hide themself.

Ooh like hide and seek? Midnightpaw's ears perked up excited. They already knew what to do. The apprentice ran off, pasting a few trees, occasionally stopping to rub their scent on it. They then ran back to a large oak, and started climbing up into the branches. They went high into the leaves, digging their claws into the bark. Soong they were pretty high and they looked down, waiting.
