HookPaw followed his mentor along the way, padding closely behind him.
"Err.. okay!" The apprentice replied, slightly distracted.
"I think.. Probably the throat, right? Or neck? If you were to maybe latch onto your opponents back, or somehow get them into a vulnerable enough position.. you could just swipe or bite their throat and kill them, I guess..?" All those constant yet random battle tips from elders did him well, he might actually have gotten this right! Well, hopefully.
He is FOR SURE going to be the BEST warrior RiverClan has ever seen! Eventually, he'll make it into a battle, and beat ALL of the other Clans, 100%! Well, unlikely.. And that would probably be a bit unfair.. But maybe not to all those snarky and cruel warriors though!

Seabreeze expected as much, most cats went to kill and honestly it was a bit surprising that the apprentice freely admitted that they would aim to kill in a battle. Which was usually what ended up happening, after all, Seabreeze has killed cats, but usually you try for immobilization and running off first. "Well sure, but usually you shouldn't turn to killing immediately. Additionally, the neck is one of the places your enemy will be most defensive of, meaning getting a shot to go for it will be extremely limited. Think about a broader picture of a battle, not just how to kill in one." The warrior slowed down and halted in a clearing in the general territory and turned to watch the apprentice, hoping that he grasped that there was more to a fight than just the end.

Really? HookPaw was suprised that it wasn't just that! Maybe he really did need to learn more.. That's rough..
"Well.. err.. maybe the face? If you managed to scratch their eyes or ears maybe that could distract em'.. Ooh, or maybe the feet, just knock them down!" He wasn't quite sure.. but maybe that was it! Hopefully.

HookPaw came to a stop just as his mentor did, looking up at SeaBreeze with curiousity. "Was I right?" He asked, flexing his paws a bit.

"Yes, eyes and ears are good as well. Ears, while not necessarily important to survival in the grand scheme of things, can cause blood to impair vision and also, hurts like hell. Eyes, obviously impair vision as well. But let's think about a fight this way: to fight, you need to be able to move to attack and defend yourself, if your enemy impairs your movement by twisting your paw or slashing your hips, you won't be able to attack or move as well.

Additionally, people don't think about defending such parts as much, which leads to more openings for them." The warrior explained before he dropped into a defensive position. Similar to a hunting crouch, though he wasn't as low to the ground, his stubby tail tucked between his legs, and his ears pinned. "This is a basic battle position. Being lower to the ground helps you move with more purpose, and keeping your extremities tucked close leaves less for your enemy to grab. Why don't you try your paw at it now?" Seabreeze was less sure about teaching battle, less experienced with the matter, but he figured that worse-case scenario he could just stop yapping and do more practical teaching.

HookPaw watched as SeaBreeze crouched down low, alike that of the hunting crouch, yet different.
"Right, okay.." HookPaw replied before attempting to do the same as his mentor was, crouching down low.
It wasn't perfect, but it was close. His form was a bit too loose, at least his tail was tucked below.. He wasn't as flat as he should've been, but again, it's close.

"Like this?" The tom asked, glancing back at SeaBreeze.
Hey, he wasn't too bad at this! Sure, there's room for improvement, but for the first time, it seemed pretty good. He'll get it with time, after all, he still has quite a while until he becomes a warrior.

Seabreeze carefully looked over the stance and found that it wasn't that far off from what it should be. Especially for the first time doing so, Seabreeze felt that fighting may come more naturally to Hookpaw. "That's good, here," Seabreeze slowly held a paw out, pausing for a moment to gauge the apprentice's reaction before gently attempting to nudge the apprentice's paws to better form right underneath his hips and right in front of his shoulders. "That should help you stay more balanced, which will help you with dodging and attacking. Do you wanna just try a spar to just wing it, or do you want me to go over some basic maneuvers with you first?"

HookPaw allowed his mentor to better his posture, listening closely.
He then stood up swiftly, fidgeting on his paws a bit.
As much as he wanted to jump right into fighting, he would for need to learn some basic maneuvers, so, it'd be smartest to do just that.
"Some basic maneuvers would be good to learn." The apprentice replied simply, listening closely for any directions SeaBreeze would give.
