riverclan was never stable for too long. ospreybite is old enough to know that. high ranks dying or simply disappearing, disputes with other clans, being kicked off of their own damn property for stars sake. nonetheless, she isn't fazed by the recent events, even if it is a bit troublesome. another dead leader, and now they're without a deputy. even if she does have a sliver of faith in owlstar, she's sure this will only make the clan appear even more weak when the other clans find out that another leader died.

with a snort, the massive molly shakes her head as she stalks out of the warrior's den. a few beats pass before they spot a familiar russet coat-- redsurge, their daughter. what's really concerning is the feeling of.. hesitance she feels before lumbering over, regarding redsurge with an impassive look. "redsurge, how's training your apprentice going for you?" she asks.

Redsurge looked up in surprise, but it quickly turned into a look of neutrality whenever she realized that it had been her mother, Ospreybite. Her tail tip twitched as she took a bite of the salmon she was eating, swallowing before replying in order to keep up her manners. “Shallowpaw’s training is coming along well. Why do you ask, Ospreybite?”

Last Redsurge checked, Ospreybite wasn’t Deputy; Hell, Owlstar hadn’t even appointed one yet! Her ears twitched, not knowing why her mother was acting like she was Deputy even though she wasn’t.

Sleekhawk’s feathery tail brushed against the soft earth beneath her as the golden-and-white braided tabby hauled a huge, silver carp into the camp. Her amber eyes gleamed with pride; this would feed all the queens and kits, and some of the elders, too.

Sleekhawk stumbled her way over to the fresh-kill pile, the carp heavy. Her muscles were straining with the effort to keep her head up with the weight in between her jaws.

Geez oh man, that was a CARP! Color Splashleap impressed, Sleekhawk had pulled a real doozy out of the river somewhere. And, well, she wasn't doing anything else. So......might as well just go and be impressed! Could be fun! Could make a friend! This was probably delusion, but Splashleap was slowly beginning to realize that no one actually remembered her. Which was kind of great, because she hadn't actually done the best job of being deputy. Then again, she'd been a bit less disastrous than some of the leaders seeing as she hadn't actually been given lives, so was she really that bad? Maybe? She didn't think so, but she also didn't want to find out if her clanmates agreed. So when no one had recognized her immediately, she just...hadn't mentioned things. Just rolled along under the radar, and it'd been great. So she'd just kept doing it. And realized that either she hadn't talked to the right cats, everyone had gone missing or died, or no one cared. All of which were just fine by her!

So up to Sleekhawk she went, purring Wow, that's an impressive carp if I've ever seen one! and glancing admiringly at the fish again. It truly was a magnificent specimen. Where'd you find it? I've not seen any that large in moons! In many many many moons, because she'd not been in Riverclan since well before their exile. But no one seemed to have noticed, so who was she to volunteer the information? @kira

Sleekhawk’s amber hues flicked over to Splashleap as the warrior approached her, and she set the carp down to reply to her Clanmate, grateful for the reason to give her neck a break.

“Fish seem to be more abundant in the river than prey on land,” The golden-and-white braided tabby warrior pointed out with a purr, gesturing to the large carp with a white-tipped forepaw. “I caught it down in the wider part of the river in our general territory. Lots and lots of fish down there.”

“I can show ya one day, if you’d like,” Sleekhawk chirped, her amber eyes glistening with pride. Her feathery tail and her head were held high. “It’s not far from where we usually hunt, so I’m debating asking Owlstar if we should fish that part of the river more often.”

Sleekhawk seemed unbothered by Splashleap’s yapping, and willing enough to accept the praise. Who wouldn’t be, quite honestly? Only the incredibly insecure or the falsely humble, and such cats were relatively few. Sleekhawk clearly wasn’t one of them, and better for it. I’d love to see your secret little spot sometime, though as you’ve probably noticed she waved a paw at herself, highlighting her relatively small build I might not be able to handle something quite so large. It was a rather lazy joke, but Splashleap was mostly just happy to be chatting to someone.

Someone who clearly had no idea who she was. I wonder whether that’d be a question for Owlstar, or whoever ends up as deputy. Seeing as they send out the patrols and whatnot. Not that she’d know anything about that herself, of course. Though I suppose if she takes too long choosing she’ll have to pull double duty, and then it would be her problem. the speculation was mostly idle. Splashleap didn’t particularly care who took the role, but a bit of gossip on the topic was an option if Fleethaek so desired. @kira

A purr welled up in Sleekhawk’s throat. “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure that if you had another cat or two with you, you’d be able to handle it fine,” She blinked, narrowing her amber eyes. “Yeah, she would; I’m sure that she’ll choose a cat who StarClan approves of, though.”

Primroseadder slipped back into camp, holding a pair of mice in between her jaws. She made her way over to the prey pile and set them atop of it.
