Shade kit's blue eyes widen in surprise. "This is not your fault! If it's anyone's it's mine for going out alone. But blame isn't gonna help anything." She pauses and looks beseechingly at Stormpelt. "We have to learn to live with it. That's what we can control. At least we can make the choice to not become bitter and resentful. If we do, that is the one thing that is actually our fault." She rests her head against Stormpelt's shoulder.

"I don't know," Shade kit purred against his fur. "Sometimes I hate it and sometimes I love it." She wished she could give a better answer but that was honestly how she felt. Even if it was cliche. Sometimes life was just cliche, she decided.
