Coyotepaw ♠ He / They ♠ Shadowclan apprentice ♠ 11 + moons
The large apprentice nodded in response, heading off in the direction Cherrywood had told him to. He raised his nose to the sky, taking in all the scents around the border. He smelled the faint smell of Thudnerclan, though they weren't close enough to the border for the smell to be overwhelming.
They sniffed again, trying to differentiate all the scents filling their nostrils. Owl... stale still, rats... stale... is that... lizard? He closed his eyes, sniffing harder.
Definitely a lizard. He nodded to himself before quietly darting toward the scent.
Coyotepaw slowed his pace as the scent grew stronger and stronger, eventually, he spotted it, a rather small lizard laying on a rock, soaking up what heat it could before hibernating for the winter. He found it odd that the lizard was still out but didn't question it too much, relieved to at least be finding some kind of prey.

Coyotepaw recalled his mentor's lesson on catching lizards and frogs. He expertly crouched and crept forward, keeping his tail off the ground as he closed the space between him and the lizard. After a few moments, he leaped. The large apprentice landed perfectly on it, before killing it cleanly and swiftly. He grinned down, his tail waving behind him proudly as he buried the prey, continuing to hunt.
He once more sniffed the air, Thunderclan, stale predators... the lizard he'd just caught- wait what's that? A mouse! Those were easy to catch! He padded off in it's direction, crouching once it was in eyeshot. He crept forward before leaping at the mouse, attempting to catch it.

Maaaybe not that easy. He overestimated the distance he'd need to jump to land on the mouse and ended up landing just past it and on his side. He hissed to himself, lashing a paw out in an attempt to at least still catch the damned thing.

Damn it! He missed it again, watching it scamper off into the shadows he let out a frustrated sigh. His tail lashed behind him, but he tried to keep his cool. Whatever. He took a deep breath before sniffing the air again. A squirrel, harder to catch than a mouse. Of course, why would the forest offer him simple prey after his perfect first catch?
He tracked the squirrel, locating it fairly easily. It was surprisingly plump for the time of year, he didn't care though. This would make some cat in Shadowclan very happy. Once close enough he leaped, claws extended as he attempted to catch the squirrel.

Are you serious?! He'd missed again? This is so insane, he was about to become a warrior and here he was messing up almost every catch beyond their first. He still had the chance to maybe hook it with his claw as it was taking off.

He reached out, lashing a claw-filled paw towards the squirrel as it began to run, a sharp pain shot through the tom's shoulder, causing a sharp hiss to escape his maw.
what the hell was that? He wondered, slowly trying to rise to his paws. Coyotepaw flinched as he put his full weight on the now seemingly injured shoulder. Was probably just bruised, twisted or sprained at worst, he'd go get it checked out later... probably.
He sniffed the air again, he couldn't just bring back one piece of prey, that was shameful and he'd just finally gotten onto Cherrywood's good side after moons of her seemingly hating him. The large Shadowclan apprentice decided he'd at least follow the squirrel's scent. It had headed farther into Shadowclan territory instead of Thunderclan luckily.
They followed it's scent. Relieved as it came into his vision. He crouched skillfully, darting forward. Despite the pain in his shoulder he pushed through, leaping towards the squirrel.

Success! He finally landed on that stupid squirrel, and with that gave the final killing blow. He picked it up, limping back towards his lizard. He buried the squirrel along with it. He'd try to catch one more piece of prey. The large apprentice once more pointed his nose to the air.
ah- A rat. Something Shadowclan didn't typically turn to unless necessary, but right now he just wanted to get another piece of prey so he could get back and rest.
He slowly made his way toward the direction the scent was coming from. Coyotepaw crouched, creeping forward slowly and carefully. He leapt out of the bushes, aiming to land on the rather average rat.

And he missed, pretty badly too. He attempted to twist his body once his jump had gone over the rat but ended up not even landing on his paws. The large Shadowclan apprentice skidded across the ground, a throbbing pain shot through his shoulder but he did his best to ignore it. He quickly lashed out the paw on his not-injured side, claws unsheathed.

He managed to hook the rat on his claws, dragging it closer before delivering the killing blow. He lay there for a bit, taking deep breaths as the pain surged through his shoulder. Once it lessened he slowly forced himself to his paws, picking up the prey he'd caught before limping his way back to Cherrywood with his prey. He set them down before sitting nearby, readying himself to watch whatever was left of her lesson.
