speak of the devil(s), three apprentices were quick to appear at his call. wormbite gave a short nod towards aspenpaw, waiting to see if anymore cats would appear. maybe,, another warrior,, please... he did not do well with children. soon it became clear it would just be him and the three apprentices. "alright you three, come along, " he spoke before trotting outside of camp.
the oriental would lead them out into the territory a decent way until he smelt less of his clanmates and more of the surrounding prey. turning to face the apprentices, "aspenpaw, feel free to begin hunting. simply make sure to not stray too far - keep in hearing distance, " he warned carefully, it would be dreadful if stormstar gave him an earful for losing an apprentice but truthfully how were they supposed to be independent if they weren't allowed a taste of it ?
turning to the other two, "can either of you hunt? or shall we go over the hunter's crouch?" he inquired.

With both apprentices now up and out of their nests, the leader grinned and turned to lead the way out of camp. "We'll be workin' on huntin' first. Land huntin', since we're gettin' into leaf-bare 'n can't rely on the rivers incase they freeze over." While leaf-bare was her favorite time of year - she would never admit it, but watching the first snow fall made her feel like a little kit all over again - it wasn't the greatest for fishing, which was RiverClan's main source of prey.
"Either of you know the basic crouch yet? Or what to focus on when stalkin' prey?" Turning around once they had reached a good spot, Stormstar glanced at both apprentices, mostly wondering if Talonpaw had picked up anything.
White paws silently carried the graceful figure of the silver she-cat, her tail flicking behind her with each step. Ears swiveling at each small noise. Her nose twitched as she spotted her goal. A shimmering patch of river that was perfect to sit and watch for fish. The bank was laid out just so, and she would easily be able to grab at any fish that swam her way. Even with her shoulder.
She slunk to her chosen spot, setting in and allowing her keen eyes to peer into the water; she was watching for any shimmer of scales under the surface. The first glimpse of scale and she would strike.

Primrosepaw´s emerald hues narrowed as Wormbite sent Aspenpaw off, her ears twitching at his question toward Marigoldpaw and herself. ´´Adderstrike, Brokenstream, and Goldfish all taught me how to hunt, though I was naturally good at it,´´ She commented, her thick-furred tail swaying behind her. She opened her jaws slightly to taste the air, her head turning in the direction of a rustling sound.
[ Ultimate Predator has been activated. ]
Crouching, Primrosepaw stopped all movement, stalking forward slowly. The scent of shrew filled the apprentice´s scent glands, making her mouth water. One more heartbeat...
NOW.
Primrosepaw sprang, clearing the undergrowth easily and pinning the shrew to the ground with a snowy forepaw before it even had the chance to squeal in terror or try to escape. She bent her head and sank her teeth in its neck, silently thanking StarClan for her kill. Satisfied, the apprentice leapt back over the brambles and strode over to Wormbite and Marigoldpaw, the shrew between her jaws.
[OOC: I double checked to be sure and it looks like it was Ravenpaw that wanted to train with Owltalon for some advanced combat skills!]
Ravenpaw bounded after Owltalon excitedly, honored and thrilled by the opportunity to train with the RiverClan Deputy. She caught up quickly, nodding eagerly when she did. "Yes! You see, I want to be the strongest - or, at least among the strongest - warriors in RiverClan one day!" She meowed proudly, standing tall. "I'd like to learn some more advanced fighting techniques. I heard you taught lessons on predator combat." When she finished explaining, she dipped her head respectfully. "Please, Owltalon, teach me so I can be strong and protect my clan!"

Owltalon smiled toothily at the apprentice. If she was ready, then Owltalon certainly was. She gave the cat a glance before she spoke, her amber eyes burning with adrenaline. "Any specific predator? Or technique?" She asked. Sometimes cats had a preference, sometimes they didn't. Regardless, Owltalon was going to ask.
"Ya don't 'ave ta know the specifics," she added. "But I'm welcome ta teach anythin' ya got in mind, eh?"

Ravenpaw beamed, whiskers with excitement. She shook her head. “I don’t know enough to have any specific requests. Wherever you think would be a good place for me to start is okay by me!” She purred.
Peachspring’s bushy tail swished as she trotted out onto the RiverClan territory. It’d be a nice day for fishing, she’d decided. Sunlight warmed her ginger pelt, despite the chilly weather that was emerging alongside Leaf-Fall. She didn’t mind much. Her thick coat would be enough to keep her warm, with or without the chilly weather.
There was another figure who’d already beat her to the river it seemed, a molly who stared down at the water with a certain glint of determination in her gaze. So naturally, ever the chatterbox, Peachspring found herself settling down next to her, not close enough to scare away any possible fish, however. ”Howdy!” She greeted, trying to keep her voice down so she didn’t scare away of the little fishies in the river. ”Its quite a lovely day for fishin’, ain’t it?”
Her eyes snapped away from the river and settled on the ginger she-cat before her. Oh. A Clanmate. She smiled kindly and nodded.
"Eh, hello... Peachspring." She said, taking a moment longer than usual to recall the name. She really should be more social. Maybe then her facial recognition would kick in better... or was it the name portion? Ah, whatever.
She sat silently for a moment longer, peering at the water and waiting. The eyes of her Clanmate settled firmly on her, however, was mildly unsettling. She swallowed silently and caught the sheen of scales under rippling water, lashing out and...
Aha! She got it. Thank the stars. She had never performed well under pressure, so this relaxed her immensely. She quickly sunk her teeth into the body, just at the neck, and set it aside. Her chest puffed out a little and she seemed pleased.
"You came out to fish as well?" she queried, her voice just as airy as it had been before as she turned back to the molly.
Her leg had finally healed enough to walk somewhat comfortable, though Larkwing could feel the stiffness in the freshly mended bone every time she took a step, and she got sore and tired far more quickly than she used to... but it was something. It was enough. So, naturally, she grabbed the first opportunity she could to slip out of camp and do some fishing... away from the ThunderClan border regardless of the fat that the otter issue had been handled. Part of her wonders if she would flat out refuse to go on any assigned patrols in that direction if told to do so... she wants to say she wouldn't but who can really say until the time comes. It isn't as though she'd be having the opportunity to see for herself any time soon either, especially with... current circumstances.
Briefly, emerald gaze sweeps to her stomach, swollen now more than ever. It's still with somewhat mixed feelings of fear and joy that she thinks about the future. She has no idea what she's doing, how to be a mother, how to raise good kits who know what's right from wrong. But, then again, her own mother should have known that... and she was a pretty poor example to go off of.
Speaking of her current situation... it was perhaps unwise that the queen warrior was out alone in her state and with the kits not long off of making their debut, but how about Larkwing confine you to camp for two moons and see how you like it? Cats everywhere... no place to breathe... watching as patrols are assigned and sent out... unable to assist with much of anything beyond the simplest of camp repairs and preparations for leaf-bare while her leg was still healing. It's no surprise she took the first chance she could to get out.
The air is cold, and the water biting as the slight spray reaches her face when she crouches by the edge. Normally, the river is full of fish even in leaf-bare so it's rare RiverClan goes hungry, but after the otters, there seems to be significantly less fish than usual. Still, she won't return empty pawed, even if that means sitting here for a long while.
[roll: 17]
Luck seems to be on her side, however, as it isn't long before a chub ambles past, and a cream colored paw darts out to swipe it from the river, successfully snatching it and flinging it ashore where the warrior quickly kills it. It's good to be out and hunting, good to feel like she's useful, and Larkwing does not envy the days where she will again have to rely on others for hunting she can do herself but... again she glances to her stomach, sitting down and tail curling protectively over herself. Would she feel the same way once they were here? Or would she suddenly be okay with staying in camp as long as she got to be with her kits?
She's thinking about this as a perch drifts by and she snags it out of the water without really thinking about it, collecting the two fish in her maw and starting the walk home, lost in thought... was it time for her to settle herself in the nursery? Could she get away with just another day or two in the warrior's den..?

Marigoldpaw didn't really know how to hunt. It wasn't a secret though it wasn't really expected either? She just knew she needed to get some hunting done or else she'd be left without knowing how to get her own food, and Marigoldpaw didn't really like being hungry. At the sound of Wormbite's voice (ooo, pretty cool name), the thin she-cat trotted over, glancing over to her friend Aspenpaw and giving him a warm smile.
"Uhm, Wormbite, yes? I'd uh love to accompany you all." She had to straighten up a bit to look the tom head on (she was a weeee bit shorter than average, but she was growing regardless), but her hazle eyes shown brightly.
Aside from all the blood and stuff, hunting seemed relatively easy. She was a bit bigger now, and certainly more faster, so she wouldn't mind chasing a few things around to eventually catch them. She took a seat next to her fellow clanmate, leaning on him slightly. "Master hunter over here, huh?" The apprentice smiled wistfully before turning her head to fully face Aspenpaw. "How've you, uh been? Excited?"

As Marigoldpaws made her way over to join them Aspenpaw returned her smile. Yay! Now he could go hunting with his friend too, this day was off to a good start. "I've been good, had I fight with mentor but it wasn't anything really significant. How's training with goldfish going, has she taught how to fight yet?" he ask, nudging his friend with his shoulder. As the question left his mouth he saw Primrose paw approaching them too. He greeted the older apprentice with a toothy smile. They waited a few moments longer before it was clear the only cats joining wormbite were apprentices and as soon as the warrior noticed that he was guiding all three of said apprentices out of camp to the territory.
«aspenpaw, feel free to begin hunting. simply make sure to not stray too far - keep in hearing distance, »
"yes sir", aspenpaw felt proud that he was trusted in a way to go hunting on his own. Of course this is what usually happens on hunting patrols but this wasn't a hunting patrol or more so an official hunting patrol. On top of that he would make sure not to wonder to far, he made that mistake already he wouldn't again.
After he traveled a small amount of a distance away from the group, he opened his maw and breathed in the scents that wafted through the air. He scented a few nearby critters, a mouse, bird and .... A shrew. There were probably more but those were the closest ones. Aspenpaw decided to focus on the closest victim, the small Jay that was pecking at an overturned stone amongst the dead foliage. Dropping down into a hunting crouch, one that he had done many times now, he began creeping towards it. Focus on sound and staying out of its site, scent didn't really matter for birds...if he remembered correctly. Once close enough he pounce and-
Roll: 13 success
Landed! His claws caught the birds wings just before it could take off from the ground. Pining the panicked bird to the ground, Aspenpaw sunk his teeth into its neck killing it. Wow, he caught another bird! He was getting really good at it. Picking up his prey he made his way back to where worm, Mari and prim still were and dropped the prey at the stump of a tree. This way he wouldnt get lost or lose his prey everytime he ran around chasing other prey.
(Sorry this took so long)
