Snowybreeze's day had started out quite well. In fact, he had plans. Big plans! Involving loads and loads of hunting. Because... well... It seemed there was something... peculiar going on with his little treasures. Not something bad, necessarily. Just... worth noting, he supposed.
What it boiled down to was basically they were hungry. Like... uncomfortably hungry. No matter how much they ate. And well... The Maine Coon mix thought it was understandable. Strawberrykit and Cardinalkit were growing up quite a bit. As much as he did as a kit. Frostkit, Jaggedkit, and Seedkit were still on the smaller side - namely Frostkit and Jaggedkit, really - but what if they were just not eating enough? He hadn't thought anything of them being so small at first, truly. Berryfrost had been completely dwarfed by his own size, so he had just assumed they would resemble their mother more than him... which to be honest, was probably preferred. She had always been the better cat of the two of them, after all!
But their hunger seemed to hint at something else. A growth spurt in the making? Goodness... that very possibly could be it! And if it was? Well... That meant that it was his job as their father to provide as much food as possible! Fresh food, too! He had noticed their faces sometimes when they were eating. Cardinalkit seemed to be able to eat anything, even rocks just fine. The others were pickier, and he could think of no better way to make sure they were enjoying their extra feeding requirements than with a fresh rabbit or two. Why, just thinking about it was making his mouth water!
And yet on his way out... it happened. The medicine cat called him out for patrol. Goodness, she seemed to be calling on him an awful lot lately... A part of him was honored. He hoped this meant she saw him as a reliable clanmate, because... golly... He certainly tried to be! But at the same time, it was quite daunting. Because what if he let her down? Eep!
Plans changed for now, Snowybreeze headed towards Lightningstorm, dipping his head respectfully towards her before turning to Dustbunny as she was called over as well, offering a bashful smile in greeting before dipping his head at her as well. Attentive to what the herbalist had to say, the gentle giant almost screeched in horror as she revealed that this was not Dustbunny's patrol to lead... but his. Oh. Oh no. Oh dear. Oh golly. Um... he did not mean to be disrespectful or state that the calico was wrong but, surely the more experienced warrior should be in charge? She had been in charge back during the fire, and he had been more than happy to take orders from her. Surely that same status quo could be maintained here?
And that was a no. Instantly shut down by the medicine cat. Oh... if he could only cry without wasting their time, he would! And what was worse! He was to fumble and blunder through this while leading his apprentice with them as well?! Oh goodness. Ever since Milknose, not a single apprentice of his had made it to warrior. All of them gone. Probably done with his ineptitude and decided to leave the clan. He couldn't blame them. How much faith could you have in a clan that had a cat like himself in charge of teaching an apprentice? Oh... StarClan help him.
With a gulp, the cinnamon patched warrior tried his best to settle his nerves - he had to be a good warrior and be a good role model for his kittens and his apprentice, by golly - the tom sniffed at the dark roots the molly had brought out for them, the scent distinctly its own in the WindClan clearing. Alright. Finding something by scent... This was not the first time he had done this. He could do this again. In fact, if he pretended that Lightningstorm was the real patrol lead, he could just assume that he wasn't really ordering anyone around. He was just... leading them with his nose to wherever the roots grew! Yes. He liked that. Much better than the notion of daring to impose on his clanmates.
With a sigh to soothe his frayed emotions, Snowybreeze turned towards the clearing, his soft voice calling out as loudly as he dared - almost loud enough to seem like a cat speaking to another besides them in regular conversation - for his apprentice. She had just been reassigned to him the day before, and frankly, he had been too much of a coward to show his face to her. What if she was as disappointed as Vixenpaw? As frustrated as Crookedpaw? As disillusioned as Hushpaw? He wasn't impressive nor special, and just about any other warrior would have made for a more remarkable mentor. Silverpelt above... he had to get a grip for this, or else Lightningstorm was going to glare at him again!
"D-Daffodil... Daffodilpaw. If you. If you could just. Join us. To go. Gather. Some herbs. Please. I would. I would be most. Most grateful. To you," he mewed in an apologetic voice as pale blue eyes scanned the clearing for the light haired paw.
