Peachspring
20 Moons || RiverClan Warrior || She/her
. . .
RiverClan’s Southern Sweetheart
. . .

Peachspring kept a watchful eye on the two as they each went their separate ways. Those two seemed to each have a good head on their shoulders. They seemed responsible and respectful, the complete opposite of how wild and rambunctious she was at their age. But then again, she'd been a little kitten on a farm with no rules or boundaries besides Ma's loose authority. After she made sure they were both gonna be okay, she turned off and headed off in her own direction.

She treaded along the soft ground with quick and careful pawsteps, like she was on some mission of some sort. Just as she was about to come to a stop to taste the air, Peachspring caught sight a trail of tiny paw prints in the dirt. Bingo! Easy peasy. Her eyes gleamed in delight as she bent down to check the freshness of the scent, and possibly figure out what kind of prey it was. Hopefully not something boring as a mouse or a water vole. She always hated having to eat the same mice everyday back on the farm. They were so tiny and unfilling, but better than a frog, she guessed. Those actually were disgusting.

[d10 : rolled a 10 - success!]
The tracks ended up being a big fat boring mouse. How disappointing. But by the scent, she could tell that the mouse wasn't too far away. Peachspring dropped into a crawl and crept along the paw prints, leaving a trail of her own in the sand alongside the dirt. She crept closer as the little creature came into sight. Finally, with a swift pounce and bite to the neck, she was able to easily kill the creature. She gently grabbed it's neck with her teeth and buried it in a small hole.

She lifted her head once more to find the scent of a rabbit and a thrush closest. Strange that a lil' bunny would be out in the RiverClan territory, but not super rare. Both would be pesky pieces of prey. Birds n' bunnies were so skittish. One wrong crunch of an autumn leaf and suddenly they were flappin' or runnin' away before you could even blink. But Peachspring liked a little challenge every now and then. It made simple patrols exciting. She'd go for the thrush first. It seemed closer. Peachspring turned to the left and cautiously began following the scent. She slunk through the tall grass as the bird fitted around, pecking at the ground. Maybe the thrush was hunting too? What did birds even eat? Probably insects or something. She almost felt bad as she lowered herself into a hunting crouch and stalked nearer. She wiggles her butt and launched herself into the bird. It was a flurry of feathers from there, certainly not her best work. She clumsily sank her claws into it as it sqawked and flapped around as she struggled to finally pin it to the ground. She grunted as the bird screeched in her face, but none the less she managed to subdue it with a hard bite. When the creature finally limp in her jaw she dropped it to the floor, drowning at the mess of feathers it'd made. She once more buried it in the ground as she'd done before. Then she gave her pelt a few licks to try to clean it, before continuing on.

A new friend already? This patrol had already started out great. "It's nice to meet you too!" He chirped, as he noticed a warrior approaching them. Peachspring huh? She seemed lovely! This should be a walk in the park, as long as his hunting's okay... Anyway. They trotted on behind the two of them, heading into the territory. They'd only been out here a few times. One - Fading's border tour... Two! Searching for new-home, well, for camp. He supposed he should probably start calling it camp now. And three - Moving to new-home - uh, camp.
He'd technically been out with Oliverat, he guessed, but they'd always stuck close to the abandoned twoleg den, with the territory on lockdown. The edge of the den wasn't exactly 'out in the territory'.

Stuck in various camps all the time, he hadn't really noticed the seasons as they began to change - the leaves were? Brown? And orange, AND yellow and even red? His eyes blinked in a little confusion and a little awe. The three came to a stop in a small clearing. Okay, so it was hunting time now. "Oki doke!" they called, before springing away, not going far at all.

So now they just needed to find something. That was the super tricky bit. He flattened himself to the ground, as his eyes surveyed the area. Just ahead, they noticed a little pile of leaves and stuff - it must've all fallen from a tree. As he stared at it, a little animal made its way over, searching through the pile - Oh!! What good luck!! What was it Oliverat taught him? Smell, creep, end? Well, he didn't need to smell, the perfect opportunity had presented itself! Just to creep and end! The apprentice began to creep along the ground, trying suuuper hard not to make a sound, getting closer and closer to this animal. This creature, it was greyish brown, with a biiig fluffy tail. Was that a squirrel? They'd occasionally seen one on the fresh kill pile, but they couldn't be sure. Now they were getting close, they'd need to spring soon.
[Rolled: D10 Scored: 2] [flopped </3]
He pressed his weight onto his haunches, ready to spring, but a few pebbles beneath his paws dislodged and - oh dear! The clattering noise alerted the squirrel pretty quickly - but still, he pounced forwards! The squirrel though, was far quicker, and had soon found its way up the tree... Darn. He stumbled up to his paws and gazed up the tree. If only he could fish! Bet he'd be way better at that.

That couldn't be all, right? He stopped to sniff the air, hoping to get an essence of something. Thankfully, there was a trace of mouse! Where from though? The paw swivelled around, trying to figure out how to find it - was it wind direction?? After lots of spinning, he finally figured it out, and situated himself upwind. Then, he crept along, taking extra care this time. The mouse soon came into view. It was snuffling at something by the riverside. That gave it fewer places to run, perfect!
Sure there was a chance of Seapaw falling in but, to be honest he'd welcome it. The river didn't look too fast round here, and he reeeaaaaly wanted to go swimming. He crept along further, eyes on the prize.
[Rolled: D10 Scored: 5] [just only a win!]
Until - boom! He sprung forwards, claws in the air and - UFF! He fell right down on the mouse, claws not exactly hitting it - but! They just about managed to grab it as it attempted to scurry off - though, not without his back legs ending up entirely in the water. Still! He was happy with that! One little mouse was better than nothing! He heaved his haunches onto shore, shaking the water out - hopefully no one would ask about that.

A singular shrew was far too little for a catch, he would try atleast a few more times before heading back to the meet up place which was...... Aspenpaw raised his head and looked around trying to figure exactly which way he had come from again. It was that direction, he thinks? No it must be. He wasn't lost yet. Deciding he still had more hunt in him he took a few paws steps away from his first catch and scented the air as well as listened for any nearby noises. He immediately wrinkled his nose in distaste as the scent of bird filled his nose. Sure they weren't so bad for eating but catching them had been a whole different story for aspenpaw. Amber eyes scanned the foliage for this feathered pest. It took him a moment to spot the bird camouflaged amongst the leafs, considering its red color he'd almost missed it. The cardinal sat a bit of a distance away. Pecking at the root of a tree, for bugs he'd assume. don't needa to worry about scent he thought to himself, just sound and staying out of view. Aspenpaw lowered himself to the ground slowly and crept his way out of the bird view as he began to stalk towards it. Birds birds birds!! Why did it have to be a bird! He sucked at catching birds. Aspenpaw didn't even wait till he was a few pawsteps away and pounce the moment he was in leaping distance.

Roll: 5 {Great Success}
Aspenpaw shut his eyes preparing to feel feather hit his face or the small talons on the birds paws aiming for his eyes but was greatly shocked when instead he was met with a surprised squawk and feathers beneath his paws. Aspenpaw delivered a quick clean bite to the struggling birds throat and only let it go once he was sure it was dead. He did it? He did it! He caught a bird!! I CAUGHT A BIRD!!" He shrieked excitedly leaping for joy, oh when Floodsight hears this-- from someone else because he didn't want to talk to her ofcourse. Aspenpaw picked up his bird and carried it towards his shrew. One more hunt and he was sure he'd ve done for the day. He was started to regret his over excited scream because any prey that had originally been in the vicinity were probably gone by now.

Aspenpaw travelled a bit away in search for more prey, not to far ofcourse. This was his first hunting lesson and he would hate to disobey orders immediately. He only stopped once he caught the scent of a squirrel. This one took him longer to spot but once he looked up, the bushy tailed vermin was not to far away. In fact it was just a few pawsteps away. Uhhh what should he do. Any movement would definitely spook the squirrel, it hadn't seen him yet but how hard would he be to spot when the squirrel was less then a tail length away from him. Aspenpaw began lowering himself into a hunting crouch hoping the squirrel would continue being daft and not run away.

Roll: 9 {Messy catch}

His sudden movement even though slow, immediately caught the attention of the squirrel. The grew vermin immediately sprinted for a tree and shot up it. Aspenpaw was quick to chase it leaping off the ground and scaling the tree. He didn't know how to climb and immediately felt himself falling. Desperately he reached out claw managing to snag the hind quarters of the squirrel and pull it down with him. Luckily the pile of leaves at the base of the tree managed to break most of his fall, the squirrel however was less dazed then him and began making a run for it again. Aspenpaw twisted around and chased after it. It reached the base of tree and was about scale it again but aspenpaw would not allow it. With a powerful swipe he knocked the squirrel off the tree sending I sprawling. He was quick to catch it, finally managing to give it a killing bite. Not the cleanest of catches but atleast he caught it!. Picking up the squirrel aspenpaw headed back in the direction he had come. Following the scent of shrew and bird. Once he found the rest of his prey he picked it up satisfied with today's catch.

He began heading off in the direction he had though he'd come from but after a little walk he came to a river, not a field. Ok so maybe he took a wrong turn. He wandered around a little bit longer until it became clear that he was in fact lost. Uh ok maybe just go back to- um. "HELLO!? GUYS!!? ANYONE " He shouted dropping his prey and pacing in a circle hoping his patrol mates would find him.

{He isn't to far away so peachspring and Seapaw should be able to hear him /w\}

+1 cardinal
+1 squirrel
