slowly pushing closer and closer, avoiding sticks and dry leaves like second nature and silently thanking sleepysunrises night hunting lesson for some of the expertise he could bring to this hunt. the closer he got the more tension vibrated through his body, muscles tense and overall on high alert even though the birds appeared busy picking and the frog and fighting each other for it right now.
their dark feathers reminded him to the rook he caught, the only difference being their slightly larger size and head shape. crows just overall looked a bit less bald than rooks did. well, he hadnt seen that many rooks close up yet, but the last one he caught looked pretty bald to him, with their greyish skin around the beak, such a stark contrast to the deep purple-ish black feathers. he could see why he himself carried the same name, dark fur with white markings it was pretty clear, but crows and ravens were arguably cooler than rooks in every way. he wouldnt complain though, he liked 'rookfire' and crowfire or ravenfire would sound a bit odd. besides, he wasnt really one to question dawnstars judgement.
oddly, rookfire took note of their beaks, darker than those present on rooks and a tiny bit more arched than their smaller relatives. he briefly wondered what the deciding factor behind beat size, colour and shape was, why probably closely related (they looked pretty similar and that was enough proof of their relation to him) birds would have different beaks. finally close enough to the birds that he could identify them as a group of four and spotted the smallest of the fours wing hanging at an odd angle. briefly halting just in leaping distance, he thought of a plan. catch as many of them as possible, beginning with one or two (how many ever he could handle) of the larger ones and then finally the injured one. leaping forward, the medic attempted to stretch out his limbs and stop as many of the birds as possible from fleeing.

As a reminder:
- There will be a five-round system where we will roll dice for each cat participating. The results will be as follows:
* 1-5 = automatic fail; you miss the catch.
* 6-10 = you catch one piece (and perhaps not as smoothly as you'd want).
* 11-15 = you catch two pieces! look at you!
* 16-20 = you catch three pieces, wowza!
**Note: if you have the Ultimate Predator purrk, your dice will be rolled twice! The better outcome of the two will be chosen. Please notify us if you have this purrk if it's not listed on your header/posts!**
- But beware! Not all numbers are as they seem... some random numbers between 1-20 have been chosen as 'trapped'. Rolling these digits might land you in a rather inconvenient situation. Each group will have different 'trapped' numbers. Perhaps the dice will be kind to you? Perhaps not...
- This will be a semi-fast-paced event where we will be wanting to roll every 2-3 days to keep it moving, so if you're participating, please be ready to respond! No post means no dice rolls, so if there isn't one, we will skip over you for that roll.

She must've gotten distracted, because as everyone else continues their hunt, Cinderpaw sits there with her two mice and does nothing. Shaking herself out of it, the black tabby quickly tries to make up for this error. Soon, she scents prey no one else is going after and crouches low to stalk it.

Shadepaw felt a ripple of satisfaction as her claws sunk into the mouse, killing it. Her first catch. Without any training. This was going better than she'd thought. She had to remind herself that anything could happen; she might not be so lucky next time, to suppress her elation. Nobody likes a gloater. Yet, she couldn't help thinking about Clovepool... How Clovepool would react to this. Shadepaw could not allow herself pride until she succeeds in this fully... She'd only allow it if Clovepool approves.
She didn't believe in luck, anyways. There were so many variables, and not all in her favor. She either succeeded or failed. There was no in between. And if she did fail... She'd do better. Those were the rules.
What to do with the prey..? She most certainly couldn't leave it out here in the open... She struggled to remember a detail, one perhaps she'd overheard, about warriors burying their prey to keep it safe. Seems like a good plan.
She dug a hole under the fallen leaves and pushed her mouse under it. Lifting her head, she could not smell any more prey-scent... They might've been scared away by her messy catch.
Padding through the woods, she smelled a familiar scent--- a cat from her patrol. Sleepysunrise, if she remembered correctly. She seemed to be teaching another apprentice tips. That would be useful...
Shadepaw watched Sleepysunrise demonstrate, then listened as she told the other apprentice to crouch. Seems simple enough...
Shadepaw crouched down, adjusting her original stance to fit Sleepysunrise's instructions. When she felt ready, she stood again, tasted the air for a moment, and padded quietly away, searching for more prey.

@Estelle - Sleepy mention, though no direct interaction. Shadepaw was just watching from the sides, but if you want Sleepy to notice her that's fine as well!

Silentpaw gazes at his catches, a satisfied look on his face. 2 sparrows. Not bad. Tasting the air and almost immediately taking in the scent of rabbit. Nosing around the territory for a bit, he was quick to discover a small family of rabbits. Nice. He dropped low to the ground, though not exactly a crouch. His movements were fluid, quickly moving towards the rabbits. Finally, he leapt at them.

It was the latter, most certainly, even if Sleepysunrise was not aware and had no clue what the specific sentence is about, it had to be the later one. But that aside, being the warrior that she was, the enforcer gave the apprentice a subtle nod and took notice that neither other apprentice had appeared or even given a reaction. Well, for now, she could focus on Willowpaw. At least this one was willing. She flicked her tail and crouched down, imploring the younger feline to study her movements with a quiet word; "Watch."
She mew, creeping off second later in direction of a mouse she had scented moments ago. Quiet steps and dark fur that adequately blended into the shadows, the enforcer's paw steps remained quiet and light as she kept herself in balance partially thanks to her level-held tail in a practiced crouch, before pouncing once she was close enough and swiftly killing the mouse. She buried aside her prey to save it for later, having noticed a blackbird nearby too; although she had planned to catch just a single mouse as an example, Sleepysunrise couldn't ignore the ready-to-catch bird peacefully picking away at the ground. She had to be additionally stealthy as she approached, but when the dark-furred molly darted forth she took care to slap the bird's wings closed and keep it from fluttering away, quickly twisting its neck until it died, too, burying it alongside her mouse.
Returning to Willowpaw, she waved her tail, a silent wondering of what she understood. "You."
Sleepysunrise mew, indicating it was the apprentice's turn. But she knew better than to leave it at a mere example, and crouched once more, inviting Willowpaw to copy her stance. "Keep low, and your fur off the ground. Paws a shoulder width apart. Tail level.. It will help with balance."
She briefly flicked her gaze over to the apprentice. "Keep your steps light. Be mindful of the ground... Don't step on debris. Be silent."
She demonstrated, slowly. "Pounce swiftly, precisely. It takes practice, but... Try. Claws unsheathed. So you can catch your prey. The neck -- it'll... relieve its life. Quickly."

Willowpaw watched intently. She was fairly certain her tail had messed up her first attempt, with her moving it around and about. The apprentice gazed with wide eyes as the older warrior returned with both a mouse and a bird. She hadn't even caught a single morsel! She brushed that aside; unconfidence had no place in ShadowClan. Instead, she focused on what Sleepysunrise was telling her, nodding diligently.
When Sleepysunrise was finished speaking, Willowpaw immediately turned her head towards the right. She'd noticed a scent of alarm coming from that direction a while ago. From what she could gather, it was a slightly above average sized mouse. It was aware of the cats, so she'd have to be extra careful.
Willowpaw slowly lowered herself onto her haunches. She padded forward lightly, on paws that may as well be a few feathers in a trenchcoat. She was begging to StarClan that she'd be able to catch this one.
A familiar thought ran through her head. 'Now, to not screw this up.'

QUILLPAW he/him. 10 moons. dark grey tom; tabby markings; light grey markings, amber and blue eyes.
[ mind reader ]
wow, it seems he's having extraordinarily good luck today. now lugging around two squirrels and three toads, quillpaw decides to bury them for the time being. catching another scent, he follows after it, dropping into a crouch when the prey comes into view. a crow. nose scrunching briefly, he silently stalks closer before leaping at the bird.
Newtbelly leapt through the air, claws landing upon the frog - yes! With a small bite, it was over, and his head perked up - at some point, two other frogs had appears, hopping past him. What an opportunity. Newtbelly jumped toward them, paws slamming down. 3 Frogs. Finally. Now he'd achieved the minimum, he could stop stressing quite so hard. He gave a sigh, becoming less tense as he observed his kill. Of course, he'd still try his hardest: he wanted to impress the clan.
Next. He dug a small hole, tucking the frogs away inside. He lifted his nose to smell the air - plenty of prey was about, maybe the patrol had scared them out of hiding? He skulked through the trees, until he saw a single mouse. He never cared much for mice, they were very small, not exactly appetizing. It seemed other cats liked them, though. Either way, if he could add some more catches to his pile, he'd be proud. The tom nestled himself in the undergrowth, eyes glinting as he watched his prey.
