"Good," Mothflame gave a nod. She shifted her weight from paw to paw before beginning. "Before you start hunting your prey, always feel the breeze. It can affect your hunting skills, no matter how good or bad you are. If you smell something in the breeze," she tipped her head slightly skywards to scent the air. "It's that way. If you're not careful, sometimes the prey will scent you before you scent it. Careful about that. Now, try to focus. Can you smell anything in the breeze? Which way is it blowing?"

i rolled a die to see if he smelled it or not, got a 15)) Applepaw sniffed, crouching down carefully. "I smell a [insert which prey it is here XD]," He whispered. "And the wind is blowing that way." He twitched his tail, pointing the way the wind was blowing.

Mothflame let out a purr of approval. Applepaw was a natural.

"That's right. Now, they prey is that way," she pointed to the distance with her muzzle. "You can watch me, or follow me, I don't mind." She dropped into a hunter's crouch, and quickly located the squirrel. She turned back to Applepaw.

"You need to make sure you're careful about where you place your paws," she explained, voice a mere whisper, lifting a paw and setting it down infront of her. "If you're not careful, the prey might detect you. You need to be light as a feather." Her gaze focused back on the squirrel, and slowly crept towards it, each step slow and calculated. When she was close enough, she pounced powerfully, catching it in her claws and killing it with a swift bite. The squirrel now limp in her jaws, she turned back to Applepaw.

Applepaw crouched, and crept forward, but he tripped and crashed into a nearby tree, which would have scared away any prey left in the area. He got up and ran over to Mothflame. "Sorry!" He meowed. "I didn't mean to!"

Mothflame smiled, shaking her head, though it held no offense.

"That's quite alright. Everyone makes mistakes. Not all apprentices get everything right their first try. Now, try copying me. Your body should be as low as possibly, paws tucked underneath your belly, but your belly should not be exactly touching the ground," she dropped to a crouch, her paws tucking neatly under her belly, her tail barely above the ground. "Move as slowly as possible, make sure you're paying attention to your surroundings. Make no noise." The orange rosetted she-cat demonstrated by slowly yet smoothly creeping along the grass, her head lowered and her eyes (Or, eye, for the matter) searching the greenery for any signs of scuttling prey. After a few tail-lengths, she stopped and stood, turning to the red-furred tom.

"Try the crouch and stalking for now. We'll get to the pounce in a bit." She instructed.

Applepaw nodded happily, and copied the scarred she-cat, but his tail was perked up happily for most of the stalking practice. @Starphobia

Mothflame hummed at the apprentice's inexperienced crouch. She gave him a nod of her head.

"Good enough," she mewed. "Though, I advise keeping your tail low for the most part." She shifted her weight from paw to paw and shook her fur before, swiftly getting into a crouch and pouncing upon a falling leaf. She held the fragile green in her claws, turning back to Applepaw. "When you pounce, you have to push all your weight onto your hind legs, and propel yourself forward. But make sure you know where you land. What's a cat without being able to properly pounce?" The orange-furred warrior placed the leaf on the ground, gesturing at it with her tail. "Practice on this for now. I'd like to see you try multiple times. Only perfect practice makes perfect."
