Silent hollows | battle training

She always did believe mentors to be rather lacking, at least among the common warrior. None of warrior rank had ever been able to offer her adequate training even upon request; always too busy or no reaction, some would just stare at her and edge away she felt. Yellowtwist with the rank of guard had been an exception, and then came those who held the rank of enforcer, deputy and leader respectively, which made for all of her training. So it came as no surprise when these two, Hollowpaw and Silentpaw, lacked the ability to fight just as much - shocking, in fact, when her own sibling lacked that part of education. Sleepysunrise did not quite agree; it was an essential part to survival, and why she decided to take these three to the edges of camp (she should rather not stray far with many dangers and untrained apprentices on the lose) in order to begin their teachings. Turning around with an unsettling vibrant gaze resting upon the trio, she considered all of them for several moments; they seemed to be around the same age, bar one, she presumed their knowledge might be on par with each other, then.
"What do you know?"
Was her first question, a silent wondering in how far behind they exactly were and what they might be able or unable to apply to this lesson.

Silentpaw did not think much of a random training session. It happened, and he did not mind at all. It was useful, of course. And if he was being honest, he quite liked the extra training. What he didn't like, however, were questions. Questions that he could not answer with a shake of his head or a nod. Questions that required him to actually speak. And answer. It was dreadful. Not to mention, Sleepysunrise had decided to take ANOTHER apprentice. Great.

"Just a few front paw blows." He muttered, waving a paw in the air as to mimic the "move" Newtbelly had taught him.

➢ Black and white pelt following one of the same color, one much brighter (ugh), and another that was darker but without white. That was terrible to linger in the shadows with, Silentpaw....correct? Hollowpaw stays silent as she stays near the pair before stopping, she lingered in the rear and would remian there unless called upon.

The Apprentice lets the question trot through their mind like a deer in springtime searching for food. The Enforcer had been direct enough that it hadn't taken her long to process it in full. Hollowpaw's husky voice isn't above that of a whisper, "Nothing." Was that not obvious? They had begun training only a meeting ago, unlike that other pair. She had to be smaller than Silentpaw at the very least, Wispypaw on the other paw? Maybe they were the same size, Hollowpaw hadn't taken the time or energy to truly check. If they were sparing then that would be a later problem. she could evade them both if she had the disadvantage.

Why was it that they had to heavily rely on family to help with their training instead of their lazy mentor? Hell, not a single warrior in camp seemed remotely interested in giving them some training. Seemed only either family was willing to do so or some special rank cat, wasteful. That's okay, they'll rat them out to Grandma about their laziness. Those warriors might not want to put effort into helping the younger generation but they won't let it hold them back. Thank got they got most of their training done and this was one of the last ones they needed, how ironic. One better hope they hadn't hesitated to teach them just because they were blind, apparently their hunting wasn't proof enough that they weren't a liability. Wispypaw cringed when they recognized a certain scent nearby, uhh no thank you. Why did that silent menace have to be here, they'd rather it be just them and their sibling. "Nothing" was their simple reply, they hadn't been taught anything battle-related since their mentor had focused more on their other apprentice than their former one before vanishing.

A fresh batch, essentially. Sleepysunrise took a moment to blink after acknowledging Silentpaw's response with a subtle nod. There were some ways she could go about this, though with Silentpaw only knowing the front paw blow, she might as well start from the beginning. Well, this wasn't a beginner's class for nothing. She nodded to herself a stood, lowering into a well-practiced crouch with a wave of her tail and a glint within dull eyes;
"Watch."

She ordered the batch, her paw deftly cutting through the air and slamming into the ground, after which her other paw cut horizontally in a similar manner.
"Slam your paw down from above. On the head, back, across the face. Or swipe across any part, horizontally, claws unsheathed. Always keep moving. Move aside with a swift leap, a minute one. Don't let them too close when you're not ready."
She swiftly moved aside, showing a basic evasive manoeuvre in that manner before regaining her previous composure.
"Practice."
She told them; she didn't much mind whether it was on each other or nearby trees as long as they didn't get hurt.

Wispypaw

Wispypaw flicked their ears, listening to their older sibling speak it was the most they could do right now. They weren't exactly able to watch as per se but they could sure as hell could listen to instructions when given. Dark blue hazy gaze just blinked ahead as they listened to everything coming from Sleepy. It sounded easy to do nothing too difficult that even a kit could do at camp. They unsheathed their claws as they pawed for the nearest tree, they'd practice on the other apprentices, but one of them would feel personal. The other paw they had no idea about, they could take a guess and say they might be younger and they for sure didn't feel like being accused of bullying 'em. Yet second thoughts came to them as they thought about actually more in-depth. So they faced in the direction that hopefully Silentpaw was in, god so help them if they weren't doing so. "you, me, practice now" it for sure came out as a demand but they did at least try to phrase it as a request to be formal. Maybe they could use this as a way to on up the other apprentice and show how dumb they are compared to them if the other paw wanted to join, then it was on them if they got their ass kicked too by them.

Silentpaw listened to Sleepysunrise explain, watching her movements through deadpan eyes. Seemed simple enough. Nothing too drastically different from the stuff Newtbelly'd already taught him. He gave a single nod at Sleepsunrise's final word, flexing his claws for a moment before turning to Wispypaw, who'd looked in his direction. He flicked an ear. Looking them up and down for a heartbeat before looking in their cloudy eyes through his own slightly narrowed eyes. What did she want? When The dark-furred apprentice started speaking, almost demanding, he wanted to say no. He wanted so badly to say no, but that would not look good in Sleepysunrise or Hollowpaw's eyes, and in Wispypaw's, too. And publc imagery mattered to him.

The tabby tortoiseshell gave a small nod before realising Wispypaw couldn't even see him, for stars' sake. Thinning his lips, he turned his body to fully face Wispypaw.

"Mhm." He hummed, claws briefly digging into the ground. Hopefully that was loud enough for Wispypaw to hear. He then looked to Hollowpaw and gave the other apprentice a questioning look, jerking his head towards the apprentice in front of him. Not waiting for a response he instantly turned away, and with a single warning tap on the ground, he jumped at Wispypaw, paws aimed to hit her shoulder. For a second he'd considered going easy on her. She'd said that she hadn't learned anything about battle. But she'll never learn without the pressure, right?

➢ Hollowpaw was silent as she listened to Sleepysunrise explain the battle move. Blue and amber eyes locked onto the Enforcer's movements. Slam from above. Slash. Simple enough for Hollowpaw. She wasn't wishing to speak much so when the Enforcer followed up the demonstration, she was glad that Wispypaw called onto Silentpaw and not them. Though it did mean Hollow would have to practice with the Enforcer instead, she couldn't stay they weren't used to it. Hawkbite was their mentor after all.

The white and black shecat moves away from the practicing pair before swiftly turning away. Eyes finding Sleepysunrise before she whispered the question to her. "Can we practice? They broke off and there is an odd number of us Apprentices..." Outside of the question was Silentpaw's questioning glance. What was he thinking? What did he want from them? Had she done something to piss him off, surly not, right? Hollow sighs sharply, a venting of her hidden frustrations.

The youngest Apprentice mumbles the move to themself, voice drifting away in the wind. "Slam. Slash. Side-step." A shudder shakes the cat's body before they nod randomly, undirected at any party in particular, though she still waited for Sleepysunrise's answer. One didn't just go attack a clanmate unprovoked during training.

A tap on the ground seemed to be the only warning they got from the insufferable oaf in front of them, supposedly. They'd much rather it had been a bit realistic with the approach but this was training. All they had to do here was learn some moves and they could practice with someone on their own, or whoever caved into them. With a flare of their blind eyes, they pushed themselves away from Silentpaw before the blow could hit. A sniff from the air and angling their ears, they aimed a swipe of their own at Silentpaws head from the side. Their face was a mix of frustration and annoyance as they made the move, yet then again wasn't their face always set that way?

Sleepysunrise

Her eyes followed the movement between Silentpaw and her sister, watching them begin in the intricate dance, all the while Hollowpaw approached her. Sleepysunrise gave little response in first instance; she was occupied, watching the pair until their final move before shifting her gaze on Hollowpaw. She wasn't certain what to answer. She had expected they would all try on each other, but very well... Stepping back, she crouched. A silent response as such, but ready to receive Hollowpaw's attack. As she waited, she uttered some advice.
"You can take their scruff and shake, if you're tall. Or jump on their back to do the same. Jump off before they roll over. If you are beneath your opponent, rear up your back legs in front of your stomach. Claw at their belly."
A brief pause. She never quite remembered to take into account the following detail;
"Protect your vital areas. Your throat and stomach."
