Battle Basics

Ever so important. She could still recall her first lesson. And with the small group she was taking out, Seepysunrise had decided to begin in a similar manner; cover some defensive and offensive moves, then if they had time, move on to a brief spar for extra practice. But for starters, this was a mere introduction. A beginning. The true work would come after this lesson in applying their knowledge; usually, Sleepysunrise would take an apprentice hunting first, so they could provide for the clan as soon as possible. But Nightpaw was had the luck of early battle training session, alongside her brother and Palepaw, having called all three at sunrise to bring them just outside of camp and begin their lesson.

Nightpaw excitedly made his way over having heard that he would get to do some battle training today! This would be great! He couldn’t wait to learn how to fight properly. This was what would help most with his ambitions. Couldn’t become a great warrior without something to back that up with! Of course he knew it would take longer than just one lesson to actually become decent at fighting, these skills wouldn’t just come in the blink of an eye.

"I'm here." He declared, as if that wasn’t obvious already, curling his tail around his paws as he sat down.

Moonpaw

Moonpaw padded up to his half sister and Nightpaw with a cocky grin. Amber eyes sized up the younger apprentice, pleased to see that he was nothing but a pip squeak. Moon would have no trouble winning a battle against this one!

He looked to Sleepysunrise, blinking at her in greeting. "I'm ready for some beat downs!'

Palepaw

His pale blue eyes shot open. 'I'm forgetting something. Something I missed. What...was it?' The dilute calico kitten jumped to his paws in fright. Battle lesson! Palepaw raced out of the apprentice den. Oh dear. He had a lesson today! He ran as fast as he could, and skidded into spot with the others, gasping for air as he greeted the two apprentices. "He...llo! I'm...Pale..paww!"

"Sor..ry for a...rriving late!" He spoke catching his breath as he followed alongside the others as Sleepysunrise took them into the forest once more. He was definitely not prepared. Not mentally, not physically. His fur was sticking out in all sort of weird directions. Bed head. Oh whatever, it should flatten out as the day go on.

Nightpaw arrived promptly, then her brother and lastly Palepaw. Her eyes landed on the pale apprentice whom she gave a lengthy stare and a brief tilt of her head, the translation of which meant that she was still on time, before the enforcer’s unsettling gaze landed on Moonpaw.
”You will. If you do good. We practice on air first.”
She stated plainly, before taking a few steps back and expecting the group to know that they should line up.

She decided to take a page out of Yellowtwist’s book and begin with some individual attacks, moving up the difficulty as they went along. First came the most basic attack: and front paw blow and slash.
“You need to be alert, when you fight. Always ready to change your plan. To adapt. To use your environment. You can use the moves you were taught, but you need to get original. Adapt them to the situation or cat, or everyone can tell what you do before you do it. We’ll start simple. You can use your front paw to strike down on your enemy’s head, or slice across your opponent’s body.”

Sleepysunrise demonstrated both varieties; bringing one paw down in a mighty blow, while the second slices across the air where her opponent’s face would be.
“You can… Bite their legs, tail… Anything. Or bite and hold; take hold of the scruff and shake. That can disorient them. Similarly, you can leap on their back, and hold on.”
She leapt, pretending to land on one’s back.
“But they can drop and roll. You need to get off before.”
