As the large black tom finished cheering for Owltalon and Brokenstream, he couldn't help but revel in the fact that RiverClan suddenly felt complete. A proper medicine cat in Berryshine, a new apprentice for her in Cobwebfern. To say nothing of the new deputy and head Lionheart. Stormstar seemed to be moving quickly and decisively. He hoped her selections would go a long way to bringing respect back to their warrior ancestors and much needed security for their new camp. As Wavebreakers dark blue eyes surfed the crowd of cats he found himself grinning at the different reactions of those cats who were newly appointed to their positions. The warrior could almost soak up the pride oozing from Owltalon. Then there were others like Cobwebfern and Brokenstream who seemed genuinely taken aback once their names were called. Wavebreaker did not doubt they were grateful for the trust placed in them, but clearly their appointments were not fully anticipated.
Finally there was Rowanmane... The grizzled tom who seemed absorbed in the moment, but his expression seemed to convey resolve more than pride. The thought suddenly struck him that Kitepaw was now being trained by a Lionheart. I wonder if shes going to try to follow in her mentors footsteps? He hated to admit it, but his daughter didn't seem like the ambitious type. She was eager enough sure, but the speckled tomcat just couldn't see her pouring all her time and energy into a specific role like that. That thought hovered in his mind, bothering him, yet Wavebreaker couldn't really bring himself to push it aside. Why do I feel that way? Aren't parents supposed to have undying faith in their children? The image of his mother Ripplestep flooded his mind, her own blue eyes peering back at him listlessly.
He momentarily felt disgusted with the thought that he could have anything in common with her other than blood. His head panned reactively searching for Kitepaw, I should find her and give her my congrats. I'm sure shes excited too. However before he could locate her silvery dappled form the dark pitch of fur that was Stormstar began calling for kits to line up. Wavebreaker padded a little closer now distracted by purpose, at any moment Starrykit would be called up. He watched as her identifiable white-gray pelt rose atop her paws. Her bright blue eyes were wide, and it seemed to her future mentor that there was a glimmer beneath them which he hadn't ever seen before. The dark pelted warrior stood tall himself giving his fur a few quick licks to even out some stray hairs. The feline was growing ever more confident that Stormstar had made the right call, letting Starrykit apprentice early. It seemed to have given the kit some kind of spark, he would have to make sure to nurture that spark into a warm fire.
As he paid notice to his charge, Wavebreaker observed the grey pelt and light blue eyes of Wisteriawren approach the youngster. The former kittypet appeared to be encouraging the she-kit in her new upcoming role. He could feel warmth well up in his chest. I'm glad Starrykit has others to look after her. Even as he allowed himself to bask in the moment, he remained keenly aware of his promise to Stormstar. I'll need to speak with Wisteriawren after the ceremony, I'ts best if I take her to see her sister as soon as possible. The toms long spiral tail twitched as concern beset his previously warm demeanor. He figured the peace between the clans was tenuous at best, and if problems did resurface it would become harder to visit Elderkits grave. He had little time to consider it though, as before long Starrykits name was called and Wavebreaker found himself padding with his head forward ready touch noses proudly with his new apprentice.
Starrykit flinched for a moment. She had forgotten that she was supposed to touch noses with her new mentor, and she didn't know this cat at all. Despite that, something urged her to connect with this tom. She felt the invisible nudge of her beloved sister pushing her forward, and she did it. Wavebreaker's warmth reached her cold body, and she closed her eyes for a moment to picture Elderkit beside her. She would call her Starrypaw, from now on. She wondered whether her sister would have become an apprentice together with her. Starrykit moved her lips to feel the uncoming name on her tongue. Elderpaw. It sounded so... hopeful. A shiny tear streamed down Starrypaw's closed eye. It glimmered in the whole clearing, and for a moment she felt herself in another world. Silence enveloped her and made Wisteriawren and Wavebreaker foggy, while Elderkit's image lingered in front of her.
Fighting, hmm? Well, that was something at least. It seemed his former mentor had given him some training before abandoning it or going missing or dying. She briefly wondered which one it was, but decided against asking Grimpaw. She didn't need to know that. "Anything else?" Irisfrost asked absentmindedly, already thinking about what she would teach him first. Probably not a territory tour, since she didn't know the new areas yet. Maybe hunting, either land or water. That was, in her mind, the most important skill a warrior needed. Knowing how to fight was good, but there wasn't a battle everyday. Everyone needed to eat.
(I can post a starter for Grimpaw's training if you like! Public or private?)
"Not much else really." Grimpaw responded lightly.
(Private please!)
Kitepaw blinked, her mentor was a Lionheart now?! She took a deep breath to try and steady herself, but it just felt like rattling. She scrambled to chant the names of her clanmates successes, eyes glancing around distractedly. She had originally intended on locating her mentor and congratulating him before the meeting was dismissed and he was swamped by other cats wanting to do the same, but then her eyes glazed over a different site…and it made her freeze. Along the edge of the camp, carefully tucked into the shadows, was a cat who looked…eerily like her mother. Kitepaw slowly brought her gaze back to that cat now, staring at her intensely. Something’s…off.
Then suddenly, it struck her like lightning. Kitepaw hadn’t realized because things had been so hectic, but she hadn’t really seen Irisdream since the dog fight. Well, she’s scented her around and seen traces of her fleeting image, but she hadn’t really laid eyes on her. And perhaps now she knew why. Even if Kitepaw had seen her mother, it was unlikely she would have recognized her immediately. The pale she-cat was missing an ear now, with scars healing on her face. Injuries she no doubt received at the paw of a dog.
Not wanting to alarm her clanmates or make a fool of herself like Rainpaw and Riftpaw, Kitepaw shot her eyes back to Stormstar. Sitting stiffly, forcing her fur flat, scarcely daring to breathe, she watched the announcements in silence. She needed to get to her father now. They needed to check on Irisdream as soon as the meeting was over. But…but Papa has an apprentice now of his own! Surely she couldn’t interrupt them in their special moment! But this was too important, her father will understand. Crouching so as to make as little disruption as possible, Kitepaw slinked over to her father’s side. She touched her nose to his shoulder in a warm gesture, hoping that acting like she was only moving during the meeting to congratulate him would keep her from getting into trouble.
“Congratulations, Papa.” She murmured, looking down at Starrypaw and smiling. “We’re denmates now, Starrypaw. My name is Kitepaw.” She introduced herself, careful to keep her voice low so as not to disturb others as she flicked her tail in greeting to the younger cat. Though her words and warm smile and gestures were genuine, she could barely keep her breathing straight and the panic from her eyes. She looked up at her father now, silently praying that he would recognize the very real distress in her eyes so she could draw his attention to the issue. And then we can rush to her side when the meeting is dismissed. Like a family should. No matter what her mother thought of her, Kitepaw was fiercely determined not to let this family collapse and fall apart around her.
...Yeah, Drizzlepaw was definitely deaf. Stormstar's eyes flickered to Adds - who looked mightly pleased with herself, of course. She hoped she wasn't wrong in giving the headstrong warrior both of them, and that they could be trained together as siblings. Maybe Rosemarypaw could even help come up with some paw signs or something. Truthfully, the RiverClan leader didn't know the first thing about it, but there was always something new to learn.
Lifting her tail for silence once more, the gray-furred RiverClan leader gathered her thoughts. "Alongside Soarin'paw, we've also got a couple other new outsiders joinin' us. Bravekit [ @Bugabaddie ] is one of 'em - queens, he'll be your shared responsibility. 'N we also got Fireglow [ @Goopysharkboi ] as a new warrior. Vixenflame [ @Nim ], I want you makin' sure her skills are up to par. Swimmin', fightin'. After a moon I want a report on how she's doin', 'n we'll set up a final assessment." She gave a nod to the warrior and glanced at Fireglow, before moving on.
"One situation I wanna make sure you're all aware of; upon returnin' from the Starcave I was made aware of an incident involvin' Strongstorm. Somethin' about threats to a 'paw. He made it clear he's got no care for RiverClan or the kids, so he was renamed Weakkit 'n exiled from RiverClan." There was a lot more to that story, specifically the crazed look he'd had before Stormstar had driven him from the Clan, but she didn't need to beat a dead horse. "If you see him on the territory, he's to be chased off immediately - 'n if it's between his life 'n yours, I value the lives of my Clanmates more than a no-good crow-food exile." What a waste of a cat; she hoped she never saw him again.
Stormstar cleared her throat once again. "Movin' on - the fight to secure the camp from the dogs that used to roam here went good. Everyone put up a good fight, 'n it's thanks to you that we've got this new camp." A few bangs and bruises here and there, but nothing that was too bad. "For those of you that weren't there, Skyfall come back after bein' exiled, tryin' to spew a bunch of crow-food 'bout "rainin' hell down on RiverClan". He ended up... killin' Crowglow before I could get to him 'n put him down..." A brief moment as the leader glanced up at the sky, hopeful that the tom had found peace among the stars. "While Skyfall isn't a threat anymore, I want every cat vigilant out in the territory, 'n a reminder that apprentices are not allowed out by themselves. 'S for your own safety."
Swallowing hard as she realized next up was the news of the otters in their rivers, Stormstar pressed her paws against the stone she stood on for extra stability. ...Crowglow isn't the only death we've had in the last moon... Before the move to our new camp I took a patrol out to Smallpines to deal with the otters in the river. They pose a threat to the fish we can catch, so I wanted 'em gone. No one as far as I know has ever fought against otters, or really seen 'em in the rivers. That patrol consisted of myself, Larkwing, Catfishwhisker, Floodsight... Jayfrost, 'n Mudsmoke." Stormstar paused to make sure her voice didn't waver, but her whiskers still gave away the grief in her heart. "...We lost Mudsmoke to 'em, 'n Jayfrost... must've gotten swept downstream." A friend, gone just like that... "Floodsight 'n I searched for him, but there was... nothin'." Whatever had become of the tom... no, she couldn't even entertain the thought.
"I'll be holdin' a vigil tonight for Crowglow, Mudsmoke, 'n... 'n Jayfrost at our new gravesite that Owltalon 'n Foxleap found. Anyone is welcome to join barrin' kits." Her throat felt tight as she tried to force the words out, knowing that succumbing to her grief was not what the Clan needed right now. "Those otters are not to be messed with. I don't want any cats goin' out alone to Smallpines, 'n mentors when you're takin' your apprentices there stay at least four tail-lengths back from the bank. Those who don't follow this can expect a moon spent demoted 'n confined to camp." Hopefully her Clan would listen and understand the danger these creatures posed.
"Once I speak with our elders, I'll be figurin' out another way to get 'em out of the water to they don't keep eatin' the fish 'n take another patrol to properly deal with 'em. I'll not be allowin' apprentices on this patrol, so don't even think about askin'." She knew she had a few headstrong 'paws that would likely try to volunteer; this would hopefully curb that. Blue eyes gazed over the Clan, knowing that reactions to the death of these warriors would likely be intense. Both of them were good and well-known; the grief would likely be shared amongst the whole Clan.

Minkkit shuddered. Those otters sounded scary, and he wasn't going out any time soon.

Fishleap watched from the side, worried for their leader. What if she went crazy? Fishleap ducked away into the warriors den.
Something about how Stormstar looked at Adderstrike made her weaver in her cheerful mood. It was hard to tell but she thought she saw doubt in those eyes. Why given her two apprentices then? She hoped this wouldn't continue on, honestly she thought Stormstar like her just a little. High ranks were always strange it seemed. She decided to look to her apprentice instead of dwelling on these types of thoughts. Drizzlepaw, Drizzlepaw... This was going to be a tough one but she was faithful in her own abilities. She was going to teach this cat to be able to defend themselves, to hunt and aid the clan. This was her promise to them.
Then there was the mention of otters and trying to deal with them. Adderstrike looked up and hoped that she would be able to join in getting rid of those river rats once they figured out how to get rid of them. She had to protect all her apprentices and getting rid of otters would be a mighty fine way of doing it.
Willowtail nodded to Stormstar's words. Agreeing with them and looking around as cats were mentioned and such.

A kit, an apprentice, and a warrior joined the clan. It was kind of funny how Riverclan got 1 of each. Though their smile didn't last long as Stormstar continued. Strongstorm. They really didn't even know what in the world was even happening at the time but it was now that realize the warrior had been threatening a literal child. Do some cats just don't have a single thought of why they probably shouldn't that?? Argueing with another warrior was one thing, but threatening an apprentice was a whole other. If Strongstorm- err..Weakkit now..he was making threats to a kid so now he has a name associated with a kid- is willing to say those things, who knows what else he could've done to his other clanmates. That was one of the crime that's harder to forgive, even with a cat like Sunsetgleam; they've already had an incident in the past -..was is when they were an apprentice? There was..an elder..who didn't care for kits? Was that it? A miracle they even remember after moons. And it seems like Stormstar isn't going to forgive Weakkit any time soon either
Most of the time these cats seem driven by anger or malice. Sometimes they wonder; how do these cats even make it to warriorhood without getting exiled or demoted beforehand? Had they changed their attitude after their warrior ceremony? Did they feel more surperior than other cats just because they were now a warrior? They wanted to see what was actually going on in their mind. Or maybe it was better not to know..
Stormstar was pretty quick to move on; the next things announced was things they already knew before the meeting. They lost Crowglow..and a cat named Fireglow joined. It was odd how those two had the same suffix. Skyfall; A murderer that got murdered. That's usually how it goes in the clan if a murderer had been discovered. Either that or exiled but Skyfall didn't leave when Stormstar told him to. And he even changed his name to Doomsday. Which is a weird name. They did care a little bit but did he expect the leader to care? That was another cat where they had to wonder what was going in the mind prior to this..cats are..weird. If all cats could just obey rules and stop trying to kill each other then that'd gonna make things more peaceful. But of course, the clan wasn't allowed to have peace. Ever. A fact they've figured for a while now. It's hard to maintain any sort of peace with each other; or even with themself.
Even more death. The otters killed Mudsmoke. And..Jayfrost got swept away, even after a search he was no where to be seen. 3 deaths in such a short period of time. The twinge of grief in Stormstar must've meant she was close to one of them and it showed the more the she talked. They weren't exactly close to any of those cats but they knew the names of Mudsmoke and Jayfrost. And they were pretty sure most riverclanners knew those two as well
