Daffodilpaw raced onto the the Sky Glade, slowing down to allow Owlscreech to catch up. In her impatience, she ran a little faster than she had intended. The choking stench of smoke hit the back of her mouth immediately. Coughing, Daffodilpaw’s sharp eyes caught sight of the fires. Her pale eyes widened in fear, pelt spiking. But thankfully, it seemed to still be early. Just as the medicine cat had said.

“Owlscreech!” The pale yellow apprentice waved her tail to get the warrior’s attention, pointing with a paw to where the fire was starting.

Owlscreech skidded to a halt beside the apprentice. "Dont go any further." she meowed, her eyes took in the fire all around. Her owl like eyes widen even bigger at the sight. "We should probably take a look....but I dont want to risk your life or mind. Let's head back to Twilightstar and Dusklion and report back to what we saw. They'll let us know what to do next. Understood?" she asked, turning her gaze away from the fire and on Daffodilpaw.

Daffodilpaw nodded, looking at Owlscreech before her eyes were torn back to the sparking fire. Urgency crawled through her pelt like ants swarming on her skin. She needed to move, quickly! With all the speed she could muster! "Okay! I promise I won't get close to the fire!" She vowed, nodding her head dutifully. But I can't promise you won't get left behind! The pale yellow she-cat lifted her weight off her forepaws and turned on her hindlegs, pointing back to camp. Daffodilpaw put strength into her back legs and flung herself into a full sprint, heading for camp.

Even as the young tom began scenting the air for prey, Dapplebreeze imitated him, her own mouth open as she tasted the hints lurking within the breeze. There was ample prey in the glade, with mice and shrew - this one was surprising, they were much more fond of the falls and the grove - easily scented, along with precisely what they were here for. True to form, Birchpaw did not disappoint, and the patched warrior purred in approval. Despite his lack of practice with this particular prey, she knew her young apprentice was studious, and wondered how he would fare putting in practice what she had just taught him. With the prey pile being filled to the brim when they had left, there was no stress in catching a rabbit on the first try. But then, some paws were just better after they had witnessed someone's attempt first. Blinking reassuringly to let the dear know that he wasn't forced to choose one over the other, the molly spoke.

"Right you are, my darling. Now, rabbits, as I told you, are swift to flee to their burrows. Usually they are in numbers, and from my experience teamwork tends to work extremely well when it comes to hunting them, as it means multiple rabbits can be obtained from a single hunt. In fact, a well seasoned warrior might be able to nab two rabbits if they are lucky in a solitary hunt as well, but that's getting quite ahead of ourselves, isn't it, my dear?" the former queen mewed, blue eyes regaining some shine as a soft, delicate trill of laughter escaped her before continuing.

"But that's quite enough of that, isn't it? I believe that for our lesson here today, we will try some solo hunting, what do you say? As pleasant as teamwork is, I do believe it is best to hone one's skill before attempting to combine said skills with another's. So tell me, Birchpaw. How would you like to tackle this? Perhaps throw caution to the wind and test your mettle? Take what you have learned today and try and piece together your own plan of action? Maybe a recap? A small explanation provided of how best to tackle these critters before you try your paw at them? Or a demonstration is potentially your preferred method of learning? All excellent options, my dear. We are here for your prosperity."

Dapplebreeze had never been happier that she paid attention to the going ons of camp during emergencies more than now. Paws built for running across the flat lands of the moors, the fury lead Vinepaw with urgency, following the guidelines Owlscreech and Daffodilpaw had so diligently reported. It seemed they had time, too! The fire was nothing like the inferno that had destroyed their home moons past. Stars... how long had that been now? More than a full season's cycle already, for certain. Why, young Lightningstorm had been but a mere, new apprentice... and look at her now. A fully grown medicine cat with a litter of her own.

The patched molly could feel the blood roaring in her ears, the need to begin now, to halt the spread of the all consuming flames coaxing her forward. With a mild, demure smile of encouragement, she turned to Vinepaw, twitching her tail for him to follow after her. She had no intention of telling him how to dig this trench. True. All furies were mandated to cover tunneling basics. To have some knowledge of WindClan's undisclosed specialty. But Vinepaw was a tunneler's apprentice. He had much more experience and expertise on the matter than she ever hoped to accomplish. That said, they needed to come up with a plan, and fast... so might as well share her own ideas and begin work once they had settled on a solution, the quicker the better.

"Remember, my dear. We are here to build a trench around the flames and to keep a distance. We want to keep them back as much we can, but getting hurt in the process helps no one. Now... let us begin at opposite ends and meet up before adding as second layer of width. Does that sound quite alright to you?" she asked, paws itching to get to work, beginning their digging work the moment her and Vinepaw had settled on how to best tackle the smoldering menace.

Vinepaw hesitated a while, attempting to comprehend Dapplebreeze's plan. His voice became a little more steady as he continued, "It sounds like a good start." "However, what if the fire spreads more quickly than anticipated? Perhaps, just in case, we ought to excavate a little bit farther than anticipated? He gave her a serious look, hoping she would notice his anxiety. "If we start off with a bigger trench, we could have more time to respond in the event that the flames shift. Be safe rather than sorry, please. "And if we can gather some stones or dirt to reinforce the edges, that might help keep the fire at bay," he continued as he dug once more. Merely a notion! His ideas felt a little more confident, and he was appreciative of dapplebreeze.

Nightfall rushed instantly to the waterfalls of the moor, the Twilight Falls. But panic threatened to grasp him, now that the adrenaline of the run was starting to wash off and he didn't know what to do.

The fire... the firestorm that was killing them!My family! Run, run, my kits! Run!
Voices kept screaming in Nightfall's mind, and he was fighting hard to resist them. Now he needed to focus. To save his clan, not to be saved. This was the first time he'd been given such an important task, and he was determined to finish it.

He saw Dapplebreeze and Vinepaw creating something with earth and sand, but he wasn't quite acquainted with those... creations. Was this the time to explain things?

He halted frantically in front of the deputy. Yes, he would know what to do!

"Crowtooth, here I am! What do we ought to do to stop this chaos?"

The former queen tilted her head questioningly as Vinepaw began speaking, wondering just how close to the flames the apprentice thought she had meant when she stated they should keep their distance. Nowhere near prideful enough to begin a petty argument over semantics, however, she merely smiled, nodding. As long as they were of the same mind, she cared not how the apprentice assumed they had reached said conclusion. Especially considering how anxious the young tom seemed. She had her reservations, however, concerning starting too wide too quickly. Dapplebreeze preferred trapping the fire first and perfecting its prison second, but if he was determined to go for a wider trench, then that was what they would go for. He was the better digger, after all.

"Very well, my dear," she mewed delicately as she joined him, placing herself between the flames and the apprentice. "But if width is what you believe we should focus on, then allow me to join you. Side by side. Two sets of paws will work faster than one."

Will move forward acknowledging Nightfall once Crowtooth's response comes through. |

He ran alongside Hawkfur and Crowtooth, legs pumping as he moved swiftly with the two warriors. Skidding to a halt as he spotted the fire and his mentor and Vinepaw working diligently, he would turn to look at the deputy.

"Where do you need me, Crowtooth?" He asked. He pushed his fear to the side. His clan needed him to be brave. And so he would be.

Power Card: Cold Gust

The suppressor group of Dapplebreeze and Vinepaw had been at the fire for a bit by the time Crowtooths group arrived, laden with soaked moss and pelts to directly combat the blaze. With their efforts thankfully the fire had remained camp fire esque in size, unable to grow and spread uncontrollably with no fuel to consume. It meant it could still be put out, snuffed by water and dirt, and Crowtooth immediately set his group to do so.


"Hawkfur, Birchpaw! We'll work our way in from the outside! Im gonna start wit' dirt an' reserve my moss an' water just in case but if ya wanna toss immediately ta get the flames down enough ta work I aint gonna fault ya!"
The fire was.... louder then Crowtooth had ever expected, the crackling and roaring of the flames flattening the toms ears with how grating it was.


The there was the suppressor group and the deputy forced a grin, as strained as it was, trying to reassure the cats. "Nice work ya'll but ya aint done. I need ya ta keep goin' on the trench in case this mess flares or somethin'. I might call on ya ta run to the falls fer more soaked moss but remember ta stay back, ya'll dont have the water buffer we do." So their pelts could catch and go up in flames just as easily as the grass around them. A horrifying thought, and one the tom much less wanted to see at all.



Said tom was just about to turn to start his work on the fire with Birchpaw and Hawkfur when a voice nearly caused him to jump out of his fur, Crowtooth whipping around to stare at the newcomer. What the hell was Nightfall doing here?! The shock quickly turned to anger however, and a snarl spread over the toms face. "Wha-What the hell are ya doin' here?! First ya dont reply or come when called, an' now yer suddenly here ready ta help?!! I dismissed ya fer Birchpaw when ya proved unrelyable, Birchpaw who, has already done his part ta help!!

Why the hell are ya outta camp?! I know good an' damn well that neither Twi or Lightnin'storm would permit ya out so did ya leave on yer own without permission despite EXPLICIT orders fer all but those allowed ta stay in camp?!?!?

No, no I dont wanna hear ANYTHIN' from ya. Ya've proven unreliable an' disobedient an' I dont need nor want a cat like that in such a dangerous role, I dont trust ya ta be useful. Go back ta camp, NOW an' try an' be useful there fer starclans sake. GO!"
Crowtooth was going to rip Nightfall to shreds for this stunt of just appearing next to the fire with no instructions to do so like his decisions were at all reliable or an authority here. That was if the other high ranks didnt do so first. He'd love to say more really but the fire was far more important then Nightfall so instead he turned to start tossing dirt over it, jerking his head at Dapplebreeze in a silent order to handle Nightfall if he remained an issue.
