The tom seemed surprised at the next question. "Yes sir, I intend on protecting her even if that means I have to die. I intend to take care of her to the best of my ability. If she is hungry, I will bring her prey from the fresh-kill pile. If she is cold, I will move closer to her so that she is warm." He continued looking the much older tom in the eyes.
"And if you really would like, sir. I'd like to help you, too. If you ever need something I'd be more than happy to bring it to you. I'd even lay my life on the line for you, as well. Though you are definitely more experienced than I am, I would still do so."
With that, Nightshadepelt glanced over to Willowtail. His eyes flickered back to Stagheart's gaze. He didn't exactly know what the older tom was thinking. He tried to calm his nerves the best he could, so he put on a soft smile. He hoped the smile would quell any suspicion that might be brewing.
Willowtail gave a gentle nod of engouragment to her mate as he glanced at her, her heart warming a bit at his words and at Stagheart's protective stance. Willowtail felt the need to seprate them, but they were toms. So she'd rather let them handle it themselves. Probably easier for both parties.

— STAGHEART —
very large, muscular, & scarred light brown tabby tom with stark blue eyes and a torn ear; killer aptitude 3 | just a scratch
[ riverclan warrior | tomcat | 53 moons | gruff & battle-hardened, yet thoughtful; loyal to a fault ]
—
Stagheart let out a low hum of acknowledgement as Nightshadepelt answered respectably and firmly, even giving good examples of what he'd do. The large older warrior started to nod slowly, clearly looking a bit more pleased on his stoic face. Even a bit of surprise, as Willowtail's mate offered to lay his own life down on the line for Stag too. Alright... as long as this warrior wasn't just all talk, maybe Willowtail had made a good choice after all. This certainly looked promising.
Stagheart let a few more beats of tense silence pass before a small smirk cracked his maw and he let out a low, short chuckle. "Mmm... alright. I like ya so far, kid," he finally meowed to ease the tension (calling just about any cat younger than him 'kid'), flicking his tail as he loosened up his protective stance. "I'll remember what ya said 'bout takin' care of her, 'n the rest... don't think I won't," he added warningly, though it was more lighthearted than a threat. Still, he meant it, of course.
He glanced at Willowtail, seeing the appreciation and endearment shining in her eyes, a small smile tugging on his maw. His tone was a tad softer as he directly addressed his adoptive daughter, although he spoke for both of them. "Y'seem happy, both of ya — 'n I'm happy for you too, Willowtail. You two be careful 'n take care of each other, y'hear? It's tough out here, 'specially after all RiverClan's been through... we need good hearts like yours more than ever."
Stag turned back to Nightshadepelt directly, and added in a lower tone, "...And if you hurt her... well, just don't hurt her, how's that?" He mused with a slightly crooked smirk from the veiled 'threat' of sorts.
It was mostly a truthful and slightly-joking warning, though this was also how Stagheart showed some approval: if he thought well enough of a warrior, especially toms, he'd add a little challenge in his expectations. Nightshadepelt seemed promising... Stag didn't doubt that he could pull through. But he wouldn't let the tom off that easy, right? Fatherly expectations had to be a little intimidating to be effective, and that was the goal. And it seemed like Nightshadepelt would be up to the task.

Willowtail watched, letting Stagheart do his fatherly thing. Willowtail purred gently, her whiskers twitching in amusement as she noticed his tone getting softer as he spoke to her. "Of course, who'll remind the furball to get rid of the moss in the morning. " Willowtail teasingly added, flicking her mates shoulder with her tail to let him know, no hard feelings. Willowtail purred, putting her muzzle against Stagheart's shoulder to show her gratitude. "Thank you....... it felt really good that you did that." Willowtail mewed quietly, her eyes shining with meaning. Willowtail never having a father present, had always raved in her mind and sometimes to her brother, about how she would struggle to find a mate as she would have no father to approve of the Tom. But Stagheart filling that place, honestly made her emotion. Willowtail's blue hues gleamed with hapinnes. "Why am I crying" She scolded herself gently

"I will do my best not to hurt her, sir." He offered with a soft smile, before turning to Willowtail. "Oh dear, don't cry." He made his way closer to his mate, gently nudging her. "You cryin' of happiness or of sadness?" He reassuringly licked her cheek, wrapping his tail around her.

Stagheart smiled a bit and nodded to Willowtail as she touched her muzzle to his in gratitude, her blue eyes gleaming with emotion and happiness. "Of course... I'm here for ya, y'know that."
Then he saw her eyes getting... wet? Oh, stars, she was crying. Stagheart had never been good with emotion. But she seemed so happy otherwise... was this a good type of crying, then? He was much less familiar with those. "You, uh, alright kid...?"
But Nightshadepelt was already on the move, comforting her. Stagheart nodded, feeling slight approval in how quick the tom responded and asked the same question that he himself had been asking. He smirked a bit as he saw them together, feeling a little bit of warmth settle in his chest. To know that Willowtail would be taken care of by someone who was apparently so loving and thoughtful, at least from his initial introduction... it felt good. As good as if Willowtail was truly his flesh-and-blood kit.

Willowtail gave a gentle sniff, nodding to Stagheart, "I don't know what I'm crying about" Willowtail laughed, sniffling gently. She pressed her muzzle to Nightshadepelt's to let him know she was ok. "I'm fine. Happy tears" She reassured him gently, feeling his tail around her she put her weirdly long tail over his for a moment, a good bit of her tail just lolling on the ground while the rest of it hung around her mates.
