RiverClan was, at long last, returning to their home. Irisdream sat nearby the abandoned Twoleg nest where they made temporary camp, sitting by the water and watching the clouds float peacefully by.
Everything is so quiet. She observed. You'd never think that the clans had been through everything they've gone through. That RiverClan had been displaced and was now able to return to their home territory.
Kitepaw will have her warrior ceremony under the same skies I did now. Thinking of her daughter brought a small sigh from her chest. Where had she gone wrong with her? She had wanted to be
different from her mother, but somehow she had managed to be no different. Kitepaw was an anxious mess, and pressured herself almost as much as Irisdream did herself.
She had hoped break the cycle with her, but it seemed that task has now fallen to Kitepaw.
But maybe I can still repair our
relationship. Irisdream was resolute to at least develop a close bond with her daughter. Maybe talk to her one day about Pebblestorm. Thinking about her own mother made her lips twitch in temptation to snarl and her fur bristle. She would never say that she
hated anycat. But if ever she was to hate a cat, it would be Pebblestorm. Irisdream lifted her head to the sky and closed her deep, dark blue eyes, taking a deep breath as she forced her heart rate to slow and her fur to lie flat.
Compose yourself Irisdream. Calm... She was too close to the camp to lose her cool, it was uncouth for a she-cat to act that way.
Slowly, as she felt her heart return to a calm rhythm, she reopened her eyes. She felt peace come over her like a wave as she saw the clouds once more float peacefully in the sky. They lacked the cares and burdens of those who looked up at them, but somehow she was able to find some sense of content watching them. Even though she was still within the area of the temporary camp, she felt her posture relax, her tail resting lazily beside her, as if a great tension had been released from her muscles in a singular exhale.
Just a moment longer... She decided. She would stay here just a little while longer before rejoining her clanmates.
