Acornfall raced over the last few pawsteps to Sparrowpelt when he heard his name, carrying his mouse and 2 squirrels. He nodded to Sparrowpelt to indicate he was ready to return to the camp when they were.
It wasn't often Wolfhive approached this border - he'd been a sickly apprentice when much of the Sunkissed Creek fighting had gone down, and tensions had simmered down considerably since.
The fallen tree was always the worst part. It shifted to a side as Wolfhive crossed it, causing the fur of his spine to rise in alarm. The scar in the earth beneath him was one hell of a fall, and he could see the sun bleached bones of unlucky fallen animals.
Once across, the first thing Wolfhive did was check for any oddities. ShadowClan's scent wasn't too recent, but it was there; in comparison to RiverClan it came off as more casual which Wolfhive appreciated. The less stinky assness of a border, the better! One didn't need to saturate it in order to get a point across.
He began to mark his side of the border, a simple scent refresher.

"Great job!" Sparrowpelt would cheer for the apprentice before going quiet again and signaling for drop her prey in the hole he quickly dug. "We'll keep them here for now and circle around to grab them later, okay?" He spoke, gesturing for her to follow close to him. "Alright, don't stray too far, but go track down another piece of prey and meet me back at our prey hole. We have to go find Acornfall afterwards," Sparrowpelt instructed quietly before stalking off into the underbrush. His ears would continuously flicker towards Snowpaw's direction in case she needed something and to make sure she's okay.
...
Sparrowpelt was quick to stalk down another mouse, followed swiftly by a vole. Both catches were quick and clean, his skilled paws working quickly to finish his hunt. He refused to come back with just a mere mouse, training Snowpaw or not.
When the large warrior circled back to where they buried their prey, his gaze swept the area for her. He made sure his figure wasn't hidden, and that he was easily seen in case she got a little lost. Her scent gave away that she was fairly close the whole time, which put his mind at ease.
"Acornfall, on me!" The warrior would call into the trees. Surely, the other warrior wasn't too far. Their initial meeting spot wasn't too far away, maybe a few trees.

"Okay!" Snowpaw responded. There was no way she was going to get in trouble in her first patrol ever! She would follow directions and do everything. She watched Sparrowpelt walk away. She glanced around uncertainly, then opened her mouth to try to catch some prey-scent. She caught the scent of another mouse, much to her delight. She followed it, attempting the crouch that she had learned only moments before. There! She could see it now. She tensed, excited, and leaped, but the mouse had heard her. She hadn't been stealthy enough, when she got excited she had not been aware of the crunchy leaves underpaw. She glanced down, realizing this.
"Awh..." she said, disappointed. But at least she had caught one mouse! She glanced back. It looked like it was time to leave. She bounded over to the group. "I almost caught another mouse!" She announced. But rather than being unhappy, she was happy. It was her first time, and she had caught something! That was amazing! Her eyes lit up. "I could smell it, and I followed it with the crouch you taught me, but I got too excited and it got scared away! But now I know I have to be more aware," she meowed. She was eager to share all that had happened. "Wasn't that cool? I love learning!" She scooped up the mouse she had caught, which effectively shut her up. She couldn't talk while holding prey, disappointingly. She'd just have to wait to get back to camp to tell her friends about it!

Shaking her sleek black head and chuckling in response to her apprentice's bizarre line of questioning, Lavendersong flashed her newfound friend an exasperated look back that silently replied with 'See what I gotta deal with?' Before she glanced back at Creepingpaw as the three of them stood on their paws and began treading the clan boarder towards Thunderglade.
"If you do try it, I'll see to it that your name is changed to Glowingbelly at your ceremony." Lavendersong teased, her laughter ringing like a melodious chime. Creepingpaw rolled his eyes and shook his head, refusing to admit that his mentor's retort was funny even in the slightest.
The trio approached the vast sea of tallgrass that blanketed the fields with smaller trees scattered throughout. Marking the boarder between WindClan and ThunderClan, the tall tree line stood towering over the smaller trees below. Lavendersong pointed her nose towards the earth, then lifted her maw to the sky in an attempt to sniff out scent markings. The likelihood of running into a WindClan cat disrespecting the territory line by crossing over is low, but Creepingpaw hoped otherwise. His lean muscles rippled under his speckled pelt as his vivid green eyes scanned the surrounding area, the green pools of his gaze yearning for violence.
[ Ongoing roleplay takes place before the ThunderClan Lockdown. YIKES I forgot about this until now, that’s my bad, but !! there’s only 1 more border so I figured why not speedrun it… so you can get the requirement done. ]
”Glowingbelly.” Shockhoney snickered as they went along. That would be funny, wouldn’t it? Anyway, for the sake of getting this reply over with, Shockhoney’s mentor had her character’s pace quickening as she led them to the ThunderClan-ShadowClan border, aka Herondrive Hollow, aka it smells terrible here.
“Tadaaa. This is our…” she paused to think. “Second-last stop!” Yeah, she was starting to become antsy to get this over with now.
the next cat rookfire selected to accompany him on an unofficial patrol was firepaw and also the first that made sense in his mind. new apprentice, outsider from what he had gathered, so they were pretty much the idea cat especially as suspicion nipped at rooks conscious. at least they werent of riverclan origin, which was a plus and one of the reasons rookfire had mentally agreed with himself about taking them for a border patrol of all things in the first place. "you havent been shown around i assume?" rookfire guessed out of the blue, barely turning to look at the apprentice and instead appearing to be entirely focussed forward as the two approached herondive hollow. the forest growing thicker and darker around them, even by shadowclan standards, was noticable after passing through generously light dappled stretches of land before. now swallowed by mostly shade, rookfire had slowed down naturally whilst steps got lighter the closer they got to the border. eventually, they stepped through the last bit of undergrowth seperating them from laying eyes on the creek parting shadowclan and thunderclan land.
"this is our border with thunderclan. you can probably find a few herbs here but overall, its not an ideal place for hunting or gathering." rookfire nodded at the creek in front of them as if that would explain anything more specific, before turning to walk alongside the stream. "too much effort for me personally, especially if i have access to evergreen grotto or dawning woods." he added after a moment, giving a half hearted shrug at the sight of mostly dry soil beneath their paws.
"border patrols are pretty simple as long as you align with the standard. you scout out the area, mark the border, just overall make sure the others, in this case thunderclan, dont get the idea to cross over and everything is lookin' normal." he supressed a yawn, before straightening to full height again to glance around the greenery on shadowclan side. "if anythin' looks off, safety should be your first concern until ya can fight properly. if its a predator, i'd always say retreat and get help, if its a different clan cat here you should make sure there is a warrior with you before making 'em aware of your presence." it would be ideal of firepaw never found out rookfire had never actually been taught any of this and was pretty much making it up along the way, going by what he thought were good choices mostly. "finally, if its a patrol mistlewhisker sends out officially, the patrol leader reports once youre back at camp. if its something like this, you only report if anything seems off or something happened."

Firepaw trotted happily behind Rookfire as the enforecer made his way to the Thunderclan border, the unfamilar smell of the other clan slowly filling Firepaw's nostrils, getting stronguer as they walked. It wasnt an unpleasant smell, but she definetly prefered Shadowclan's, scent the apprentice only paid attention to once it started growing fainter as they got closer to the Herondive Hollow, being slowly replaced by Thunderclan's. Firepaw smiled a bit to herself, it seemed her nose was getting accustomed to Shadowclan, so much so that its scent was starting to become "background noise" to it. A little step closer to making the clan her true home.
It was a small victory, a silly one even, but a victory nontheless, and she would gladly take it.
But she had to focus, now she was travelling across Shadowclan's borders, an even bigger victory towards getting to fit in in her clan, and not a silly one at all, remembering where this was and what to do in case something strange happened could be extremelly important if Thunderclan decided to start a conflict with Shadowclan or the other way around. When Rookfire had approached her about joining a border patrol, she barely took half a second to agree to go, so much so that she now wondered if her enthusiasm was maybe too aparent, but she couldnt blame her past self, this was just too good of an oportunity to waste! Getting to know her clans borders and get to be with one of the clan's elites? It was an honor! So she made sure to make use of this opportunity and pay attention to her sorroundings and memorice every single tree and rock she walked past, slowly filling the Shadowclan map she was forming in her mind.
When Rookfire spoke, Firepaw quickened her pace a bit to be more or less by his side."No, I havent! This is the first time I've been so close to the borders since I joined...". She responded, her walk gradually becoming slower to match Rookfire's, and eventually stopping in front of the creek that marked the end of Shadowclan's territory. Firepaw nodded at Rookfire's explanation about the Hollow not being a really good place to do anything besides gather a few herbs. Now that he said it, it was true that while comming here she had barely picked up any prey scent, not even from heron's, this place's name sake, so it seemed her nose wasnt tricking her. This lack of anything was provably caused by the dryness in this part of the territory, she guessed, dryness which her paws couldnt help but notice while they made their way there, small bits of dust annoyingly clinging to her paw pads. Whatever lived there before provably left due to this lack of humidity, and the creek may be the last trace of what this place once was. She couldnt blame the prey honestly, she wouldnt like to live here either.
Firepaw followed Rookfire as they continued walking along the creek, following its stream. When the enforcer mentioned two other unfamiliar territories, the Evergreen grotto and the Dawning woods, Firepaws eyes widened a bit, just by their names they sounded so exciting!! The grotto sounded like a lush place filled with various healing herbs and prey, and the Dawning woods... Well, she wasnt sure what the "Dawning" part of the name would imply about the woods, but it did match Dawnstars name, so she just thought that coincidence was cool. She silently hoped those two were close to the border so she could take a peek at them, but she stayed quiet and let Rookfire speak, slowly absorving the information the enforcer was giving her. She looked over to the other side of the border, no Thunderclan cats could be seen nor smelled, so that part of the border patrol routine could be checked off. "Dont worry, I'l be sure to bring someone with me if I have to check out the borders, I dont plan on getting killed by enemy cats so soon!". She knew that that was provably exagerating, but there was a hint of genuiness behind the joking statement. Thunderclan cats were pretty much tied with Shadowclan for physical strength (according to her mother's stories anyway), and she wasnt at all prepared to face one off in combat yet, nor any other cat really, so she still wouldnt dare to come here alone and risk trying to fend off an intruder without backup.
At the mention of the deputy, Firepaw's ears twitched in curiosity. She hadnt had the pleasure of meeting them yet, though she had heard that they were less ruthless than Dawnstar (fact for which she silently was gratefull for), but she would like to meet them one day, maybe in one of those "official patrols" Rookfire spoke about. I see... So usually only report back if something weird happened, got it!" She gave the air a brief sniff before continuing "In that case it seems we wont have to bother the deputy for now, i dont smell any Thunderclan cats in our side of the border."
A tour of the territory. The exact thing she and Miss Grandmama had begun with. She blinked, once in a long while, paying little mind and remaining utterly unaware of the apprentice’s varying speeds. As long as she remained close - not too close, like she allowed Bleedingpaw to be - she didn’t care. He just had to keep up and not wander off.
The camp soon merged into the territory, the trees wide and tall and the wind rustling the pines as they walked along the lands, her first destination in mind being the very borders of the clans – She might as well get him acquaintanced with the other clans soon, and teach him about not crossing the borders. It should be obvious, really, but she should take no risk.
‘’Herondive Hollow, ThunderClan. Don’t cross… Miss Grandmama won’t be happy.’’
She commented, eyes inspecting the area before she began marking the scent lines, intending for Nightpaw to do the same. ‘’Always mark them when you’re here. Don’t let the scent go stale.’’
She paused. ‘’Bumblestar, their leader. ThunderClan climbs trees, like we walk the shadows.’’
Entering into territory still unfamiliar to him, Nightpaw eventually stopped focusing on his speed as he looked all around. This place was amazing! The territory was much larger than he anticipated, it was hard to tell from living in camp alone up until this point, but this place was huge! "And this is all still our territory…?" He asked as they walked.
Then Sleepysunrise showed him this place at the end of the territory. Marking the border as instructed, he suddenly caught whiff of some strange scent as Sleepysunrise mentioned ThunderClan's leader, and the fact that they climbed trees. "That strange smell…is that what ThunderClan smell like?" Looking at the trees, he wondered if there'd be any ThunderClan cats in them.
"You'll take the high road and I'll take the low road
And I'll be in Scotland before ye
Where me and my true love shall never meet again
On the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond!"
Treetiger led the attending patrol to the border. Her strides were long, matching up well with her lankier figure. "Let's make this quick, don't wanna let Spider down," the she-cat spoke with a forced stern tone. She was still adjusting to this leading a patrol thing. She didn't like being in charge like this, made her anxious. Made her friend antsy and want to bother her. Speaking of, the shadowy figure seemed to be lingering in the corner of her gaze, but anytime she shot a look in the direction, it was gone. Her shoulders were tense due to the unease of that situation, but there was nothing she could do to change this. She made her wish, and it appeared... well, it appeared it'd come true. She really wasn't ever alone now.
They came up to the border and it smelled muskier than normal. Her nose crinkled at the smell, and she turned to look at the cats with her. "I don't know what they're doing over there, but it smells like a rotting corpse," the warrior half-hissed. ShadowClan had a foul smell to begin with, but this was worse. Her ears pinned to her head, and she started moving around the undergrowth, brushing her scent against leaves and branches. Maybe she could drown out the smell with ThunderClans? Gosh, it was gross.
