[Rejected] Bogtumble

In their presence, any cat would feel small.

Keen eyes gaze at you, judging you for your worth. You know you are not the first cat to come here - nor will you be the last. But you've come with a mission, and all you have to do is sell yourself.

"What makes you stand out from the rest of the cats who want another chance?"

“...I'm hungry.”

A quiet, pathetic whimper from the shadows, before Bogtumble slunk into view - tail dragging, long ears limp, expression tired but oh so desperate. He wasn't sure how this whole process worked, but if it landed him a meal, he was willing to try.

“I've been HUNGRY. For so long. I've forgotten what fur feels like underneath my claws. How flesh splits between my teeth. The warmth of blood on my tongue…”

He stared down at the ground. “There's no way for me to eat here. I've TRIED. I got so close, and then the opportunity vanished before my eyes. I- I shouldn't even BE here. If Daddy had just done his JOB, if he hadn't LEFT ME, I wouldn't be STUCK in this hell, withering away like this! Forgotten!” He slammed a paw against the surface he stood on, eye starting to water and limbs beginning to shake.

“Let me back,” he pleaded. “I want to run, to hunt, to eat. It's been so, SO long. It's killing me a second time, not to be able to sink my claws into something!”

His last attempt had been cut short. If he could actually get back, with solid ground beneath his paws and the sun on his back, the ability to finally once again consume... well, he might actually die a second time from the sheer joy that would overcome him.

"What a miserable little creature."

It was rare Brokenstar attended these, prefering to leave it to cats.. more sympathetic. "These grounds are meant for cats who think they have value, not cockroaches like yourself who can only blubber for mercy.

"I'll let you back... to Hell where you belong. Would you like a headstart or shall we skip the chase to your ass-beating, Bogtumble?"

It was.... Rare to find a soul so foul trying for a second chance, even more so to find one so remorseless about their rot. Most cats came with hats in hand, thinking that'd earn them some clemency and found this not the case, though it did occasionally work. Not Bogtumble however, and perhaps thats what drew Dustpoppy's attention.

He was a change from the droll and dull regrets and wails of the endless cats who thought being 'good' was enough, and that alone earned him consideration.
"Now now Brokenstar, isnt it our duty to give all souls at least a chance to make their case before passing on judgement?"
A thin excuse, Dustpoppys belief in the wardens creed wasnt as fervenent as the others but she wanted to hear this out. Bogtumble was interesting.

"Besides, some of the clans have been a little.... lax, untested of late. Perhaps Bogtumble here might add in a source of change should he have a plan beyond his... Hunger. Do you have such plans dear? Plans to sate your hunger without ending up 'in this hell' again? Because otherwise theres not much point of us bringing you back at all."

Oh for StarClan's sake--Barkblaze was used to the pathetic wailing of cats who did not deserve a first chance, let alone a second, but this one took the entire prey pile. As the former medicine cat slipped out of the starry shadows and joined Brokenstar and Dustpoppy, he regarded Bogtumble with an unimpressed glare. Brokenstar seemed ready to refuse the idiot here and now, but Dustpoppy wanted to hear him out.

A pluming white tail lashed, sending small stars twinkling away and fizzling to nothingness. "I think we are forgetting to bring up Bogtumble's recent escapades into the WindClan Nursery." He might have been in StarClan for a long while now, but Barkblaze had never forgotten his roots in WindClan. Seeing another cat threaten to eat kits just for a laugh was a sick form of evil. Barkblaze had only known about the incident because he had been keeping an eye on Bogtumble's activity after the rat invaded StarClan's camp and made a scene. "Are you even listening to him? After threatening to eat kits he comes wailing to us about returning so he can hunt?" Barkblaze studied both of his fellow StarClanners with an incredulous look. The tom huffed, composing himself into his usual calm state. He was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they just didn't know. "It is my opinion that this cat is nothing good. Unless you can convince me otherwise, I refuse to let him through."

The first cat to approach him was a mood-killer and a half, and Bogtumble wondered with a glare in his direction if he tasted spicy or like garbage. Maybe a mix of both - and probably too tough to eat anyways, if he was as old as he looked.

Two others joined Brokenstar before Bogtumble had the opportunity to spit something out. Dustpoppy was willing to give him a chance, but Barkblaze, like Brokenstar, seemed to be blinded by biases. Maybe if kits didn't taste so good he wouldn't have gone after them!!!

“It was- It was a lapse in judgement," he croaked out, dropping his gaze to the floor in shame. He hadn't even come close to getting what he'd wanted, anyways. "I won't go for the little ones, won't even go for the grown!" His Clanmates, he could restrain himself from them. "I'll- I'll find corpses. The already d-dead ones, I'll feed myself on those." It would make him feel like some sorry scavenger, but if it got him a place back in the living world, he could tolerate it. "Or O-Outsiders who are stupid enough to threaten WindClan. My Clan. Protecting them, killing what endangers them and feeding from that, that won't land me back in the dark, right? Surely?”

He... could wait. Until opportunities came. Couldn't he?

"He had his chance Dustpoppy, he wasted it on crying about eating other cats and terrorizing children." A lash of his tail. Brokenstar hadn't missed the nursery incident, it was that his mind had already made.

Granted, he wasn't entirely unreasonable but he saw no true value in reviving this heap of trash. "The only reason you want to return is so you can eat more cats, you have no plan beyond hunger. It's easy to claim you'll keep your jaws to yourself outside the dead but what happens when a Clan-mate gets injured? When you can smell their blood, their juicy skin is exposed and begging to be stripped more?"

Brokenstar snarled. "You'll snap. Kits, warriors... they're all just walking meals to you, and you'll be unable to resist them, just like when you were alive. So no, Bogtumble: these ladies may humor your desires but I will not be approving you." He didn't think the other two would be swayed by Bogtumble's plan but who knew. Brokenstar huffed into the crisp air, enjoying the hint of a breath cloud that appeared.

The interested look had, sadly, faded as Bogtumble had spoke and proven Brokenstar right in his judgement of the toms shallow nature. Death, murder all of it had its place in clan life and if the stars rejected all who killed then they'd be empty of all but the children. However blind thoughtless death was useless as the most high and mighty thought the dark forest to be. They were wrong in their assumption of the dark side of death, all had its place and they could judge all they want but the wise knew the truth of the place of dishonorability but it seemed today they were not wrong about Bogtumble.


Dustpoppy huffed, eyes turning disinterested as this engagement rapidly faded, musing. "Shame. You seemed to be actually something at first but now its clear. You are death without purpose but hunger Bogtumble and the clans have coyotes and foxes for that. You are not needed. Try having substance to yourself should you try again as I am rejecting you and so youre not coming back."



Not bothering to stick around the molly stood and started to leave, not willing to subject herself to Bogtumbles inane babbling or Brokenstars snide words, simply tossing a final piece of her mind over her shoulder.
"All dark has its place in life as much as others may scorn it, but a gift like this is not easily given. Be unique and have purpose if youre so desperate to escape with that hollow creed of yours."

He was being told no?? He thought this would have been enough!! He wasn't going to crack!! It had been a one-time... three-time... okay, eight-time craving, but come on!! Nothing had happened, no one had gotten hurt, he was still HUNGRY, and it WASN'T FAIR. All he ever heard in life was no, and now it was coming back around to haunt him even in death! How awful was that?!

So he resorted to begging.

Bogtumble took a single step forward and hurled himself into a blubbering pile at the wardens’ paws. “PLEASE!” he wailed, long ears pinned flat against the sides of his head. “PLEASEIMSOHUNGRYPLEASEPLE-HE-HEAAAASE!! I'LL DO ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL, JUST LET ME GO BACK!”

Barkblaze turned around to leave as Bogtumble wailed desperately at their paws, irritation making his tail lash behind him. "Get a hold of yourself. Though I suppose you have eternity to do so. Come back when you have an actual reason to be granted new life." A short trial, with a disappointing end. Some cats just never changed. Barkblaze didn't know why he even bothered with these anymore.
