A gutteral grunt came from the tom just below the beast. Putting all his strength into pushing that thing up. The heavy tail definitely weighing him down. Stuttering slightly, the calico began to slip backwards, the dirt crumbling beneath the weight of both him and the beast. Fur snagging on one of the branches Spiderthroat let out an annoyed hiss.

It took a lot of effort, but eventually he'd jostled the beast just enough to free it from the willow branch. Heavy huffing coming from the deputy. Hopefully, with one final push, they'd get it up and out of this stupid hole.

Oh, I can change, I can evolve

I can get up when I fall
I'll live contentedly, I don't need a reason why
Standing tall and
standing strong
I have found where I belong
In the arms of somebody, there is no more need to cry

| Sprucejumper |
9 Moons - ThunderClan Warrior

Kitty Softpaws - Active | Ultimate Predator - Inactive | Agatha Kitty - Inactive

A blink to let this Raggedear know he'd heard the name was all the emotion he displayed, yet confusion bubbled deep within the recesses of his mind. Raggedear?! Had this tom been called Raggedkit and it just happened to match up his ears as he grew up and been named that? Which you know... maybe this former kittypet wasn't the most knowledgeable when it came to clan cat names, but rude? Or had he had another name at some other point and it had been changed? The heavens themselves knew how much these cats liked the whole name changing thing, but once he'd assumed he got a grasp on how their whole naming system worked, he at least thought the warrior name - the one that let others know you were in fact neither a kit nor had paws - was the last one, but now? Now he wasn't so sure. Well... if Angry suddenly decided to name him something else, he'd just go straight back to Fudge. To hell with this nonsense.

Despite the admitted curiosity that bubbled within the tom's silence, he refrained from wording it out. It would take too much effort. Too many words. No one had time for that. Besides, he didn't fully understand clan customs. He might have spent most of his life by now among them, but he didn't interact with them. Not really. Not outside of The Boulder, and they were... different. Who knew if asking would be forbidden somehow. That would be something to be remembered for... Killed by Angry for asking about a name. Yeah. No thanks.

Despite his curiosity and usual disinterest in the entirety of the conversation once he realized he wasn't in trouble clashing horribly and vying for dominance in the back of his mind, Sprucejumper found his whiskers twitching in mild amusement - Mudhound would have no doubt roared in glee as if he'd laughed out loud at the motion - at Raggedear's admission, nodding along despite himself. A squirrel this warrior's size would have been a feast. Come to think of it, he probably wouldn't have been able to carry it back all by himself. He might have grown taller in his moons since the start of his apprenticeship, but he was hardly the big, bulky feline his former mentor was. The backache would probably have not been worth the hunt to begin with.

It wasn't until the red warrior questioned his reason for being him that he caught himself, settling back to deadpanned aloofness as he... did not understand what was being asked of him. Did one have to always be on patrol to go hunting? He certainly hoped not. The Havana Brown mix did not do well with others. He did not do the whole socializing thing well. Him and The Boulder worked because... well... they could understand him. Perfectly. Almost like if they could read his mind. He didn't have to talk around them. He could just be. It wasn't the case with anyone else in the clan, and as such, he found himself shrugging, his blank, hooded stare unchanging as he uttered his single worded response.

"Hunting."

@JellyCat [Raggedear]
| No worries! Write what you are comfortable with. On the flipside, apologies for Sprucejumper's general dosage of grumpiness. This is actively I believe the most he has emoted in a roleplay that isn't with Mudhound. |

The last couple moons had been rough, to say the least. Wolfhive hadn't been badly wounded in the attack on RiverClan, but had acquired an unforeseen complication from the fight... Illness. If the fish were good at one thing, it was confining Wolfhive to bed duty.

Recovery had been hard. Springlight hadn't been around lately to tend to this affliction, and admittedly he was a little too stubborn to someone else try to treat him. Springlight had proven herself to him time and time again as a healer, others... had a lot of work to do before he'd let them near him with herbs.

Today was the first day he'd actually felt fine enough to leave camp. His body still had tell-tale aches and found himself trying to catch his breath once they were out of camp, but other than that? Great, just a little tired. Better than throwing up like he'd done after taking out those two traitors.

"Good.. day for an outing," he breathed softly. The sun was shining brightly, spreading warmth through his fur as they passed through the sun-spotted woods. "'m glad you're here, 'ma." If there was ever company Wolfhive longed for, it'd be Bumba's aways.

"No one's been around here in a bit," he mused after a moment, as they neared the outskirts of the Haggard Ruins. Maybe it was his nose being messed up still.. he just didn't really smell ThunderClan all that well.

Instead, what he smelled was dampness. Water? Wolfhive twitched his nose in confusion. It hadn't rained since he was confined to camp, at least as far as he could remember. And it certainly wasn't raining right now, as the sun continued to shine overhead, but the closer they got to the ruins the more mushy the ground became, as if it'd been soaking up rainfall. "Why the hell is it so wet over here?"

"Watch your step!"

Wolfhive's call came before they reached the fringe of the former camp, tail waving as an added measure to catch her attention. "Ground's not super stable in spots, if your paw slides move off it before you wipe out. Don't want you getting hurt."

The brush would soon open up, revealing the dent in the earth where the ground had sunken. The sinkhole remained near the center of the old camp, full of murky water and armed with the willow tree, which had fallen diagonally into the water. "Ain't the prettiest thing to look at, but this was our camp before the current one. The ground swallowed it and that hole appeared." He nodded toward what might-as-well have been an artificial pond. "The water's new, though. Think rain's been filling it up."

Kestrelpaw
She/Her | 99/100 | [ #flocklitterkestrel ]

“You guys lived here?” Kestrelpaw was both baffled and also fascinated. Her muzzle wrinkled at the holes riddled in the ground. Yes, Kestrelpaw was on a patrol with Wolfhive. Yes, willingly. In her defense… a new spot to see! Anyway, back to the strange looking camp. Of course, it probably looked different back then. Better, or something, because that was the way ThunderClan was. They were more awesome than all four Clans. …Three, she means.

Wolfhive’s earlier warning had translated into Kestrelpaw constantly watching her paws as she followed after his scent, but now she’d forgotten, and was looking up as she walked, blue eyes taking in the water basin that Wolfhive was gesturing towards. “Oooh, it’s like … an extra water supply or something! We can be the better RiverClan even while being the awesomest ThunderClan.” Kestrelpaw wandered over to the edge. But she wasn’t entirely stupid, she wouldn’t lean over the edge and tempt fate to push her over.

Eh, she would fall in anyway, because Kat is sleepy and this post isn’t wording. So when Kestrelpaw is done looking, the young molly pivots on her heel to head back. Except she turned too quickly, and the ground beneath her paws was both slick with leftover rainwater and crumbly with leftover sinkhole-iness, thus when one paw slipped, the fluffy apprentice barely had time to shout her panic before she’d tumbled from view, followed by a loud splash, and then sunless thrashing.

"Oh yeah, back when I was a kit. The willow tree over there," he nodded to the one that'd fallen into the 'pond', "that was our Stormcrest. The Thunderwillow." He personally liked the Stormcrest more, it felt more like them. Maybe if this was an oak or a sycamore but... a willow could be any Clan, really.

Wolfhive was trying to watch Kestrelpaw carefully, but it was hard when she had a mind of her own. "It definitely gives us an advantage if they try taking Cattail Pond back... hey, careful getting too close, it's not -" Too late, there she blows. "Dung!"

Kestrelpaw went underwater and Wolfhive was right behind her, cursing up a storm.

Thankfully, unlike many of their Clan-mates Wolfhive had an idea on how to swim. He, by no means, was an expert, but he knew enough to propel himself through the water and grab Kestrelpaw by her scruff, then aggressively push them both upward to the surface. When they broke it, he immediately pulled her to the fallen willow - thanking it for existing in the interim.

When she was save on the log, Wolfhive sank against it with a huff. "... let's not do that again!"

[ @dino. this is so rough forgive me father ]

Constantly worrying over Wolfhive was tiring. Bumblestar did not blame him for how easily he seemed to fall ill, but that didn't mean she couldn't run herself ragged with concern. He could handle himself, he knew that - certain things just made it harder, and she was going to worry regardless.

It was a relief that he was finally feeling better, and she could get back to being overrun with other things to concern herself over. She stayed close to him as they walked. "I'm glad you're feeling well enough to get outta camp," she replied. "You had me a little stressed for a while there." It was a constant reminder of the extent of RiverClan's cruelty. They still managed to keep their claws in her family even without being present.

Wolfhive's nose wasn't the only one picking up on the absence of ThunderClan. Bumblestar didn't exactly blame her cats for staying away from what used to be a beast's den and a death-trap, but it was still a waste of territory that she wanted to fix.

Her paw landed in a puddle as soon as the words left Wolfhive's mouth. With a frown, she looked down and pulled her paw away, then glanced up, and- "Oh, damn."

The pit in the center was nearly filled to the top with water. It looked like it would be easy to slip in and fall, with how wet the surrounding ground was and how far the water stopped from the edge of the pit - though with what remained of the Thunderwillow having been submerged almost entirely, at least there was a way back out.

Bumblestar padded carefully to the edge, eyes sweeping the new body of water. "The hell happened here? A pond can't just show up outta nowhere."

Kestrelpaw
She/Her | 105/100 | [ #flocklitterkestrel ]

All Kestrelpaw could do was - after the whole initial coughing up her lungs to get the water she'd inhaled out (very ungraceful, but nothing about this whole escapade had been graceful on her end) - gape at Wolfhive, claws dug into the bark, wet fur half dripping, half sticking up in every direction imaginable.

In short, she looked like a drowned rat now that all her fluff had decompressed into ... what she actually looked like underneath it all. "I didn't do it on purpose!" The apprentice burst, and then realized she sounded a little too high-pitched and hysterical. But hello! She had a right! She'd almost drowned! Died! ThunderClan would be so boring without her!

For a moment, she stood there, wide-eyed and distraught, before everything in her mind slowly reorganized, thoughts audibly clicking into place. "I fell. In the water. And you saved me. In the water?" Her maw parted on a gasp. "You can swim! Why? How! Did a RiverClan teach you?! Are you a RiverClan... Clanner?" She didn't know how that would work, and it was quite ironic that of the two, Kestrelpaw had more fish roots, but she didn't know that.

Hey, wait... "If you can swim, than I can swim too." That made sense, right? Cuz she was better, obviously. Which meant she was also a better-er swimmer. Almost. Kinda. Soon, that was.

"Heh," Once Wolfhive had composed himself a bit more, he actually got a better look at Kestrelpaw in all her sodden glory. "you kinda look like a wet rat." Wasn't meant to be mean, just an observation. Realistically, Wolfhive probably didn't look much better with his fluff flattened down.

Swimming wasn't an ideal thing, but something Wolfhive was glad he picked up from Violetfreckle in his youth. "yeaaah...... if you ever call me a RiverClan cat again I will eat you." She was, after all, surprisingly rat-like under her fur. "Violetfreckle's from RiverClan, I asked her to teach me when I was an apprentice 'n she did."

Wolfhive poked Kestrelpaw (mostly gently) to encourage her to scoot up and off the tree. "C'mon, climb up so I'm not half submerged!"

Affectionately, Wolfhive bonked his head against Bumba. "Don't mean to, just..." What the hell even triggered the sicknesses?? Things were a bit of a blur for him, he faintly remembered the raid then things went downhill. "Wasn't.. always.. like this." He knew, once, he felt almost invincible to sickness. It.. started when he was an apprentice. After the poison.

How it impacted him, he'd never wholly know.

The water was definitely strange. Rain didn't normally miss most of their territory.. Wolfhive didn't consider himself superstitious, the whole StarClan thing felt a million fox-lengths away. "You think that spirit 'round here had anything to do with it?" The.. Jaycat, the one that got them out of the sinkhole tunnels. Wolfhive didn't know why though, it's not like they needed a pond. "Guess it's a backup for if we lose Cattail."

He examined the edge carefully, noting how easily some of it crumbled. "Ground's still unstable, probably shouldn't have new apprentices out here at least. Not all of our Clan-mates can fish 'em out if they fall in."
