The divide [P]

Here she was again, alone. She had lost count of how long she'd been in the stars now, lost count of the moons and seasons that had passed since her unfortunate birth and death, all at once. Faithkit didn't care too much anymore. Or at least, that's what she told herself - that she didn't care, that she didn't mind this lonely, this robbed chance of living. But she did. She still felt envy, envy of those who threw away their chances at life and envy of those who got to live. And she felt lonely. Without parents, without siblings - not up here, at least - she was lonely.

So she wandered, day by day, as the eternal night carried on. Stars surrounded and covered her stark white pelt, a ghost among spirits. She wandered and sought in search of something new, in search of something she hadn't seen before, in search of something that might entertain her long enough to keep her mind off this... This wish. This wish of a second chance. Taking in the starry landscape, the milk-white kitten with milky eyes had hardly realised where her paw steps carried where, where she was headed. Not until she stood there, fox lengths away from it - the border. The dreaded border she was not meant and unable to cross.

But it intrigued her so. And as such, she stood there, silently watching the darkness on the other side, contrasting the pale and lit-up landscape that she inhabited. Her head tilted, curious, but Faithkit knew better than to try and cross. Stars, it shouldn't even be possible to cross. So all she did was watch, and watch, and watch. And she wondered, what brought residents of the Dark Forest there? What was life like across the border? Horrid, she must imagine. Full of pain and tragedy and anger and envy and... She paused. She too, felt envy. Did that mean she was destined to go to the place of no stars if these feelings persisted? ...She hoped not. Unfair as it might be, she'd rather be here than over there.
