"Dreadful, eh. I guess so? It's pretty nice, just... Yeesh, talk about obvious."

He stares at the warrior, eyes narrowing as he scrutinizes the other cat's coat. His tail flicks idly at the tip while the thoughts drift through his mind. Maybe some day, someone would come stumbling into camp, tremors running down their spine, absolutely quaking with the news... Snowecho, dead because his pelt was too light. More common than you'd think.

His eyes return to Snowecho's and he blinks calmly, but also as a sign that this was all a friendly, or at least peaceful, conversation- Daypaw was probably just chatting exactly what was on his mind and no less.

"At least for you, it's something you can't really change. Can't wake up one day saying you'll turn your pelt, like, brown or something, and do it. If I ever go down, it'll be when I've stopped for the third time to catch my breath in the span of a few minutes while running away from... Dogs? Something dumb."

Sagechaser leaned forward with a paw extended out, intended to poke the kit in the ribs gently. "Not say much?" he asked curiously, still keeping his usual bright grin. Other than telling him that she had been chasing a butterfly, Shadowkit didn't seem much like the chatty type. Sagechaser wasn't sure if that was just shyness or the result of being young and having a limited vocabulary. "Wanna play a game?" he asked conversationally.

Darkfall had been in the clearing in the midst of… well, nothing. Oddly, he hadn’t found something to occupy himself with in between patrols and training, either alone or with his apprentice. It was while he was in the midst of doing nothing that he heard his name called. It was Nighthound…? Just what did he want? Well, only one way to find out.

Stalking over, he noticed that Dogpaw and Mousepaw were already there. He nodded to each of the three cats in front of him before turning his attention to Nighthound. Or that’s what he’d like to say he did. Instead, he kept sending curious glances over at Mousepaw. Weren’t he and Larky- no [ILarkfire[/I] relatively close? Perhaps he would take an opportunity to chat with the apprentice one on one at some point.

Anyways, now he really turned his attention to Nighthound ”Greetings, what is it that you’d like for us to do?” he asked in a flat, but respectful tone. He couldn’t help but notice that two apprentices had also been called over, so perhaps it was a patrol? Oh well, he was sure he wouldn’t have to wait long.

Was this some kind of competition? Who could insult themselves worse and more often? Because if so, this was definitely a competition Snowecho could win. I mean, look at them. Their pelt grew lighter and lighter every day. It was as if stress alone was killing him slowly and ruthlessly... Or something like that. Ears flat against his head, he looks the apprentice over once more... Having extra weight definitely didn't seem like a bad thing. Not in their eyes, anyway. Would he go through the effort of trying to convince the young one otherwise? Most likely not. Thinking about him running from a dog and pausing to catch his breath, however... Ugh, it sends a shiver down his spine. If it came down to it they would die in his stead in a heartbeat! Scum like him deserved to die at the jaws of a creature just as disgusting.

Anxiously, they paw at the dirt, tracing mindless shapes with his claws... How was he supposed to respond to that? Friendly conversation or not it's driving him a little crazy to have to uphold conversation at all! He should have cowered and run when he had the chance! Letting their head lower a bit, their words come out so quietly it's almost as if they said nothing at all.

"Maybe if I could I would be worth something..." Grumble, grumble, mumble, mumble... "I think you look just fine the way you are... No need to change... Only cretins like me should bother bettering themselves..."

His attention slips away from the warrior for a moment so he can eat a little more of the squirrel before continuing.

"But bettering yourself is something anyone should want to do. It doesn't really mean you're not enough. Just that you can be more. And everyone should be... More or less down with wanting more."

Look at this apprentice, spitting out straight facts. How old was he? Not even his roleplayer knows.

The words come almost immediately. Blurted out without a single thought. And immediately they look shameful. Lips pressing together in a thin line, he falls silent for a span of time... An uncomfortable span of time. Break the silence, say something, this was killing them--

"I... No... Not me. I can't be more than this. Never. Never again..." The words border insanity, eye widening as it stares blankly at the shapes in the dirt. "I'm... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I should go."

Fear fueling their pawsteps, they whip around and quickly begin to pad towards the warriors' den. Such a young mind shouldn't have to listen to the mad rambling of an insect like him.

Nightspark Quietly observed the cats go about their day in the camp out of extreme boredom, waiting for something interesting to happen and shifting position a little every once in a while.
