The young apprentice had just been in camp when a warrior moved out into the territory. Hey an opportunity to leave camp. Ratpaw bounded after him not really keeping all that quiet. Would he send him back? He hoped not. He shouldn't get into trouble since he was just following after a warrior right? So many questions. "Hello.", he meowed.

Redheart lifted his eyes off the ground and spotted Ratpaw. “Oh, hey,” the warrior greeted, then swished his head back and forth, realizing something. “Where is your mentor?”

Deciding that it was borage, the mottled she-cat started picking the blue flowers until she had a good amount. "Right," she mumbled around the plants, "lets get these back to camp." She padded away back along the path they had followed, swishing her tail for her patrol to follow. @Willowfern - @Orion

Shadowclan was starving.
Again.

The large tabby had noticed the freshkill pile shrinking to very little often, but it had never run out. Sure, it had been filled up a tiny bit not soon after, but still. He supposed some of it could be blamed on the deputy dying, but even before twolegs had killed him, Cinderblaze had been a little bit lazy with patrols. Why did the Shadowclan deputies always seem to end up so crappy? Finchwhisker had gotten sloppy with patrols to the degree that Marshwolf had been forced to take over that before he was demoted. Shadestorm seemed fine at first, but at the end, Owlfeather had basically replaced him, with Dawnstar even appointing her and Elmshadow to watch over the clan instead of him. Cinderblaze had been active, but now longer and longer went between the patrols.

A slight growl slipped out as Badgerscar stalked across the territory on another hunting trip. Just some prey to fill up the freshkill pile, that was what he was looking for. Maybe a rabbit, some mice and voles, or a bird or two. He wasn't really all that eager or energetic right now, as this was more a mundane task that needed to be done.

A rustle ahead alerted him and he swiftly dropped into a hunting crouch, but as he tasted the air to check what kind of prey he was dealing with his jaws clenched in frustration. Dammit. Twolegs. He could feel the gross smell seeping through the forest as footspets began to sound a bit away. He pressed himself into the plats around him, hiding his large body among them as he checked to see how many sets of feet he could hear. Two. Ok, not too big of a deal, probably just two idiots taking a walk. But then another sound joined the two, and another scent. They had a dog with them as well.

Had it not been for the fear of being noticed, Badgerscar would have let out the growl growing like thunder in his chest, but he pushed it away as he tried to make up a plan. It there had just been a pair of twolegs it would have been fine, and slipping away wouldn't have been too big of an issue, they were accompanied by a dog. Twolegs were dangerous sure, but some of their senses were so poor they might as well have moss stuffed into their ears, and their sense of smell was close to non-existent, so as long you avoided being seen, you'd be fine. But as stupid as dogs could be, they were more equipped to be in the forest, and while Badgerscar was a good fighter, he couldn't take on a dog of that size easily.

There were plants to hide among, which was good, but moving more would give him away thanks to the sound it would cause, and there also weren't any convenient trees around to get up in. The three were coming closer on the path, which meant Badgerscar's time to think was running out, so he strained his muscles and began to move as quickly as he could without letting the plants swish and make noise. And had it not been for the bird righ then flying up a bit ahead of him, he might have made it safely away. Now the dog looked up, something glinting in its eyes as he began to run, run towards Badgerscar and the bird. Of course, the feathery little demond got away unharmed and before the dog had even gotten there, but it meant that the dog's whole focus had shifted to the warrior as it saw him.

He couldn't outrun that dog. Badgerscar was a large and bulky cat, not built for running, and couldn't go toe-to-toe with something that had so much longer legs. Even with his knowledge of the territory, he wouldn't make it to a tree in time. So he would have to stay. And fight.

Claws were unsheathed, teeth bared, back arched and fur bristling up as his tail bushed to make him look even larger. The dog did stop a fox length before him and seemed to hesitate when seeing that its toy had sharp edges, but still seemed too eager to leave him alone. The Enforcer sent a swift swipe toward the beast in front of him, scratching it cleanly over the muzzle and leaving three stinging lows of red behind them. The dog flinched away, and for a few moments, Badgerscar hoped that that had done it, since more would realize that this wouldn't become as fun as they had hoped, but this dog was more stubborn, more vicious, and after getting over the first shock, it lunged forward. Badgerscar's claws head for the dog again. But while he got in some good hits, it managed to get its jaws around one of his forepaws, and he growled as a splitting pain shot up through his legs.

There was a cracking sound, like a twig snapping in half, and he finally got the dog to let go, but as his paw settled on the ground again he left the same pain radiating up his bones again. He couldn't stand on it, that dam dog had broken his leg! He tried to continue fighting with his other paws, but the dog was lifted up by the twolegs who had finally reached them. He had expected them to just leave now, but the other one came towards him, and pick him up. What? No, this wasn't how things went! "Get. Your. Grimy. Little. Twoleg-paws. OF ME!" His voice was a growling fury as he tried to bite and scratch the twolegs, but it seemed it had covered its forepaws with something... thick, that his claws and teeth couldn't penetrate and despite all his efforts, the large cat was carried away...

When hearing her name being called for a hunting patrol, Owlstorm rose to her paws and flicked her tail to her patrol mate to follow her as she stalked out into the territory. She was getting more and more familiar with this clan and its land, and knew the forest rather well now, so after they had gotten a bit away from the camp, she turned to the other warrior the short "We'll split up, just called for me if something happens." Before she started hunting in her direction.

Hornetpaw kept close behind his patrol buddy, careful not to drop the fine oak leaves he'd scavenged off the mulch beneath his paws. He nodded in agreement when Cloversun pointed out what she believed to be borage. "Yeah, that's it. They look just like what Elmshadow showed us. Good find."

The dark ginger boy plucked two of the biggest blooms he could find, regathered his leaves, and trotted briskly toward camp. Finally: a straightforward patrol gone right.

His ears bent back a bit in surprise. "Probably asleep or doing something else. I'm not sure. I just kind of saw yo leave camp and wanted to come with. Is that alright?", he asked. Ratpaw's voice was nervous and quite quiet. Hopefully he wouldn't be rejected. He just wanted to get to know his clanmates. He never really had the chance to.

The tiny black kit mewed loudly. She missed her mother. Briefly she wondered why she was here. Why had Mother abandoned her? She wailed loudly, hoping someone would hear. She tried to open her eyes, but couldn’t. She was too little.

brackenfire had been walking, attempting to stretch her legs when she heard the wailing of a child. Maternal instincts overrode her formerly "don't give a crap" mindset, and she padded quickly to find a small black kitten. "Um." What the hell.

The grey and silver-furred molly slipped away, ducking into the undergrowth, and quickly picked up on the scent of a blackbird. It was something, and she quickly catched the bird, but she wanted to get more in case her patrol mate didn't prove to be all that good. So she continued stalking, periodically checking the air and keeping her eyes and ears alert of sighs of prey. A rustle in the undergrowth in front of her was the next hint, and Owlstorm loved herself further, tasing the air - Vole. - before closely estimating the distance and pouncing.

Two kills, which would have been enough for one cat of a two-cat patrol, but Owlstorm hadn't heard anything from the direction where her patrol mate had gone, so she continued hunting. After spotting, stalking up on, and killing a lizard, she considered her job here done and began to stalk back. But, as she had suspected, the other cat was nowhere to be seen. Owlstorm allowed an irritated huff to escape her as she took her catches and walked back to camp.
