Re: RiverClan post battle healing thread
FRECKLECRY
__________
By the time Frecklecry reached camp, her paws barely lifted off the ground. Every step was more of a dragged out, trudging motion than a proper walk. The body of her apprentice had grown heavy on her back but she refused to leave her. Loonpaw would make it home if it was the last thing Frecklecry did. Vision blurred, they did their best to follow their wounded clanmates into the medicine den.
Frecklecry shuffled in not far behind the last. As gently as she could, she let Loonpaw's body slide to the floor, as close to a nest as she could manage.
"Please help her." they croaked. Anyone could see the limp, unmoving body of Loonpaw and understand there was no helping to be done but delirium and exhaustion had long set in, the rising pain dulling any sense of logic in her head.
"Please just-... help Loonpaw." With that, she stumbled off to the next bed of moss and slumped to the floor. Breathing shallow but present, they would appear to have passed out - either from exhaustion or blood loss, or some combination of the two.

After setting down the body of the apprentice she was carrying for the vigil, the dark tabby she-cat padded over to where she saw Snakeheart waiting to treat the injured. She was starting to get a bit dizzy from blood-loss, which had slowed slightly, but the wound was still seeping. Giving the tom a smile, she lowered herself to the ground so he could get a better look at the gash, which ran from one shoulder up to the base of her skull.

Re: RiverClan post battle healing thread
@ iris.
Another cat and Snakeheart hopped into action immediately. With the poppyseeds running low as they were the tom couldnt afford to use them on Hazelstorms ear so with a grimace on his face the tom grabbed the burdock chewing it rapidly and only ignoring the bitter taste with the skill granted by having to do it many many times before. Herb licked onto the ear and slathered over the leg as Snakeheart frowned at the limb trying to determine how to heal it the tom wrapped the ear tight scooping up a stick with his tail as he asked.
"Hazelstorm your leg looks.... off. It doesnt look broken to me but.... well Ill probably need to mess with it to fix it and thats bound to be painful. Ive used some burdock to numb the area and Ive a stick to bite on but do you think you'll be able to manage without poppyseeds? The choice is up to you I just... am running low and dont want to use any if I can avoid it."
@ zenosaurus
The deputy was in bad shape and that was enough to send a thrill of fear through the tom as he started licking the herbs into the toms many many wounds thankful he was awake enough to eat them. The toms didnt know eachother very well but Snakeheart got the feeling he'd get hell from multiple angles if he let the deputy die well aware Snowleap had a family almost as large as Snakehearts had once been as well as a mate and friends. (No no no now was not the time to feel bitter jealousy for all he lost or couldnt have now was time to save a life). Some of the herbs over the deep gash in the shoulder, that would scar for sure, some over the claw marks in his side which may heal without scarring if the tom would actually allow himself to relax and recover as he should (like Kestrelstar and so many never did) and nothing over the deep bruising he could do nothing for and he was moving onto the big ticket.
The eye.
Snakeheart had treated cats who'd lost an eye before most notably Lotusheart and her own eerily similar injury and he could tell at a glance sight from the eye was a hopeless dream. The main concern was allowing the deputy to keep the eye and not make him go through the terrible process of the eye rotting from his head leaving a open hole in the skull. It was possible for a cat to survive that of course.... just unlikely and Snakeheart would rather avoid it. So no care for how this might damage the sight or hurt the tom (he couldnt afford to worry about that for now the dandelion and poppyseeds would just have to do their job) the rest of the herbal salve was slathered over the eye layered deep into the cut and over the ball as the medicine cat worked his magic.
Job done and a step back to take a breather from the grusome task the toms ear flicked at the weak request and with a nod he wasnt even sure Snowleap could see the medicine cat darted off to retrieve a piece of soaked moss coming back to drip it slowly into the deputy mouth muttering a soft. "Once youre done you need to rest ok? All will be well but you need to sleep and recover when you wake I can get you prey and anyone you want to see, just sleep." as he did.
@ Vannytrap
The jaw was an immediate concern and Snakeheart ushered the injured apprentice to an open nest before quickly gathering his supplies to look him over. Snakeheart knew broken bones when he saw them and damn if this battle hadnt turned up a great many broken bones this time and that alone was worrying. Generally the medicine cat could get bones to heal with nary a limp but... he had no clue how to treat a broken jaw bone, how was he even supposed to bind anything together?! No he could come to that after the other herbs were on for now.... Snakeheart opened his mouth holding a herb in his paw in offering as he explained paw moving to organize everything else in order. "Right I know swallowing anything right now does not sound appealing but I need to fix that jaw and all the other cuts and that will be painful. Ive got a poppyseed here that will send you under so I can heal you that should help with the pain but if you want to avoid trying to eat anything right now I can try to do things without consumed herbs. I warn you that will be much harder however so the choice is up to you and if you take the poppyseeds now you should be asleep for the rest of the healing." If Bluepaw took the herbs now and took them things would be easier but it wasnt up to Snakeheart to make that sort of decision when the apprentice was still conscious.
@ duckie @ littlelove
At a glance it was hard to tell a cat long gone from one simply lingering on that line between life and death limp from a potential close encounter. And all Snakeheart had was a glance at the situation at the apprentice slipping off of Frecklecrys back before he was springing into action desperate to stop a loss already complete.
"Morninglily treat Frecklecry I need to tend to Loonpaw! Hurry and we cant afford to use any more poppyseeds for dandelion and marigold go now!"
And suddenly he was at Loonpaws side looking over the apprentice desperate to find what was wrong so he could fix it! ...... The lack of pulse of warm blood pushing out of the wounds was the first sign and the medicine cats heart went cold. There... there was nothing. No. No! He could still fix this this... Snakehearts paw were flying lifting the head pushing on the apprentices chest trying trying to get air back into still lungs but there was nothing nothing to be done.
@ RiztheHuntress
At least there were some cats that were not completely and totally injured and Snakeheart thanked his lucky stars as he padded over already chewing some marigold and dandelion to slather into the cuts. No poppyseeds for this, the tom was officially rationing the warrior would have to make do with the pain. Soon the salve was licked into the injuries and cobwebs were brought out to wrap everything tight and the medicine cat sagged exhausted by all the chaos of the day to tired to muster up anything but a low. "Is there anything else or should I just leave you to rest?" at the molly hoping he wouldnt have to go fetch water or prey but willing to do so if requested.

Giving a little hoarse chirp of appreciation, the tabby she-cat curled into a free nest. She didn't require anything at the moment, she was just happy to rest and let the herbs soothe her wound. It didn't even hurt that much anymore, to be honest, she was just fatigued from blood loss. Giving Snakeheart a warm blink, Moonfrost tucked her nose under her tail and let herself drift off into sleep.

Bluepaw's eyes were locked on the medicine cat, his jaw killing him. "I ill ry." He reached down and snatched the poppy seeds with his broken jaw and somehow swallowed them, biting back the pain in his jaw. He laid his head down, closing his eyes, relaxation flowing through him. He was soon asleep, his back and chest rising nd falling evenly.

Re: RiverClan post battle healing thread
The names of the dead echoed in Flickerpaw’s skull, syllables that grew louder and more jarring until they lost all meaning but grief. She stared blankly ahead, one paw shuffling in front of the other, kinked tail dragging on the ground… the noise in her head blaring, drowning, numbing, becoming a static ring until the inky apprentice could scarcely sense her own heartbeat. Mintleaf had said they'd fought well… Flickerpaw had survived... but ThunderClan had taken their territory and RiverClan lives, so what the hell was the point?
Several cats had already made it to the medicine den, being fretted over by Snakeheart and his assistants. Flicker's washed-out sage eyes observed them all listlessly. Distantly, she knew that her tail hung limp by her haunches, crushed by cruel teeth… her face was bleeding, her shoulder, it hurt to take deep breaths… yet these injuries felt far away, muddy and indistinct. No pain compared to the dull, heavy ache sitting like a massive bruise in her heart.
Who cared?
"Um…" Their gaze swept the scene, noting which warriors had what wounds. Everyone seemed so connected--and then there was Flickerpaw, standing around like a puzzle piece that didn't belong, who hadn't managed to make a single bit of difference in the battle. Moisture stung their pale stare. Useless. "I… think I got h-hurt…"

Re: RiverClan post battle healing thread
- Wrenpaw
She made her way to the medicine cat den, leaning on Foampaw before shifting her weight off. The molly gave him a slow nod before walking the rest of the journey on her own, was it painfully? Of course. But she was going to get it fixed...hopefully. The young apprentice took a glance at another apprentice, Flickerpaw, who stood beside her, "Excuse me...?" She had a throbbing head ache and her paw still felt like a floppy fish attached to a stick.

Re: RiverClan post battle healing thread
FRECKLECRY
__________
As Frecklecry flopped down into a nest, it felt as if her whole body ached. The raking claw marks down her front legs had initially stained her legs red but now the blood had time to darken and stain her white fur.
Her vision was blurred but nearby she could still manage to make out the vague shapes of Snakeheart and the body of Loonpaw - as well as the medicine cat's frantic efforts to try and save a life already lost. The search for wounds to patch and the up and down motion of trying to force air back into an empty body. Darkness closed around the edge of their vision and their head hit the mos with a thud, the last of their energy running out before they fell into a fitful sleep.
