A Fluttering Web
[Sorry this took so long to get up!]
Cobwebpaw watched as the molly stared at the leaf, thoughts starting back up. Was I clear enough? Was that a stupid hint?? Gah, why did he have to have such a weird name? Couldn't it have been easier?? Like.. like- Webpaw! That was easy. Cobwebpaw?? Too long. Too odd. Even his siblings - wherever they were - had normal-ish names! Except for Deathpaw... his parents had perhaps got a bit too creative there. He bet Toadpounce had come up with that one.
His pale gaze returned to Flutterpaw as she began to speak. Spiderleafwebpaw?? A grin broke out on the tom's face, and he joined her in the laughter, actually audible this time. For a split second his chest seized with terror, his brain quick to try and make him anxious about his loud laughter, but he was swept away by the hilarity again, sitting back on his haunches as he continued to giggle. He managed to reign himself into to barely controlled snickering as Flutterpaw apologized through the gasps of laughter. He shrugged in response; it had been his fault for being so vague, and it had led to a pretty amusing circumstance. He pointed once more towards the web, eyes inquisitive as he hoped his meaning was clear. Want to try again?
He honestly did care too much about his name, Flutterpaw could call him whatever she like, but most cats insisted on getting it right. Frankly, he didn't see why cats were so fussed with names. Take spiders, did they have names other than the ones he gave them?? No. And they did fine! They went around, made their webs, and lived perfectly fine lives. Sure, it made communication easier, but some cats were ridiculously uptight about names. What their name was, what they'd name their kits, what their friends names were... it all seemed silly.
