Sparrowpaw looked around in confusion. He had zoned out a bit. What was going on? What had Dawnstar said? Oh Starclan had he just made a fool of himself in front of DAWNSTAR by looking like a slacker?

Who was this? The she-cat reeked of rogue, and there were cats attacking her. Ah. Dawnstar must have given the command to attack. He stared at the she-cat getting mauled by most of the clan. Should I join in? He wondered.

He wanted Dawnstar's approval, to seem strong, but as he gazed at the horryfing scene, he couldn't help but sympathize with her. He had gotten lost too (specifically kidnapped but who cares) and had had to come back to Shadowclan, the idea of finally getting back to your clan - your home - only to get viciously attacked by them.

What are you, a mouse-brain? Sparrowpaw shook his previous thoughts away. This cat's a traitor, just listen to what the other cats are and were saying about her! You - I shouldn't sympathize with her! Let's see... He would go in once there would be a bit less cats.

Snooze... Snooze... Snooze...

It really shouldn't be possible for a cat to fall asleep sitting up but here Wolfwhisper was. His head drooped into his neck fluff, eyes fluttering close for a moment as he staggered. The 'voices' kept him up all nightt! His poor beauty sleeppp! At least they were beginning to become less frequent.

Then suddenly the short warrior was aware of someone's presence near him and Wolfwhisper snapped awake. Seriously, his head jolted up in such surprise he would've fallen over if he hadn't caught himself. "I wasn't sleeping!" Wolfwhisper declared suddenly in his defense before someone could accuse him. [He was just resting his eyes]

Then he realized it was just -- "Oohh, helloo! How are you?" Wolfwhisper meowed to Leaffeather, offering a lopsided sleepy smile to the molly. Most cats in Shadowclan would lecture him but he was like, pretty sure this one wouldn't. Hopefully. He didn't want a lecture.

Dawnstar lost all interest in Duskfern as soon as she let the clan at her. Tigerpaw stated something obvious and stupid, which didn't really answer her question at all. She wasn't exactly expecting the tiny kittypet to start meowing up a storm. If she wasn't as amused as she was, Dawnstar might have snapped at kit for speaking. Pippa, what a ridiculous name. Who the hell was Shimmer? Dawnstar's mood soured at the thought of dealing with two kittypets.

The kittypet kept chatting and chatting and not shutting up. The fact that she continued to call the clan a group was somewhat insulting. She seemed eager and willing, but this kittypest didn't know what she was asking for. Kittypets were dumb and lazy, this kittypest, regardless of the enthusiasm was no different. The quivering legs drew her eye, but the lack of fear scent made Dawnstar assumed that this was either excitement or nervousness. Whatever the reason, it didn't make Dawnstar want to take in an extra softpaw.

Dawnstar gave a low warning snarl that bellowed deep from the back of her throat at Tigerpaw's choice of words. What was with cats these days thinking they could tell her what to do. She didn't have to do anything! Her intense glare was torn away when Buckpaw spoke up. Buckpaw won some points with the leader purely for not telling what she should do and being more straightforward.

"Tigerpaw, mind your tongue. You," she spat looking at the kit, "I'm not sure what to do with yet. I don't like trespassers and I hate kittypets even more, your enthusiasm is admirable, but I'm not interested in babying a kittypest such as yourself. Though you're young you've lived a life far too easy for ShadowClan, there are three softer clans I'm sure would take in a kittypet. Why don't you go pester one of them?" Yes, Dawnstar could use more loyal warriors, but she was picking those out as she found them. She was desperate enough to take in the first kittypet that promised loyalty. The excited eyes full of life, those were the eyes of a cat who's never had to pray to the star for their next meal, never had to run, fight, or hide, from a night full of predators. Never had to take the life of another cat just to save their own.

Dawnstar might have been judging the cat a bit too severe, but she's heard and seen of loners and rogues just as young as the chatterbox who have lived far harsher lives. Though they were despicable, she'd take an outsider who's learned how to survive the harsh wilderness over a weak kittypet any day. "I don't think you have what it takes to live in ShadowClan, kittypest, I'm not wasting one of my warriors on mousefodder."

Tigerpaw hurriedly looked for words. She knew how much Pippa wanted to join ShadowClan. She had seen it from first seeing her that she had wanted to join. She knew that Pippa would stay loyal, and she would mentor her if she could! Pippa was something ShadowClan needed, something to brighten up the Clan. Every other kit seemed... subdued. They were darkened by Dawnstar's strict way of leading. But Pippa and Shimmer were something different. Why couldn't Dawnstar see that? But Tigerpaw couldn't tell Dawnstar that.
"Please, Dawnstar. They can learn to be..." What was it Dawnstar wanted them to be? Harsher? Stricter? Deadly? "Be like a ShadowClan cats. If you'll just give them a chance." But deep down, Tigerpaw knew nothing could work. But she just had to try.
"I'll watch them myself," Tigerpaw added hopefully. If Dawnstar didn't want to watch them, Tigerpaw would. She would make sure Pippa and Shimmer did everything they needed to do to join ShadowClan. She had to.

~ PIPPA ~

Pippa's ears pricked excitedly as Dawnstar spoke, then her long tail drooped somewhat as the leader talked. She had a really harsh tone, but that wasn't it. The leader was saying that she was... weak? At least Dawnstar thought something good of her! She puffed out her small chest somewhat and kept her head high, not wanting to appear weak or anything of the sort. But Dawnstar thought that her being a kittypet made her weak? No fair! Pippa really wanted to dedicate her life to one of the cat-groups. Oh, the leader looked offended, had she said something? She hoped not, but she wasn't sure what these cats fully wanted.

She hesitated when Dawnstar was finished speaking. Pippa was normally a lot more oblivious than this, or excited, but she'd just gotten more advice! She wasn't wanted here, was she? And there were three other cat-groups, three more of them! Tigerpaw was being super nice, but Pippa had a feeling that they might not want her here. That was pretty sad, since she wanted to be big and mean and strong, but she could do that with another cat-group, couldn't she?

"Okay!" she mewed, all her cheerfulness returning. "That's okay. I would've really, really, really liked to join and learned how to be really strong and stuff, but if you don't want me, then I'll find another one of the big groups. I'm really sorry that I wasn't, like, okay enough, because I do wanna be strong and stuff, but I'll find another thing." She didn't know what Tigerpaw was talking about when she mentioned Dawnstar slaughtering cats. Dawnstar seemed kinda nice! "Sorry for bothering you, I'll let you do whatever to that cat over there." Dusk-something. As far as Pippa knew, she was a traitor! Even though she wasn't in the shadow-group, Dusk-cat must've done something really, really bad. She probably deserved it.

Pippa had first felt rejected, but now she felt really excited! There were three more cat-groups, and they all sounded fun and exciting and cool, and she really wanted to fight and hunt and have a lot of fun, but also go on scary adventures and be a hero! She turned to look at Tigerpaw. "It's okay!" she squeaked. "If she doesn't want us, then I'll have to show someone else how big and strong and brave I am!" She looked up at the three-legged apprentice determinedly, turned back toward Dawnstar with a quick dip of her head, and prepared to bound off.

Brokenbranch, as usual, was keeping to himself, the dark brown tabby tom hiding in the shadows close to the nursery. What with his history, he'd grown a fondness to watching kits grow and play, but never said it: He merely watched from the shadows and hoped not to scare them. Wrapping his tail around his paws, Brokenbranch blinked slowly. Hmm... there were a lot of kits. Where were their mothers? The mute tom looked about curiously, trying to find any she-cats looking for their kits.

Falconfeather stared at her apprentice. This. Was. Not. Happening. Tigerpaw was not making a fool of herself. Tigerpaw was not trying to help a kittypet join. Tigerpaw was not talking back to Dawnstar. She repeated it to herself over and over again, trying to convince herself that it was true. She could care less about Duskfern, whoever that was, but this involved her. In a way. If her apprentice got in trouble, it could be linked back to Falconfeather, and she certainly didn't want to get in trouble for being a bad mentor or something else mouse-brained.

Slinking over to the group she listened silently for another moment. Was the kittypet- Pippa, apparently- actually comfortable with Dawnstars rejection? Was she really that much of a weakling? Pathetic. Stepping out of the shadows cast by a particularly tall pine, Falconfeather finally spoke. "Tigerpaw, why are you helping this kittypet?" She hoped her disgusted glance at Pippa was convincing enough to disguise her thought. Why is she so determined to let Pippa join? And deeper inside a different question surfaced, Does she like her more than me?

With a sudden realization, the tabby she-cat spun around to face Dawnstar. "So sorry about my apprentice." More hesitantly she meowed, "And interrupting your conversation. I just couldn't understand the fact that Tigerpaw is helping a random kittypet." With a smirk that hopefully hid her uncertainty, she added, "Though I can't help but understand why she came to us first." After all, Shadowcln is the best. With loyal and cunning cats, it was completely true. As long as she doesn't try to kill anyone. Falconfeather cast a nervous glance at Dawnstar and waited for the leader to speak.

The brown tabby padded out of the warriors' den from a well-deserved nap. She jad been so busy with Foxstorm's gifts on top of her warrior duties. She sighed and padded towards the camp entrance. Maybe someone'll notice me and come hunting?
