➺ it had been a while since another apprentice had requested training from him. wormbite supposed it would be more productive if he invited multiple apprentices along this occasion. it would allow them to practice among each other and perhaps gain more awareness when they themselves were being stalked. besides, if he recalled there had been a recent event for basic battle training. this would offer them a chance to further expand on that knowledge.
the oriental entered briefly into the apprentice's den, searching for the one that had sparked this idea. "spiderpaw -- ambush training, " wormbite mewed briefly to rouse the feline if she was sleeping. he did not wait for her to rise however, quickly exiting just as swiftly. he made a quick pace towards the middle of the clearing, sleek tail flickering back and forth.
"apprentices! if you wish to learn more about stealth -- specifically the way of ambush, come with me, " he raised his raspy & low voice to echo throughout the clearing, offering a few brief moments for anyone interested to gather. it was all possible this would end up a solo session. still, he stood tall and waited. though, he was far from someone to wait an awful long time.

A call lightly invaded the dreams of the apprentice. Probably for the best, as she sneezed when she woke up. She didn't remember the dream, but her heart was racing and for a moment she thought there was water in her nose...
Spiderpaw blinked a few times and yawned widely. What did Wormbite-AMBUSH TRAINING!? Spiderpaw jumped to her paws and shook her pelt out, quickly grooming off a couple of bits of bedding that clung to her fur before slipping out of the apprentice den. She paused at the entrance when she heard the warrior's offer. She remembered a couple of cats that wanted some training. Sprucepaw and Seapaw coming to mind very quickly. And Vervainpaw... Oh, how she wasn't sure she wanted to bring her along as well, but what kind of cat would she be if she left her out? She felt like that would be pretty unfair of her. Just because Vervainpaw made her anxious didn't mean the other apprentice didn't deserve an opportunity to train.
The young tabby turned and peaked back into the den, not sure if the others would even answer. "Uhm... Sprucepaw? Seapaw? V-vervainpaw? If you want... Wormbite is offering ambush training..." She mewed into the darkened den, raising her voice a bit and hoping they heard. She supposed that, if they were interested, they would come out... but, of course, they didn't have to.
With her invitations given, the apprentice padded over to Wormbite and dipped her head. "Th-thank you... for agreeing to train with me." She mewed quietly. Despite how intimidating the older tom looked, his scent was actually quite soothing to her. She felt split in how nervous the warrior made her, since he looked and sounded pretty scary but smelled quite fragrant. Her sensitive nose twitched at the odd spice in the air as she looked back at the apprentice den, wondering if anyone would join her.

A timid voice pierced his dreams, much like the first time. Immediately recognisable... Spiderpaw! Yay! Vervainpaw sprung up as though she had been awake the whole time. "Ambush?? Stars yes! Who is training us, who else is coming, will I get to make more friends, are you happy you invited me along and when do we start??" The red and cream apprentice's breathless questions were all directed at her newest friend- Spidey. The tabby mix came over, giving his rough fur a quick clean, not that it mude much difference.

Sprucepaw blinked awake. What was going on? Training? Yes! A brightly colored apprentice was a bit loud, but at least confirmed that this was ambush training. Sprucepaw got up quickly, giving her peot a quick once over. She would not go out there looking like a slob! Training was serious business after all, if she was allowed to participate anyhow.
She followed Spiderpaw and Vervainpaw outside, blinking as her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the camp. When they did, she saw the warrior who would be training them. What was his name? Wormjaw? Wormbite. He seemed very experienced. Sprucepaw walked over, bowing her head to him. "Hello. We don't need to have had a lesson on stealth already,have we...?" Her voice was quiet as usual as she hoped to be able to participate.
Seapaw was lying in his nest, rolling some moss about under his paw. Perhaps they should visit the nursery, and see if they need anything? Or even the elders' den? They were becoming a frequent visitor to the nursery, but it struck them that visits to the elder's den were actually an apprentice duty too, weren't they? They sighed, picking up the clump of moss between their two paws, then dropping it onto the ground. It didn't bounce. Their chin leant on the edge of their nest, staring down at it. It wasn't exactly interesting. Their thoughts were disturbed, as Spiderpaw was called away by Wormbite. For... Ambush training? That was a thing RiverClan did? They'd had no idea.
Then, Wormbite's voice echoed out again. An open invite. Hm. Should they? They weren't all too certain - but then, Spiderpaw poked her head though the entrance. An invite? Suddenly, this was starting to sound a lot more enjoyable. They weren't all too familiar with the other apprentices she called, but they supposed they would be soon!
He trotted over, a calm smile on his face. "I'd like to join, please." He nodded at Wormbite. "Thanks for the invite, Spiderpaw" he went to give the apprentice's leg a nudge with his paw, as he settled down beside her.
He began to smooth his fur down with a paw, realising it probably looked a bit here there and everywhere, from him lying in his nest. The other two were already here, too. "Nice to meet you both!" He greeted them enthusiastically, voice cracking a little at the end. "Sprucepaw and Vervainpaw, I take it?" They tilted their head in a friendly gesture. They didn't actually know what Vervain meant - they'd have to ask at some point.

"That's me. Um, Sprucepaw, that is." The self-proclaimed Sprucepaw nodded to Seapaw, before quickly dipping her head towards Vervainpaw. "It's nice to meet you and Vervainpaw too. Thank you, Spiderpaw... for inviting us. You didn't have to."
Technically it was true, as Wormbite had called out an open invitation for training. The thought was what counted, though. This seemed like a pretty good group of apprentices, and Sprucepaw found herself wondering how many more would show up when she head a loud, familiar voice. Moments before someone bumped into her side, causing her to stumble. "Ah!" Her fur fluffed out in surprise. At least she didn't fall down, that would have been mortifying. Sprucepaw took a few moments to breathe and let her fur settle. "It's fine, Firepaw. Just be careful next time."

➺ the oriental supposed it was a blessing he didn't have to wait long until apprentices came skittering to him in the clearing. he dipped his head towards spiderpaw, an acknowledgement of her gratitude. admittedly, he couldn't recall the last time he had been surrounded by apprentices. it was intimidating but nonetheless wormbite would .. adapt. or die, he supposed.
"no, sprucepaw. i will teach you all how to blend into the shadows, " he replied in his typical, monotone voice. he would nod each time someone ask to join until he sensed there were five apprentices. a pawful, but an even number. (though one of the apprentices would end up paired with him.) his tail tip twitched before wormbite suddenly rose to his paws.
without another word, he made a swooping gesture with his tail to signal the apprentices to follow behind him. the warrior would limp at a steady pace throughout riverclan's territory, traveling to where a thicket of marshy undergrowth resided. saltmeadow marsh was still quite a distance away but he could still smell the pine scent of shadowclan.
when wormbite was fully satisfied with the possible hiding places around them -- reeds, grass, rocks and all he stopped and turned to them. "i want two things from each of you. tell me the most important thing to keep in mind regards of stealth. show me how to step quietly across the floor, " he started off, whilst the tom was fully blind he still made an effort to allow his cloudy gaze to drift amongst (what he believed) to be their approximate locations based off scent. he was curious to see what their first impressions were.

-- if you have not responded to the most recent wormbite post within 1 week you will be bumped. if there is no response you will be skipped after three days. however, you are free to rejoin the roleplay at anytime but keep in mind the absence will be noticed in roleplay (& your character may need to be filled back in / etc.). this is only if you do not communicate that you need more time or something / etc. .

Oh, stars. Vervainpaw was the first one out and he quickly threw a barrage of questions at Spiderpaw. Her ear twitched nervously at them. Firepaw, too, bouncing around. She immediately appreciated calmer nature of Seapaw and Sprucepaw. "Uhm... Everyone... here... Wormbite is teaching..." Despite thinking it a bit obvious, considering she was now surrounded by others, she didn't want to be rude and not answer the other apprentice's questions.
She nodded back to Seapaw and Sprucepaw. "Of course." She mewed at their appreciation. She was happy that they were here to balance out the hectic energy of Firepaw and Vervainpaw, for sure. She even winced when Firepaw ran right into Sprucepaw. This would be... an interesting lesson, to say the least. At least they would all get to train, though. She was not exactly looking forward to vervainpaw to speak constantly, but she did know that the other apprentice could be quiet when she needed to be. The idea that Vervainpaw could use Spiderpaw's voice to try and trick Wormbite into thinking he had found her instead of him was dismissed. Surely, he could tell the difference, anyway, right?
The warrior swept his tail and Spiderpaw quickly followed after him, trying to keep up as best as she could. A new scent touched her nose and her ears perked curiously. It smelled like a clan... was that shadowclan, maybe? The only border she hadn't yet been to was just out of reach to the apprentice. It crossed her mind to get a little bit closer, just to know for sure... No, no. That would be no good. Instead, her attention was drawn to Wormbite as he asked them a question and gave them an exercise.
Spiderpaw tilted her head. What was the most important thing about stealth? "Awareness?" She asked more than answered. She wasn't sure. Maybe she should've said something simpler, like being quiet or staying out of sight... Oh, too late now. She'd already said it. She just felt like both of those things required awareness. Attention to detail. How could she be quiet if she didn't know what she was stepping on? How could she stay out of sight if she didn't know where the thing she was hiding from was? Her nose twitched as she doubted her own answer, but she moved on anyway.
She wanted to focus on the training, so she decided to put her "awareness" to work. Spiderpaw took note that Wormbite was blind, but that could mean that his hearing was actually better than hers. She needed to be careful with her steps. The ground was soft and wet. She had to be very careful not to make a sound, and she worked on avoiding the softer patches of earth, even stepping on stones where she could so that her paws made as little sound as possible. She moved slowly and carefully, avoiding her fur and paws brushing against anything. Avoiding the squelch of stepping in overly wet earth. It was natural to put her back paws where her front paws were as she moved to avoid finding anything new where she couldn't see.
Before long, she was behind Wormbite, where she sat on a dry rock, finally letting her tail brush the stone and make a little bit of noise. "Was that good?" She mewed, tail tip twitching anxiously as she wondered just how well she had done. She glanced back at the other apprentices curiously. She did want to know their answers, and see how well they did.
