Wolfhive was silent when he entered Bumba's den, still reeling from the news of Springlight's fate. Notably, he was angry - furious that an owl had taken a cat he cared about. If he'd been out in the territory more, if he'd patrolled, if he had gone with her, maybe---
Maybes meant nothing when it didn't bring back the dead. His claws flexed against the wooden floor, a low growl rumbling in his throat. "Do we know where this thing lives?"
Scarlet still tainted Bumblestar's paws. Blood was usually a trophy, a token of a battle, either won or lost but fought regardless. Not this. She'd have to wash it off in the river later, after she had worked out the route to go with the owl and planned the vigil and calmed herself down.
The others might sit, but Bumblestar remained standing, claws curling into the bark beneath. "I don't know," she rasped. "I think somewhere around the Cove. Her... We didn't find any sign of her. It might be somewhere in the outskirts, if we didn't see her in the Cove. I'd have to go out looking to be sure."

The tripod still felt kinda rattled and shocked on the wake of that announcement, the knowledge that Springlight was just gone now. Mudhound had really liked miss feather-fluff, ironically enough bringing her large owl feathers she'd asked for on several occasions. It just... Seemed so random and cruel even though the maine coon knew this was just how life could be sometimes.
"She's really gone? Like theres no hope at all, at all?" The hope was desperate but deep down resigned already, the large cat drooping as they slunk into Bumblestars nest in a sort of self comfort.

He followed behind Bumblestar and Wolfhive as his name was called. Pawpads scraping against the floor. They got bested, by a damned Owl?? It made his blood boil thinking about it.
"Thing can pick up a whole cat with ease. How do we plan on killin it?" he asked as he walked in. "Owls are...fickle things, we'd have to get it during the day, and keep an eye out at night from what I'm rememberin."

Twisting her head around at the sound of a familiar voice, Nightgaze gave a bright grin of greeting as Wolfhive came into her line of sight. "Oh, Hiya, Wolfy! Comin'!" Trotting bouncily after him, a few moments after. She'd kinda guessed what it was about but knew nothing else.
Gaze briefly flitting over the den, she turned her attention to Wolfhive. So Boss had accepted her, huh? Felt surreal. Unexpected, because she had here doubts that Bumblestar would want to reinstate her after she failed last time but seemed she had earned herself a second chance. No way she could let it go to waste. "Really? Wow...I can start as soon as I'm needed! But, sure, guess I do need to learn what's new since I was last one. My head's blank at the moment so no questions right now."
Unusually solem, Nightgaze silently trailed after the others. The death of the medicine cat had been a horrible shock, it seemed to have left everyone bewildered and upset even her cheerful self. Tail tip flicking softly against the ground, she listned attentively as the talking started.
Not much information on that wicked owl. Still, there had to be something they could do to avenge Springlight's death, to bring comfort to the ones close to her. "Mabye we could lure it out from it's nest, when we find it, with prey or something, and set up an ambush." She suggested, a bit wary about voicing the idea. Could be risky and lose resources in the process...but was it worth it when other cats lives were at stake?
Yeah, Wolfhive wasn't quite sure what Kestrelpaw was thinking.. actually, he was pretty sure he knew exactly what she was thinking. He twitched his whiskers, stepping out of the den to get a closer look at the noisy apprentice. He was.. worn out, exhausted. Almost two moons of being sick would do that, and he was glad he was getting better.. didn't really want to spread anything. "I don't think anyone wants to pretend to be that crabapple, Kestrelpaw." Mountaintalon.. dude looked like he had some stick wedged up his ass with how sour he always looked.
"Been sick." Quiet, factual. Wolfhive sighed as he settled down outside the den, resting his head on his paws as he watched her. "Happens sometimes, since I was around your age." That was around the time the poisoning started.. his stomach twisted at the memory. "I'm only a season-cycle or so older than you, y'know?"
Only a season cycle older?? For a few moments, Kestrelpaw genuinely attempted to puzzle out this mystery. That couldn't be. Wolfhive was... older. Than her. Thus, old. But he wasn't as old as Mr. Fleck, or else she would call him something along the same lines. Nuh uh though. Papa wouldn't like it, so Kestrelpaw didn't like it. Oh no! Why was she talking to the cat Papa didn't like?
That question would remain unanswered because Kestrelpaw was too much of a coward currently to face the truth. Or maybe she was too proud to admit the truth? Which was it? Probably the latter.
Like a delayed lightbulb finally clicking on, the blue-eyed apprentice blinked rapidly. "Papa isn't a crab... crabapple? What's a crab? Is it a good thing? Actually if it's a good thing then I'll go tell Papa he's a crabapple. Nobody can pretend to be him because he's so cool." A pointed look in the Head Hornet's direction. Hmph. Pretending to be Papa was so... she couldn't think of a synonym for un-cool.
Speaking of un-cool... sick? Curiosity instantly won over her mock facade of grouchiness (if Mountaintalon looked so cool being grumpy, so could she). "Why'dja get sick, huh? I never been sick before, or at least I don't remember- hey, I'm nine moons! I'm not little! And I'm going to be the best warrior ever, even better than you, yknow?"

Against her better judgment, her paws (curse you!) were moving on their own and she found herself within the log that the leader called her home. ”B-b-bunbe-bumbly-b-Bumblestar–” She stopped. She messed up. She was going to die. How could she mess up so badly!? ’Mommy, Daddy, I’m about to be sent to StarClan with haste – I love you all.’ She said in a silent prayer, tears welling within her eyes because of her mistake. ”M-m-m-m-may I s-speak with y-y-you, p-p-p-p-p-p-please?” The tortoishell apprentice whimpered, legs shaking uncontrollably.

It was as if the voice of her leader sent a reminder through Hawkcatcher's body. Loyalty, which for her was respect, washed over her. It cascaded over the fury, and grappled with it, before finally pinning it down as the massive warrior stepped in.
"I was out hunting, near the outskirts... I smelt fox... and found Dovefluff's fur scattered around, joined by blood smears and the stench of a fox." Now the claws came out again, sharp tips poking out between the brown fur of her paws, and briefly reaching the ground. "There was no body or anything for a burial, nor a clear enough scent trail to follow as far as I could discern."

Why was there a child blubbering outside of her den?
Bumblestar re-entered camp with moss and several sprigs of lavender clamped between her jaws. She'd been out to collect new materials for her shared nest with Violetfreckle and Wolfhive, in hopes of dragging them both into a cozy cuddle-pile later, but apparently that vibe was to be ruined as soon as she returned to camp.
With a scowl and a disgruntled sigh, she flicked at Swanpaw's shoulder in a silent gesture to follow her as she slipped inside the den.
