Coyote Invasion

Lupinegaze had been frozen with fear for so much of the beginning of this fight. The sound of yowling, howling and snapping jaws making her body seem to slow down and enter a panicked state. Her mismatched blue eyes watched as Quicksilver swung by, ordering a cat to take Lynxkit. Just like that one of her four kits was swept off towards the river. The next was grabbed as well by Oddear, and dashed to safety. That had left her with Silverkit and Moonkit.

Finally snapping out of the cold fear that thundered through her chest, she nudged Silverkit onto Brindlejaw's back. The kit was a little older and would be strong enough to hold on at least. Then she scooped the mewling Moonkit up by the scruff and ran, leaving Silverkit in the tom's paws. There was only so much she could do afterall, and she needed to save her own hide from any possible damage. So with Moonkit wailing in annoyance in her jaw she dashed towards the river.

The woods passed by her in a blur, the kit in her jaws slowing down her efforts as it bumped against her forelegs and the long fluffy fur caught in brambles. Though she did make it, the coyote's fearsome noises faint now. She set down Moonkit and tasted the air, wondering if her other two kits had arrived to safety. It would be good if they had... She didn't want to look like she wouldn't have defended them with her life afterall. She padded in a quick circle, calling out for them to try to regroup and calm them down. Out here in the cold of night they would need a warm body to keep them warm.

"Silverkit?! Lynxkit?! Peonykit?!" She blinked through her blurred memory, trying to picture who had taken each kit. Oddear, Brindlejaw and Quicksilver. Her eyes searched franticall for them as well as she called out their names in hopes that they would return her kits to her safely. "Quicksilver? Brindlejar? Oddear? Have you seen my kits?!?"

She hoped they would all be led to safety soon, they wouldn't survive without sickness for the tiny creatures for long!

Another little smile unfurls over her maw as the kit questions her. She does her best to get the little guy moving though, as they really needed to get out now. Their Clanmates were wrapping things up, looking for stragglers, and she didn't relish the thought of being left behind or one of the coyotes suddenly taking interest again. Stooping over now and then, Elderpaw keeps Boulderkit going at a pace that her mentor might not find fault in, although she wished he'd just pick the kit up instead of making her walk with him.

"Did you hear Twilightstar's plan the other day?" she asks the kit, her voice light as she forces a note of whimsy into her tone. Maybe the youngster wouldn't notice, but she was trying her best not to cringe and whimper herself. "She said we would all be at the river. I bet that's where eeeeeveryone is right now, too! It's not that far, either, you know. When I first went out into the territory, I thought it'd be huuuuge! But actually, it's kinda perfect." And so, the little apprentice yammers on and on to the kitten she was tasked with escorting. Not about much in particular, but words that filled the white noise surrounding them, although just as Boulderkit's words had gotten muddled, so too did hers.

Maybe it takes them a while, but considering most of their Clanmates also suffered blows or losses or were carrying others who couldn't make the journey themselves. But the river comes into view in no time, although maybe poor Batglare could have done without his apprentice droning on and on and on. When the sound of water reaches her ears though, Elderpaw finally lets her voice rest, lifting her head to gaze upon those who made it. "Look, Boulderkit," she mews cheerily to him. "It's our Clanmates! I bet there's someone we can help you find, like your mom?"

It wasn't easy, but he did manage to continue moving. His paws were big and he would stumble often, but he kept moving, staring ahead at nothing in particular, just focused on moving. He was thankful of the apprentice nudging him and keeping him moving, he felt safe. Like he wouldn't be left behind. Even if he fell, even if he stumbled, she was there behind him, along with the other cat, Batglare.

The words faded in and out of the wild din, but Boulderkit focused on them. Something about the river, that's where everyone was. That his mom. She would be there. And something about the.. Territory. It was huge? No, she said something else. It was okay, he didn't have to focus on that. They kept moving, his paws plodding along. He made sure not to go too fast, that's when his paws crossed each other. He was doing good. And before long it seemed they reached a throng of cats near the river. His clanmates. But he was tired, he could feel his breath rattling out of his lungs and he let himself flop down with a huge huff of breath.

At the mention of his mom he would perk up though, his brightening up. "I want to see my mom!" With his own waning strength he would push himself back up to his paws. Where was she? Where was Stoneflash?

After making sure Yewpaw was on her feet and getting away, Quicksilver heard the screams of who he could recognize as Cowpaw. He turned to see the tomcat coming towards him, his apprentice's eyes wide with fear. "Yes, to the river, we've got to get out of here!" His side was hurting terribly, and it was getting a little hard for him to breathe, and he glanced around the clearing at the coyotes still viciously tearing apart the camp. Thankfully he and Cowpaw were close to the camp's exit. He nudged the tom towards the exit, beginning to make a break for it, but spotted a coyote snarling at something small on the ground. He soon recognized the small ball of fluff as Peonykit. "Cowpaw, get to the river! I'll be right behind you!" He yowled before he made a sharp turn and headed straight for the coyote getting closer to Peonykit. He ran in front and scooped up the kit's scruff between his jaws, turning to run the other direction. Unfortunately the coyote was closer than he'd thought, and it snapped at him, it's teeth grazing his rump and causing him to stumble and fall. He geld his head up, trying his best to keep Peonykit from getting hurt, and stood, ignoring the pain now in his haunches. And then Quicksilver just ran, as fast as he could out of camp, with Penoykit dangling from his jaws. He found Cowpaw, coming to a trot alongside the tom. "You stick with me, okay? I don't want you wandering off, we could still be in danger. Let's reach our clanmates as fast as possible." He could spot Windclan gathering near the river up ahead, but it would still be a bit before they reached them.

Lynxkit had kept her eyes closed the entire time, she didn't want to see anymore of it. She was still shivering, her entire body shaking with fear and cold and probably shock as well. "Mama. I want mamma. Mamma." She kept mumbling, her stub of a tail quivering as she curled up on the ground, ignoring anything else that was going on. She only wanted to feel safe and warm again.

Whitesong sprinted with Songbird, injuries bleeding heavily.

He made it to the group by the river, and the adrenaline ran out, he collapsed on his side, breathing ragged. He was dizzy, in pain and so very tired.

He looked around, fear in his eyes.

Dawnsong let Coyotesnarl tend to her wounds as she nuzzled the only friend she had ever known. "Hey," she whispered to Violetkit. "It's going to be okay, I promise." @Fallenpine @wren

echopaws ears perked when she heard foxpudge tell her to move, oops guess I got caught up in helping rookflight I didn't notice... echopaw nodded to her mentor with an embarrassed look on her face, before she moved to rookflights other side and put gentle support on her side, but she tried to move a little when rookflight warned her about her wounds.

Violetkit smiled sadly, but then, she realized Dawsong had stopped bleeding. Her face immediately changed from being somber to beaming with excitement.
"I think... you'll be ok!" she exclaimed happily. "I have to go.. but can we talk later?" Her adult attitude went away and turned into pure kit excitement.
"See you later!" she squealed, running over to her mother.

(( realistically her wounds are fatal and she’s been bleeding throughout the entire battle ): unfortunately Dawnsong will have to die due to the fact Coyote doesn’t have anything to help her ))


The tom glanced up at Oddear “I fear a shallow grave will be uncovered by the snow melt.” he let his eyes flutter closed. “I’ll send Warbler and Honey... hopefully they could dig a suitable hole.. but I don’t want them out there alone.” he turned looking for Lynxstep but she seemed preoccupied with something else... and he wanted Oddear here with him. As much as he didn’t want to admit it.. this was morbid to watch. His first patient who would die. He shivered and blinked out of his trance briefly. “Never mind that. We will worry with that later.” he’d cover her with grass just to keep the body out of site and do a proper burial when he had the time. He had already asked the three toms too much.

Brushing by the pair of apprentices blocking her body his tail gently ran down Warblerpaws back who had been comforting Honeypaw. He’d thank both toms later.. now didn’t seem like the appropriate time. He bent down to the she cats level offering a glance to Violetkit. He was tempted to send her away.. which ultimately he had to do anyways but he wasn’t exactly sure when the she cat would pass. “It’s fine. Now go find your mother. You’ll need to be strong for Dawnsong won’t you?” he said quietly his eyebrow raised slightly. Mustering up as much sympathy as he could he reached out a paw to gently place it on her forehead. “StarClan would be proud. Now they are ready to welcome you home.” he rasped quietly against her ear before pulling back. “You’ve done them well.” and got yourself killed. “now rest Dawn... I’ll be sure to keep an eye on Violetkit for you.” he mrrowed in a low tone.
