Flytail
48 Moons
He/Him
Purrks:shadow fiend
Flytail watched the camp from his usual spot near the bramble wall, tail twitching with the kind of restlessness that didn’t come from boredom—it came from thinking too much. Newtbelly was younger, quicker maybe, but the kid had guts. Flytail respected that. Still, respect didn’t mean he wasn’t curious how they’d match up. When he saw Newtbelly padding past, Flytail stood, joints cracking slightly as he stretched. He caught up with the tom in a few strides, giving him a nudge with his shoulder. “Got time for a spar later?” he asked, voice low, like it wasn’t meant for anyone else to hear. He didn’t wait for an answer right away. “Been a while since I moved like I meant it. Figure you’re the best to knock the dust off.” He gave him a sideways glance, the corner of his mouth twitching just enough to hint at a grin—but there was something steady behind it. A challenge, maybe. A test. Not just for Newtbelly, but for himself too. “Don’t go easy on me,” he added gruffly. “Wouldn’t be worth it if you did.”

Newtbelly was cleaning his fur in the clearing. It was rare that he actually needed to - with it being on the short side, it was easily maintained. Still, it got a little grubby now and again. Flytail padded by - he considered saying something, but to be honest, his mind was blank, so he held off. Luckily, it seemed like the grey tom had something to say. A spar? Oh yes. Perfect. He was honoured to be chosen, too. "Better than later, how about now?" He gave a small grin. "And don't worry. I wouldn't dream of going easy." He didn't know if he could beat Flytail. He'd done okay against Smokefern, before getting his butt kicked, but her scars was evidence of experience. Flytail? He had no idea idea of ythe older tom's experience or skills.
Flytail’s tail flicked with a small, almost imperceptible twitch as he studied Newtbelly. His body language was calm, but there was an intensity in his gaze. "Alright, then. No backing down now," he said, his voice low but steady. He shifted into a more defensive stance, ready to see how Newtbelly would approach this. "Let’s see what you’ve got, young one." With a quick, fluid movement, he took a step forward, testing Newtbelly’s reflexes, keeping his movements sharp and controlled. This wasn’t a fight to the death, but he wasn’t about to hold back either. It was time to see just how well the younger warrior could handle himself.

Looks like they were getting started. He gave a small laugh to the young one comment, but didn't say anything. Now was the time to focus, not chit-chat. Flytail was stepping forward, but not doing much per se. Well, he couldn't just stand here - he darted forward, body close to the floor, and, with his claws sheathed, swiped at Flytail's paws, in an attempt to knock them from under him. It felt like a good start - a smaller move, but an effective one if it hit.
Flytail’s tail flicked, and his eyes narrowed as he saw the movement coming. A swipe aimed at his paws wasn’t unexpected, but it was still quick enough to make him react. With a fluid motion, he adjusted his stance, lifting his paws just enough to avoid the swipe. His claws remained sheathed as he took a half-step back, maintaining his balance. "Nice try," Flytail murmured, his voice calm but carrying a hint of approval. He was already thinking ahead, not allowing himself to be caught off guard by a move that was meant to trip him up. "But you’ll need more than that to take me down." He didn't immediately counter—he was gauging the other’s timing, waiting for the next move.

Not moving huh - he grumbled, but didn't say a word. He'd never been one to talk during a fight; He wasn't one to talk much at all though. He continued to move, not stopping to pause as flytail dodged. Then, flew back toward him, forepaw outstretched in an attempt to knock the tom's head with the force of his momentum. He needed to get Flytail moving - leaving opening, levaing space for him to try different things. Right now, there wasn't much he could do - but with a bold move like this? He hoped, at least, it would kick Flytail into action.
