Primroseadder emerged from the warriors’ den, stretching before darting into the shadows around the edges of RiverClan’s camp and slinking silently over to the apprentices’ den, where she reemerged to stick her head in its entrance and call out for her kit.

“Owlpaw!” The warrior mewed sharply, her voice quiet so only her apprentice could hear. “Rise ‘n shine, love. I know that you’re not used to wakin’ up this early, but you’re an apprentice now, ‘n you’re goin’ ta have ta get used ta it. Now, c’mon, get up. ‘m takin’ ya out for your tour of the territory today.”

Owlpaw was already wide awake and excited for the day. The small tom's paws were curling and claws digging into the moss of his nest. When his mother poked her head in, Owls perked up and race out, grinning. "I couldn't sleep mum! I was too 'cited!"

Primroseadder chuckled softly and nuzzled Owlpaw’s head with her maw when he had appeared at her side. “‘m glad ya were excited, Owls, but promise Mama you’ll get your beauty sleep from now on. You’ll certainly need it,” she commented, dipping out of the camp through the tunnel. “Now, ya won’t be seein’ Smallpines or Sedgewater Valley—RiverClan’s borders with ThunderClan ‘n WindClan—today. There’s otters lurkin’ at Smallpines, ‘n Sedgewater Valley is still closed. ‘m sure you’ll see them on patrols, though.”

The RiverClanner closed her maw for a few moments before getting herself together. “Alright, this is RiverClan’s general territory. Most of the huntin’ happens here, ‘n it’s also where the most herbs are collected. If ya find yourself on an herb or a huntin’ patrol, you’ll likely find yourself here.”

As the two kept walking, the trees grew thinner and the leaf-littered forest floor slowly gave way to sand. “This here is Lionsbeach. It isn’t known for good huntin’, but the occasional fish ‘n crab can be found on the shore ‘n taken home so long as no seagulls have gotten ta ‘em. ‘N we can take a seagull or two back ta camp as well, if we manage ta catch ‘em. They’re feisty little birds,” Primroseadder turned an affection green gaze on her son. “If you’re good ‘n don’t get inta trouble, maybe I’ll bring ya out here one day when I take ya huntin’ ‘n we can watch the sunrise together. How does that sound?”

Owlpaw grinned at his mother, bounding along as they walked, his large paws soon tumbling out from under him as he once again plopped muzzle-first into a puddle. The tiny tom laughed and hopped back up, smiling cheerfully as he continued to trot on with his mother.

Owlpaw gasped in excitement hearing about the possibility of watching the sunset with mama and hunting!

"I promise I'll be the bestest ever and be amazing I promise and ill.be super good and the goodest!" He squeaked.

Primroseadder gave a soft purr of laughter and led the way to the next landmark, her tail swaying behind her.

“Welcome ta Seagrass Fields, RiverClan’s burial grounds,” the warrior meowed quietly once they had arrived. “This is where RiverClan’s fallen members are laid ta rest. Stormstar is buried here.”

After giving Owlpaw a moment to pay his respects (and so did she), Primroseadder led the way to the only border that he would be seeing today—the ShadowClan border. She purposefully stopped a couple of fox-lengths away to ensure the safety of her kit.

“This is Saltmeadow Marsh, our border with ShadowClan,” Primroseadder mewed, her emerald eyes narrowing down to slits. She wrapped her tail protectively over her son’s shoulders. “Take in a whiff of their scent ‘n commit it ta memory. I want ya ta be able ta recognize it on future border patrols.”

Owlpaw shivered. The soft groans and whispers from the graves dug into his soul, both the good and the bad. The small tom quickly bowed his head before padding off, shivering as he followed his mother and mentor towards the shadowclan border.

He inhaled deeply, his lungs burning. Step closer. Be Braver. Owlpaw slowly padded closer towards the border, as if not by his own will, something drew him closer, pulling him in. Good... closer little owl... prove your worth to us.. Owlpaw paused when he was almost ontop of the border, eyes glazed over.

Primroseadder frowned, her ears flattened and her emerald eyes flashing with alarm. “Owls, love, come back,” she pleaded, her voice desperate. “It’s not safe, not that close ta the border. Please, little owl. Come back.”

The mother took a few steps forward, blocking Owlpaw’s path with her body. “No. Don’t ya dare go any further, Owlpaw. I will not allow it. RiverClan’s on good terms with ShadowClan. Owlstar won’t be happy if ya mess that up.”

Owlkit's glazed eyes slowly turned to look at his mother, a foggy, expressionless look on his brow, like he was out of his own body. Listen to her. Don't risk being found out. Owlpaw blinked, the light filtering back into his eyes as he looked at mama, blinking. Why did she look upset..?

"What's wrong mama? D-did I do something wrong..?" He whispered in concern, ears pinning.
