did no warrior want this young tom to succeed? He hadn't seen his mentor, another warrior blew off a training session and once more, Honeysuckle was left with absolutely nothing. He was trying his best to get his training done but was seemingly unlucky. Had... he even learned anything?

The apprentice let a frustrated sigh escape him as he flopped onto the ground. He KNEW his siblings HAD to be doing better than he was in his training. Honeysucklepaw pouted as he tucked his tail neatly around himself, narrowed amber eyes scanning the camp clearing. He needed training... Stars he needed training.

That's when he saw a somewhat familiar warrior. A she-cat known as Mosstangle- or something like that. He'd seen her take a couple of apprentices out, perhaps she'd be willing to take him out.

Honeysuckle quickly groomed his pelt before straightening up. Once he deemed himself presentable the young tom cleared his throat. He made his way over to the warrior, bowing his head in greeting as he neared.

Honeysucklepaw had yet to actually decide what he was going to say, but he figured he'd just go for it.

"Hey Mosstangle! I was wonderin' if you'd take me out for some training? I haven't... really seen my mentor since I was apprenticed" He said followed by a nervous laugh, his tail swaying gently behind him as he lifted his gaze to meet hers.

The longer she spent as a warrior, the more and more Mosstangle realized that she had been lucky to have the mentor she did as an apprentice. This was the third apprentice to approach her for training due to absent mentors! How could any warrior have so little pride and self respect! Well, this tabby had no intent to let these apprentices fail, even if she just became the impromptu mentor for all of shadowclan!

Oh, stars, that would be a terribly busy life.

Mosstangle dipped her head in greeting to Honeysucklepaw, trying not to let the irritation show in her eyes. She felt no irritation towards these apprentices, and didn't want them to feel like they were annoying her. She was starting to grow irritated with her fellow warriors. "Good morning, Honeysucklepaw," What a long name... she couldn't imagine how long it would be once he did earn his warrior name. "Of course, you caught me at a perfect time. Let's go find a good spot in the territory." She purred.

She padded out of camp, making sure the apprentice was not left behind. "Should I assume that you have had no training at all?" She asked, "Or have you been able to get a few lessons in with other warriors?"

Honeysuckle visibly relaxed as he nodded "Thanks- Yeah haha... haven't been able to find a warrior to actually take me out to do anything-" He murmured, shooting an embarrassed glance down at his paws.

"I bet Wintergreenpaw and Bittersweetpaw have more training than me" He said, a small pout crossing his face before he brightened up, looking back up to Mosstangle

"Until now at least!" He said with a grin "I'm a fast learner! I promise!" He said, nodding enthusiastically.

Mosstangle purred encouragingly to the younger cat. What a crime it was, to let an apprentice feel left behind by siblings and peers. "Don't worry," She told him, "You'll catch up in no time if that's the case!" The tabby had no respect for these warriors leaving their apprentices behind. She hoped that, someday, her intervention with these young cats wouldn't be necessary anymore. Until then, though, she had no intent on leaving any of them behind.

As the fog grew denser, Mosstangle's tail twitched. "Watch your step, Honeysucklepaw. We're coming up to the Darkwater mire. It can be quite treacherous, but there is prey in abundance here." She explained, making sure to lift her tail any time she avoided slippery surfaces or holes.

Finding a good, clear spot, the warrior turned to Honeysucklepaw and got into a hunting crouch. Balanced and comfortable, she started stalking a small circle so that the grey tom could see it from all angles. "Keep your crouch low, but let yourself be comfortable and balanced while you move. Go ahead and give it a shot."

He smiled widely, following along close to her side. His gaze scanned the territory, at least he'd gotten a territory tour, not that it was all that important. Honeysucklepaw sighed softly, turning his attention to her when she spoke.

The words were good advice, though by turning to face her he lost his footing, luckily only landing face first in a puddle of mud. The tom slowly pushed himself back onto his paws with a soft groan. He shook most of the mud from his fur, flashing an embarrassed smile Mosstangle's way. He continued their journey though, stopping when she did.

He watched her carefully as she explained the crouch, nodding along as she spoke. Once she was done he thought for a moment before mimicking her crouch to the best of her ability. He was a little too low, his tail and belly fur brushing against the ground below him.

"How's this?" He asked, looking up at Mosstangle through wide, bright amber eyes.

That made two apprentices that had slipped in the darkwater mire while Mosstangle escorted them through it. Perhaps she needed to learn some new routes to avoid this. The mire was treacherous, but, surely, there was a route somewhere around here that she could take these apprentices without them falling and possibly getting hurt. However, it just seemed that Honeysucklepaw would just be covered in mud for a little while.

The tabby watched the grey tom crouch, taking in his stance. She circled him, taking note of his position being just a little too low. "You need to lift yourself up just a bit. Your tail and belly fur will make sounds along the ground as you stalk that can alert prey." She told him. "But the width of your paws is good. It'll take a little getting used to while your muscles adjust to it." She purred.

He nodded, overcorrecting a little bit, but generally being fine now. He could at least succeeded with the position he was in. He looked up toward her through bright amber eyes, his tail flicking playfully behind him as he held the position a bit. His shoulders kinda burned a tiny bit, but it wasn't all that bad and was perfectly ignorable.

"Sick! I think I got it! Next is the stalk right?" He asked, lumbering forward awkwardly. He very obviously had no idea what he was doing, but he had the spirit. He grinned up at the warrior as he waited for further instruction.

"Very good," Mosstangle purred encouragingly as the apprentice adjusted his stance. He seemed pretty stable to her, but some things he would need to learn to self-correct as he went. It was impossible to teach any cat exactly how it should feel to crouch and stalk and pounce. She could only give corrections to major issues, really, and the rest came with experience as he learned to experiment.

"Yes," Mosstangle replied, "Make sure as you stalk, you lean weight onto the paws that will be staying put so that you're balanced as you move. No need to go quickly right now, just get the feel for it." Mosstangle instructed, showing him slow and steady motions as she stalked forward as an example before turning to watch him do the same.

The Shadowclan apprentice nodded along as Mosstangle spoke. He did as she said, decently well. His steps were a tad heavy but still barely audible. Honeysucklepaw tried a few times until he was able to pick up the speed and continue to demonstrate stalking accurately.

The tom grinned as he turned his head to look at Mosstangle, puffing his chest out a little, his tail waving behind him now as he awaited praise or instruction.
