Duskleaf
28 Moons | He/Him | Agatha Kitty
RiverClan Lionheart
Duskleaf sat down next to Irisdream, perking his ears up to listen as she spoke. His concern rose the instant she admitted something was in fact wrong, but he listened quietly to what she had to say. His heart sank when she mentioned that they might be incompatible, though he held his tongue to hear her out.
"Irisdream…I’m not bothered by our age gap, I’ll have my work cut out trying to find someone as beautiful as you, both your heart and on the outside." Duskleaf had been delaying saying how he truly felt, but it was now or never. He had to tell her right now, otherwise all could be for nothing.
"I never told you this, but…my mother was older than my father. I don’t mean by a few moons, they were quite far apart in age." He began, quickly realising that Irisdream might think he meant his birth mother, Mintwhisper. Though Duskleaf would often call the she-cat who raised him his mother.
"I mean Leafstream, not Mintwhisper. Leafstream was my father’s mate before Mintwhisper, and after." Stars, his family history got crazy sometimes.
"But what I mean is; it didn’t matter to them that they weren’t the same age, what mattered is that they made each other happy." He gave a bittersweet smile, hoping Irisdream would understand what he meant.
As Irisdream continued, Duskleaf smiled slightly, though his eyes betrayed a certain sadness as well.
"I’ve never met another cat like you, you’re elegant and beautiful even with scars, it doesn’t make a difference to me. You’re an amazing warrior too, I would trust you with my life over any other cat." He gave a smile, although it was somewhat accompanied by sadness.
"Spending time with you is truly the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I don’t know if you’ve realised just how much you’ve helped me, how much you’ve been there for me, even the little things like helping me train the apprentices, it means a lot to me. You helped me move out of this tree here and helped me get over my fear of sleeping in the warriors’ den." Those weren’t things he’d forget.
"There isn’t another cat in this clan or any other that I’d rather be with, you truly do mean a lot to me."
But he hadn’t said it yet, and Duskleaf feared that if he didn’t say it now, the chance might never come again.
"I love you, Irisdream. I really do, more than any cat in this world." He lowered his head for a moment, before meeting her gaze.
"Listen, I…I understand if you think we’re too far apart in age, I understand. If you don’t think we can be together and make it work…just say the word and I’ll be gone." He silently prayed to StarClan she
wouldn’t say that.
"But please…give us a chance."
