2.Kits may live with their mother for 3 moons, after that they must fend for themselves
3.No cats may live together, except high ranking cats
4.Cats must bring Scratch tribute in exchange for his protection
5.Sick or old cats should not be helped. They are weak
6.Failure to follow these rules is punishable by death

Rain stumbled through the alley, freezing in the pounding rain. How ironic. What she was named for might kill her. Clutched in her mouth, she held her tribute. Stopping in front of Scratch's den, she dropped her squirrel, rare in the twoleg place, and called into the den. Fluffs? I have tribute. She hoped he would accept it, and not kill her remaining kit. The other two had died, and this one was weak from lack of food, and in a short time, it would have to fend for itself. Rain didn't think Runt would do very well, but she would have to try. Scratch had recently decided no kits over 3 moons could live with their mother. @~RooRoo~

(Rain's den)
Runt was cold, but she decided to brave the world outside anyway. Her mom had said she would have to live on her own soon, so she decided to practice. She was soaked to the bone by the rain in a few minutes, but she padded on, searching for food. Finally, she managed to find some twoleg meat, and drag it back to their den. Dropping it, she curled up and waited for her mom to return.

Scratch was in a good mood, so when Rain called, he decided to go out himself. Alright. he mewed. It'll do. But he added, catching the look on her face, and her hasty turn to leave. Have your kit here tomorrow for her sending off ceremony. It's a new idea I've had. Oh, this was going to be brilliant, his sick mind squealed. The kit probably wouldn't make it, but oh well. There were normally more, right?

(Rain's den)
Runt? Rain called into the darkness. She always disliked that name, but what Scratch decread, it was. I found a something meaty! Runt called from inside. With a sigh, Rain squeezed into the den, and sat down next to her daughter. I have to tell you something. Scratch told me you're leaving me tomorrow, but first he's doing a ceremony for you. The way he smiled tells me it isn't good. So, whatever happens tomorrow, I love you. With that, the two she-cats curled up to sleep.

(Rat pile)
Scratch padded through the alley, towards the rat pile. Laying a cardboard box on it's side, he chased and rounded a few rats into it. Then he slowly pushed the box back to his den, ready for tomorrow's action.

Rain and Runt padded into the alley, and stopped in front of Scratch's den. We're here. Rain called, looking for their leader. She wasn't sure what a box was doing here, but the noises it was making didn't sound good. Scratch padded out, and motioned to Rain to come with him behind the box. Kit, you stand with your back to that wall. he called, motioning towards the end of the alley. Rain padded behind Scratch, with terror in her heart, watching her daughter press her back to the dead end. Leaping on top of the box, Scratch sliced it open, and released two rats towards Runt. With a squeal of terror, the tiny she-cat tried to jump the wall, but it was to high. She turned, and tried to bat one of the rats over the head, and succeeded, but the other one sank it's teeth into her leg. With a screech of pain, she leaped into the air, and came down hard, landing on one of the rats. This stunned it, but made it's companion madder. It leaped for her neck, and she managed to turn away just in time, it's teeth fastening into her shoulder. With a desperate squeal, she shook it off, and once again tried leaping the wall. This time, she hit the wall, and her tail exploded in pain, mashed into an odd angle. Still, she managed to find purchase on the bricks for a moment, and scrabbled, her hind legs dangling in empty air. With a desperate scramble, she managed to make it onto the ledge, but the rats were busy too. With a wiggle, they slipped under the wall, just as she leaped down the other side, landing awkwardly and twisting her paw. She felt the rats teeth fasten into her, and tried to shake free, but it was futile. Trying to run, she dragged the rats a few feet, and then lashed out with her claws, near where they held her. She managed to hurt one of them, and it collapsed back, but the other hung on. With a last, desperate struggle, she managed to claw it's throat, and stagger a few feet before collapsing. Before she went unconscious, the sound she heard was Scratch's laughing, and her mothers sobbing. When she woke up, she was alone.
