Barley is a stocky cat of average height. His fur is both white and golden- the golden parts covering his ears and the top of his head as well as his haunches and tail. Darker, orangey stripes are visible on the tail and become harder to spot on the haunches. His fur is of a short, bristly texture and he sports bright yellow-green eyes.

Barley tends to focus more on himself than others. He is a bit vain and definitely views himself as smarter than everyone else. He is far from confrontational, though, and thus unlikely to ever say such a thing to another cat. Barley doesn’t have much of a work ethic, nor does he have much of a longing to be a social butterfly. He’s pretty lazy and does the bare minimum when he has to work and isn’t the type to go running for friends to do things with. He also isn’t very imaginative, though, and doesn’t even like the company of himself. This puts him in a place he doesn’t want to be and results in Barley being a fairly grouchy cat most of the time. He lacks a filter and often says things that hurt other cats, but he never backs himself up as he doesn’t like fights. Barley struggles with boredom when he is young but also doesn’t feel the longing like most other kits to be the best warrior. He mainly just survives. His sense of humor is only wry, dark humor and sarcasm and he often drones or drawls rather than talking energetically. Yet, he finds that he can get his blood flowing by sparring and Barley makes a change as an apprentice to become slightly more energetic and less apathetic about everything. He remains lazy and keeps his droning voice and sarcastic tendencies, but has an easier time talking to others since he can talk about more than just dark jokes and vague insults.
