La Bête du Gévaudan

La Bête du Gévaudan [also known as The Beast of Gevaudan] was a creature that between the years 1764 and 1767 ravaged modern day Lozère, Causing the deaths of hundreds of people and injuring many more. It was described as a wolf-like being yet that was the only thing people could agree on. Some said it was like a calf while others said it looked more like a horse! Some said it had red fur or black fur or even a stripe along its back!
People who witnessed The Beast and survived told that the beast was an
ambush hunter. The Beast stalked his prey and usually killed by ripping out their throats.
Eventually, King Louis XV sent out hunters to finally kill The Beast. This included Nobles, Soldiers, Royal Huntsman, and even civilians! Even children were rewarded for fending off the beast! Though one of the only people who was able to wound the beast was Marie Jeanne Valet, The Maid of Gévaudan. While tending cattle, she was attacked by The Beast! She was able to defend herself by use of bulls charging the creature and also by jabbing a homemade spear into its chest! Injuring it, but not killing it. Later on, the beast was finally killed by a local farmer.
Now, what in the hell was The Beast?? Some believe it was a unusually sized wolf, or some sort of extinct creature that managed to go hundreds of thousands of years without dedication.
Others [myself included] think it was a... werewolf! A supernatural creature that took the form of a man, that was able to shapeshift into a powerful werewolf! Now whether or not this creature was caused by a bite from another werewolf, a witch or even people known as wolf-whispers is still mystery. Though I'd love to hear what your thoughts are!
