Skipper's Journey |:|OPEN|:|
The sun was setting.
Pale stars flickered beneath a painted sky of reds and oranges, violets and pinks. A young tom stretched his weary legs, looking to the sky and letting the newleaf breeze ruffle the tufts of fur on his ears.
Tonight was the night he moved on from this place.
He had made his temporary home in a small forest clearing, where birdsong echoed in the morning and the chatter of locusts could be heard at night. Everything about the forest glen emanated serenity.
But, like with every place he stayed, he must move on.
The young tom lived a solitary life: he moved periodically, journeying from place to place in search of adventure, or so he told himself. He traveled alone, with only his own thoughts and the ambient noise of the wilderness to keep him company.
But that was soon to change.
-------------------
Hey all! I'm looking for outsiders to join Skipper on his journey through the wilderness c: I'd like a small group of loners, rogues, kittypets, and/or Clan runaways to travel with him and possibly settle down somewhere with him eventually. Just go ahead and jump right in if you're interested!)

A four moon old kitten named River walked through unknown territory. The tom had been traveling for quite some time and didn't feel like stopping. He no longer had parents and was left by himself for a while. River's blue-gray fur fluffed up when he scented another cat. The kit looked at Skipper. "Hi stranger. I'm River.", he meowed with his southern accent.

Skipper was walking through the forest, in the direction of the setting sun, when he heard a small mew behind him. "Hi, stranger. I'm River. Startled, the cream-colored tom whipped his head around to stare at the cat who had spoken to him. How long had this cat been following him?
He was surprised to see a tiny blue-grey kit standing behind him. He looked hardly old enough to be eating real prey, let alone wandering by himself in the forest. Kit fluff stuck up around his ears in the late newleaf humidity.
"Hello, little kit," said Skipper in the most soothing voice he could muster. It had been a long time since he had talked to any cat, and even longer since he'd talked to a kit. "Are you lost?" Skipper was worried about the young cat; he didn't want him to get lost or hurt by himself in the forest.

River looked at him and flinched when he realized he had startled the older tom. He sometimes scared cats without really trying. The kitten shrugged when he asked if he was lost. "Not really. I have nowhere to be lost to, since I don't have parents.", he meowed. River just liked to wander around. He rejected the life of a kittypet, since he didn't feel that it was right for him.

"O- oh..." The older tom faltered. Why did this kit not have parents? He longed to know the answer, but feared sounding insensitive. "You look tired," he said, changing the subject. "I was thinking about setting up camp here tonight. Would you like to stay with me?" He couldn't let this young kit stay by himself in the forest.

River nodded at his question about staying with him. "sure. I don't have anywhere else to go and it is getting too dark for me to keep going.", he replied. The blue russian kitten let out a yawn and stretched his front legs. River was actually getting tired.

A wave of relief washed over Skipper. He had actually lied about the fact that he was about to set up camp; he had planned to keep going through the night, but River looked tired. The slender tom got to work clawing moss from a nearby tree. When he was finished, he was left with a pile of moss large enough for two large nests. He arranged the soft green bedding into two oval shaped nests under the shelter of a large oak tree. He purred with satisfaction at his work; it had been a very, very long time since he had made nests for two cats.

River watched him leave for a moment and come back with moss for bedding. He wanted to help, but thought that he might just let him do it on his own. When he heard his purr of satisfaction at his job he let out a smile. It had been a while since he had company with him and he licked it.

The young tom lay down in his freshly made nest, the fuzzy lichen brushing cozily against his fur. He let out a contented sigh. His muscles were sore from walking all day; it felt nice to rest. He turned to River. "Well, I think it's about time we tuck in for the night," he purred. "I'll catch us some breakfast in the morning; how's that sound?"

River nodded and laid down in the nest Skipper had made for him. "Thank you for making my nest.", he meowed. The blue russian cat rested his head on his paws and closed his eyes. River allowed sleep tto overcome him.
