Pondpaw felt a shudder run down her spine. This was the day of her assessment. The day of her assessment that would decide whether or not Pondpaw was ready to become a warrior. The blue-gray mackerel tabby closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath.

Lifting her head, her eyes blinked open. Pondpaw looked at Tuftedtusk. ´´Okay, I´m ready.´´

Tuftedtusk sighed deeply, staring at the sky as he waited for Pondpaw. This was it. What he had been training her for. Her final assessment.

Looking down at her familar mew, he would nod solemnly. "Good. Let's go."

Leading the way, he entered the territory. He would do this assesment just like he did Spiderpaw's. Stopping in a clearing, he would turn to look at her. "Okay Pondpaw. I'm going to conduct your assesment just how I conducted Spiderpaw's. First, you will use your stealth skills to creep up on me without me seeing or hearing you. Second, you will use your battle skills to try to pin me to the ground."

Sitting down, he would nod to her and look away. "Begin."

Pondpaw nodded and slunk quietly into the undergrowth. The former RiverClanner had grown quite accustomed to ShadowClan´s territory. Spotting a fallen tree trunk, Pondpaw jumped atop of it, pawsteps silent.

She could see Tuftedtusk from here, Pondpaw realized. Blue eyes narrowing, the ShadowClan apprentice crouched. The blue-gray mackerel tabby waited until the perfect moment to strike.

[ Pondpaw rolled a 20 - Successful Move ]

Pouncing, Pondpaw landed on her mentor´s back. She pummelled Tuftedtusk´s back at once with her hind paws before leaping down to face him.

Without hesitation, Pondpaw lunged and slunk beneath the bigger tom, using her smaller size to her advantage. She lashed out with a forepaw at the tendon in the Enforcer´s hind legs. If the blow landed, it would knock him off his paws and let the former RiverClanner pin her mentor to the grass with one forepaw at his throat and the other on his hind quarters.

The marbled tom grunted as his apprentice landed on him, wincing as she pummeled his back and leaped off.
Keeping a wary eye on her, he wouldn't be ready as she lunged and slipped beneath his stomach.

Tuftedtusk rolled a 10 - Unsucessful Dodge

With a yowl as his apprentices paw found the weakspot in his hindleg, hitting the ground with a thump. In a flash, Pondpaw had a paw on his throat and hindquarters.

"Good! Good!" He wheezed, blinking proudly up at her. "You passed this part. Now for the hunting portion."

Pondpaw got up and let him go, her tail whisking in the air. She held it high behind her. ´´Any specific types of prey you want me to catch?´´

The Deputy knew Pondpaw was due for an assessment, and while she would have preferred it be done by someone other than her mentor, Tuftedtusk was an Enforcer and therefore qualified to do it. That didn't stop the Deputy from slinking after them, slipping into the shadows of the foliage and following silently behind. She trusted Tuftedtusk to do his job, but it never hurt to check an assessment as it was happening.

The enforcer stood, shaking out his fur. He thought for a moment. "I want you to catch a rabbit, blackbird and squirrel." He rumbled, eyeing his apprentice. "I will be watching you unseen. Don't let me down."

Pondpaw´s whiskers twitched. ´´Got it.´´

With a nod to her mentor, the blue-gray mackerel tabby shouldered her way through the undergrowth. Pondpaw opened her jaws slightly to taste the air, rabbit scent hitting her nose at once. The former RiverClanner´s head whipped around in the direction of her quarry.

[ Kitty Softpaws Tier 2 has been activated. ]

The apprentice crouched, hind paws tucked as close to her belly as they would allow. Her tail hovered just over the pine forest floor. Frosty blue hues narrowed down to slits, and she slowly stalked forward, pawsteps silent and her scent blending in with her surroundings.

[ Pondpaw rolled a 20! Successful Catch, Clean Kill. ]

Pondpaw sprang, landing square on the rabbit. She gave it a swift bite to the back of its neck, not letting the rabbit have the chance to squeal in terror. Her prey went limp at an instant between her jaws.

Burying the rabbit, Pondpaw continued her search. Blackbird, blackbird, blackbird...

She spotted pecking at the ground and ducked behind a juniper bush, hoping that the scent of the berries would hide her own ShadowClan scent.

[ Pondpaw rolled an 18! Successful Catch, Clean Kill.

Pondpaw leaped, once again landing square on her quarry. Pinning the blackbird´s wings to the ground with her forepaws, the former RiverClanner bent her head and gave her catch a clean killing bite to the spine. The blackbird went limp.

Squirrel!

Pondpaw spotted a squirrel as soon as she killed the blackbird. Stuffing the blackbird gently in a crevice between two boulders, the ShadowClanner gave chase to the squirrel. The squirrel spotted her and ran, but the apprentice was faster.

[ Pondpaw rolled a 19! Successful Catch, Clean Kill. ]

Glancing around, Pondpaw spotted a tree that she could bounce off of. Leaping, she let her paws hit the tree and sprang again, cutting off the squirrel´s escape route as she landed gracefully on all fours. The squirrel tried to come to a stop, but it was unable to as Pondpaw scooped it up by the neck between her teeth. It went limp instantly.

Thank you, StarClan, for the prey I´ve caught today.

Shaking out her pelt, Pondpaw went back to the boulders and grabbed the blackbird before returning to the place she had buried her rabbit and grabbed it, too. Pondpaw headed back to the clearing where she had last been with Tuftedtusk and sat down, waiting on her mentor with the rabbit, blackbird, and squirrel all at her paws.

Tuftedtusk slunk into the shadows and vanished. Following his apprentice with quick and light paw steps, he watched her stalk a rabbit successfully.

Before pride could warm his fur, she buried it and moved on. Quickly following her he saw her shove a blackbird in a crevice. Seeing her gaze move to a squirrel, he wondered what she would do. He smiled as she used a tree to her advantage and nabbed the squirrel.

Turning tail, he headed back to the clearing, seeing her already there. Purring as he melted out of the shadows, pride was evident in his features. "Well done, Pondpaw. You have passed."

Finally, he had an apprentice who would become a warrior. He couldn't be prouder of the former RiverClanner. There was no trace of her former ancestry now.
