it's early morning when squirrelrise wakes up, tail flickering to cover her eyes from the early sunshine that filtered into the warriors den. she didn't feel like she was going to collapse from exhaustion or grief this morning, so that was good at least - despite how she wishes she could sleep just a tad bit longer. she has a job to do now ..aka, training an apprentice. wormpaw had been demoted, if she remembers correctly, and now she has irispaw. who, she'll admit, she's not familiar with in the slightest save for his name.

shaking her head, she rises from her nest and exits the warrior's den. making a bee-line towards the apprentices den, she warily peers in. ooh boy..a lot of them were still asleep. she shuffles her paws, hesitantly speaking up after a solid minute or two of just standing there.

"..irispaw.." she calls out softly, trying to make out the apprentices form in the shadows of the den. "time..for tr-training.." she continues on before taking a step back, waiting for irispaw to make his appearance.

Sleeping well, actually.
And then he heard his name.

A large ear twitched as he slowly raised his head.
Time for training.
Right.
How could he forget that's a thing.

They pushed themself up and walked over to Squirrelrise.
"Okay." He said plainly.

with irispaw exiting the den, squirrelrise gives a flick of her tail to gesture for them to follow before she heads towards the camps exit. "we'll be..doing a territory..tour f-first." she makes known as she leads the apprentice out of camp and into the foggy territory. with leaffall in full effect, it was a little chilly. ears perked and gaze flitting about warily, the warrior glances over to irispaw occasionally to make sure they were still following.

after some walking, the structure of the waterbarn comes into view. padding up to the crumbling structure of the mourning ruins, she slows to a stop and turns to face irispaw. "this..is m-mourning ruins.." she starts, pausing for a short second. "during a..raid on sh-shadowclan..it mysteriously burnt..down." she adds on, brows furrowing subtly. could it have really just caught on fire? hrrm. okay, anywho, back onto training. "any questions..?"

Territory tour.
Alright.

Irispaw follows Squirrelpaw silently to Mourning Ruins.
Caught on fire during a raid?
That's a bit odd.

"What clan was raiding?" First full sentence he'd said to a cat that wasn't related to him or just out of necessity in a while.
This made them a little curious.

squirrelrise glances away thoughtfully, tail swishing idly. "...windclan..if I remember..correctly." she answers. she hopes that there won't be a raid again in the future, windclan and shadowclan have been on neutral, if not good, terms as of late. if only it were like that with all four clans. shaking her head, she gestures for irispaw to follow her with a nod of her head before continuing to the next location.

after traversing through the territory once more, the ground grows softer and a thick layer of fog shields the forest floor. darkwater mire had little light and the warrior is almost squinting to peer through the shadows as she pads through tall grasses and pines, stopping a tree length or so away from the bog. "this is..d-darkwater mire." she says, glancing at irispaw. she's not sure what else to say about the area, so.. "if you..have no..questions..we'll head..to the next..landmark."

So WindCln had been the attackers.
Interesting.

Irispaw followed Squirrelrise to the next place.
Darkwater Mire. He isn't the buggest fan of this specific place so far.
Gunky.

He soon shook his head to Squirrelrise as a 'no questions'.

irispaw is a quiet one, that's for sure. which is perfectly fine with squirrelrise.

nodding, she leads the apprentice through the territory to the next landmark, occasionally glancing at them to make sure they were keeping up. the grass beneath her paws grew much more softer feeling compared to the pine needle covered ground of the majority of the territory, and the dampness of the mire. the trees slowly morphed into large giants, sunlight filtering through and providing much more light than the shadows she was used to.

"this..is d-dawning woods." she says, throwing a glance at irispaw. her ears swivel at the smallest sounds, and her maw threatens to form a frown. "often..there are...predators..near here, b-because..there is..lots of prey." foxes, coyotes, badgers, owls – none that she's encountered herself, but she's not eager to meet any. so, with a jerk of her head, she begins traveling to the next and last landmark. then, she's decided she'll move onto the borders.

evergreen grotto was one of her favorite spots in the territory, if she's honest. not a lot of prey, but it's abundance in herbs and generally peaceful energy made up for it. "evergreen..grotto," she begins, slowing to a stop just as she pads into the small clearing. "er..there..isn't a lot..to s-say about..it..but it's a very..nice s-spot." she falls silent for a few moments to allow the apprentice to inspect his surroundings before continuing on. "are..you up to..s-seeing the borders?"

[ @Idiotic.Bean101 decided to have two locations in this post so this won't drag on too long haha ^^ after this I'll probably do borders and then this lesson can be wrapped up if that sounds good! ]

One landmark was quick, Dawning Woods.
The predators must be why Squirrelrise was quick to leave.

Irispaw just continues to silently follow to the next location.
Evergreen Grotto.
Nothing... notable.

He looks at his mentor as she asks about seeing borders.
"Yes." They reply simply.

nodding, squirrelrise leads the way through shadowclan's vast territory once more. first border up is whispering wetlands. while the actual border gives her the creeps, she knows there won't (or shouldn't be) any problems if a windclan patrol shows up. stopping just before the scent markers, the warrior turns to her apprentice.

"this..is wh-whispering..wetlands. our border..with..windclan," she explains, feeling her mood dampen as featherblossom comes across her mind. forcing the thoughts away, she moves on, figuring this is a good time to have irispaw learn scents. maybe learn how to mark borders too. "what...do you..s-smell?"

WindClan's border was first.
Whispering Wetlands.

After being asked what he smells, Irispaw took a whiff.
"I believe... rabbits." He was a little unsure, since he wasn't fully sure what rabbits really smell like.
ShadowClan doesn't really focus on catching those, after all.

He also smelt... something else, but he didn't recognize it, so he didn't know the name. Probably some sort of signature WindClan smell.
