Hawkthorn blinked open his eyes. Why was he up again? He was... on a patrol? No. Hungry? No.. Oh, right! He had an apprentice now. Hawkthorn yawned and stood up. He shook his head to clear away the drowsiness and walked out of the den reluctantly. Hawkthorn thought.
It was his first time being a mentor. Sure, he had taught Antpaw a bit of stuff but a MENTOR? Hawkthorn shook his head. He was doomed. Or maybe not. Hawkthorn padded in a circle. He should take Burning-or was it Burned.-paw out on a border patrol. They would learn hunting moves after. Hawkthorn frowned. How was he going to survive?
Hawkthorn sighed and stuck his head into the apprentice den. "Burnedpaw. Burnedpaw?" He meowed softly. When no cat came out, Hawkthorn rolled his eyes and spoke louder, "Burnedpaw! Wake up!"

Burnedpaw opened his dark amber eyes, he could feel the coolness of dawn on his pelt. The light snoring of his denmates was so rhythmic and soothing, he almost didn't want to leave his nest. He looked over at the dark pelt of his sister, sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. It just reinstilled in him that this was what he was training and fighting for. Slowly and carefully, Burnedpaw sat up in his nest, craning his neck to groom his fur for the day.
His ears twitched when he heard a voice call his name. Hawkthorn. He continued to groom his pelt, wanting to be ready for his first official day of training. But then his mentor called him again, clearly growing impatient. Burnedpaw sighed, taking one quick moment to clean his face and whiskers with his paws, before emerging from the den. He dipped his head to his mentor in a respectful greeting, his gaze perfectly calm. "Good morning." He mewed. "Sorry for the wait." Burnedpaw only flicked an ear in acknowledgement of Hawkthorn's complaint. He didn't want to dwell on disputing why it had taken him a moment to answer his mentor's summons. However, he was going to say something when Hawkthorn said they weren't doing anything, but he never got the chance. I was just gonna say how wasteful that was... But it didn't matter, he had been joking.
Burnedpaw followed Hawkthorn's gesture, then turned to look back him. He tilted his head slightly to the side. "Wouldn't it be more efficient for us to hunt on the way?" Plus, he really did wanna get on the move and see the territory. Not to mention, this would undoubtedly mean a hunting lesson.
