It had been a day or two after her new apprentice had arrived and Nightgaze had decided that Splitpaw had had enough time to get familiar with the place. Though a territory tour would be the usual thing she'd introduce at the start of an apprenticeship, with all the danger that had plagued Thunderclan lately, she felt that it was better for them to know how to defend themselves first before exploring, even with her with them.

Pale sunlight dappled the clearing and the birds had just began to sing their morning symphony. The prime time for the start to any training day. Nightgaze carefully tip toed towards the apprentices' den, tail flicking with excitement. Poking her head through the mouth of the den, she yelled as quietly as she could. Silence wasn't exactly her forte. "Psssst, Split! Time to learn how to fight!"

Splitpaw's ear moved back as she heard her mentor call her name. She was in and out of sleep, awakening she yawned and turned her attention on her mentor who was at the apprentice entrance. Looking around she saw most of her denmates were asleep, not wanting to wake them she stood up and quickly dodged the cats in the den, careful not to step on them. Once she reached the entrance she greeted her mentor with a purr. "Good morning, Nightgaze." she whispered. Splitpaw was still tired but her gaze shown excitement for her first day at training. "What do we have planned today?"

'She must not be a morning cat either' Nightgaze thought amused as Splitpaw appeared, taking note of the apprentice's sleepy demeanour and slow awakening. Backing up a bit, she hummed at the question "Nothing too fancy just thought I'd teach ya the basics so you'll know how to defend yourself" she flashed a sneaky grin "If you're feeling up to it I'll show you a few tricks!"

Leading Splitpaw away from the den and towards the entrance of camp, the small hornet gave a untidy pelt a few brief licks in an effort to somewhat maintain it's decent enough condition before picking up speed. "C'mon! You can take in the sites while we travel!" Vivid green hues casually rested on the horizon, perked ears the only sign of her hidden vigilance as they journeyed to a secluded spot not to far from camp; her go to spot for training. After a few long moments, they arrived and Nightgaze whipped around with a fiery gleam. "Ready to learn how to become one of the fiercest fighters in the forest?!"

Splitpaw purred at her mentor and nodded. "Absolutely!" she purred. Standing up she followed her mentor toward the entrance and out of camp. Listening to her mentor speak about taking in the sites while they travel, she took to heart. Her gaze widen as she looked around at their territory and the beautiful scenery around them. Once they arrived at the destination. Splitpaw's heart thumped in her chest as she took in the training area.

"Of course! Please teach me!" her eyes glistened at her mentors words. She wanted to be the best and the fiercest in the forest. She wanted to make her mentor proud, her leader and her clanmates.

Nightgaze's fondness for this young cat was already growing. Splitpaw seemed ready to make Thunderclan proud of her and that in itself was a desirable trait. She'd make sure she'd learn and thrive so she'd become a respected warrior in no time! "Alright then! First the basics!"

"Front Paw Blow- Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. But make sure your claws are sheathed!" The small hornet did her best to demonstrate by attempting to gently bap Splitpaw's head in a downward motion. Simple, but still effective in a fight!

"Front paw strike or Forepaw slash, whatever ya wanna call it!-Slice downward with your front paw at the face, chest, legs and general body of your opponent. Those are the main areas but you should only really strike the neck if ya wanna kill someone and ya shouldn't do that unless ya have no choice." No killing unless necessary. Part of the warrior code, but some seemed to have forgotten it, unfortunately. Couldn't do it physically since it was pretty dangerous. She didn't want to hurt her apprentice. Still she did the move on the air, a good distance away.

"Belly rake- When in a tough situation, like when you're pinned down, claw the soft belly of your opponent and it'll put you back in control or even win the fight! But be careful your belly doesn't get raked!" To demonstrate, Nightgaze twisted onto her back and clawed the air above her with her hind paws before jumping back onto her paws. Painful for any cat on the recieving end.

"Teeth grip, basically biting- Target the extremities of your opponent, the legs, tail, scruff or ears. Sink in your teeth and hold. This leaves you with claws free and a vunerable opponent!" Could be very dangerous if you're the one who's getting attacked, especially if the enemy has super sharp fangs like some sort of snake cat! Sounded daft but she was sure cats like that were out there!

"Play dead- Exactly what it sounds like! In a tricky situation, like when you're pinned, go limp and stay still until you're opponent relaxes their grip, then, when they least expect it, psuh yourself upwards explosively. It should throw them off but don't use it too many times and only use it when you need to!" She'd reaped the consequences of this move when a Shadowclanner saw past the trick and ended up breaking her leg. Nightgaze had been wary of using it since.

"Scruff shake- Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponent's neck; then shake violently until they are too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, since they're small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them." Night had never fought rats before, glad she hadn't, but if she ever did, this move would be the one she used.

"Leap-and-hold- Ideal for a small cat facing a larger opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of the opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. Watch out for the drop-and-roll counter move, though, and try to jump away before you get squashed! Try it out on me! Don'tworry about unsheathing your claws!" Nightgaze allowed her apprentice to leap on her back and dropped down on to the floor at a speed in which she could jump away in time. Pretty good move for her since she was indeed small. Although, her enemies did usually try and cush her when she didi it so couldn't stay on for long.

"Drop-and-roll - You use this one to get a cat off your back! Drop all your weight to the ground and quickly roll over so you crush your opponent! Best chance you have of getting fres from their grip, but get up quick or you'll be vunerable! I just showed you it so hope ya get it!" One of the only moves that actually worked to dislodge an opponent's grip, even though the cat usually jumped away before you could squash them.

"Upright Lock - Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip them under you. This makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so it takes great strength and speed." Nightgaze had wrestled with her rival in Shadowclan when he intruded on Thunderclan territory when he had tried to attack her and her current apprentice at the time. Lucky that Bumblestar was there to help since she was pretty inexperienced then.

Huffing, she grinned at Splitpaw with sparkling green eyes. "Annnndd that's what ya need to know! Feel free to take a breather but if ya feel up to it want to learn some more advanced moves?" Now that the necessary moves had been taught, Nightgaze could teach something a little more her speed...but only if her apprentice agreed to it of course!
