He knew he had needed some training. The recent days had been causing more and more anxiety in him. One moon until 12, when his assessment should be. One moon to prove himself worthy of being a warrior and maybe he could go on to be an Enforcer if he did well enough, but that wasn’t his main concern at the moment. He had to pass his assessment and make everyone proud.

His mentor was great- he was in her debt actually, but getting training from other cats is nice too. That’s what he hoped to do, as he looked around for available warriors, perhaps some that offered him training in the past. He spotted an available warrior, hesitating before walking up to them and enabled his calm, confident energy. “Excuse me- could you perhaps help me with some training? If you’re available that is.” He said, offering a soft smile.

Flytail had been sitting down minding his own business when a eager apprentice approached him.He sighed and sat ah so the kid needed training eh..a little stealth would be good for this kid it seems like most apprentices lacked the skill nowadays.”Sure..I’ll teach ya though be prepared I’m not going easy on you” he remarked as he awaited the apprentices response.This would be fun he missed training back when him and Owlthroat were toe to toe.”Do you know anything about stealth?” he asked

He was pretty prepared for anything. It couldn’t be that difficult though, right? He’d always at least thought he was a good, calmer cat. Maybe he should be more adventurous though and fit in more. Maybe then Magpie’Paw would like him more! No- he had to focus on training! How could his mind wander back to her? Now that he considered it, he’d been thinking of her a lot lately. A lot a lot. But now wouldn’t be the time for that!

Hm—so the warrior chose stealth huh? That was a newer subject to him. “Well…my mentor has mentioned it before! I’ve practiced a bit and got used to being sneakier and quieter through hunting.” He explained, really wanting this warrior to take him seriously. Hopefully they’d be in the same den soon when SpiderPaw passes his assessment!

Flytail nodded the kid didn’t seem to annoying though him spacing off might be a problem “Alright I can work with that though your mentor should help you more..”he grumbled before continuing on “So first you need stealth not only for hunting but for sneaking around and attacks..keeps your fur flat and walk lightly you must master the element of supprise”he added

He nodded, listening to and taking in every word he said. Fur flat? He looked at his rather messy, ruffled up pelt. Geez—how did longer furred cats like Bristle’Thorn and Magpie’Paw manage? He couldn’t even with his short fur. He tried smoothing it out a bit without the warrior noticing, and stopped whenever he thought it was good enough.

He shouldn’t be too bad at this skill, right? He tried to get his footing right for him to crouch down, a bit different then how he did when hunting, but not too much. “Crouch like this?” He asked.

Flytail watched the apprentice intently watching for errors.Once Spiderpaw was crouched he went in to fix.”Well your close but didn’t I say fur flat.And move your feet wider tail straight mhm there ya go”he waited for the apprentice to fix their mistake then he would move on.Not bad for a youngun though probably not as good as when he was an apprentice though he did have more experience with the subject and his brother always being a pain in his side about competing really did play a part.He looked back up and continued speaking “Once you finish fixing your poor stance try taking light steps as if your walking on crunchy leaves you don’t want to make a sound.Ficus your weight evenly” he waited

“Ah- right…” he mumbled, trying to get his messy fur flat. It was perfect but…good enough right? He also had fixed his stance pretty quickly so that was out of the way. He waited then listened to the warriors next instructions. He lifted his paw up lightly and placed it delicately while still being quick, but this he was decent at at least. “Like this?” he questioned, looking up at the warrior.

Flytail gave Spiderpaw a critical glance but managed to keep his tone measured. “Alright, Spiderpaw, you’ve got the basic stance down, but there’s more to it than just placing your paws lightly. Stealth requires precision and smoothness throughout every step. It’s not just about being fast.”

He demonstrated with deliberate movements. “See how each step flows into the next? It’s important to maintain that consistency and silence. Try again, and focus on making your movements fluid and quiet, not just quick.”

He listened to the warrior intently. Yet again he was failing. One again. Failure failure failure. The words rang in his ears, much so against his own will. He knew o not be a failure though, or at least try not too, he would have to snap out of his stupid thoughts.

The tom looked around for something to help him. Leaves. That would help him see how quiet he would actually be. He hoped the warrior didn’t mind as he went—not far—and dragged the leaves to the spot they practiced. “Alright, yeah.” he nodded as a confirmation to the warrior before he got into the same crouch and crept up, careful with his paw placements. He had shockingly hardly made a sound, just a small rustle that could’ve been mistaken for wind.

Flytail observed Spiderpaw with a thoughtful expression as the apprentice finished his latest attempt. “Nice work,” he said, nodding in approval. “Your movements were much quieter than before. That rustle was minimal—definitely an improvement.”

He gave Spiderpaw a reassuring touch on the shoulder. “Just keep practicing and refining your technique. You’re making good progress.”

Flytail offered a nod of encouragement. “Let’s continue to build on this. You’re getting there.”
